  • Just for the Summer

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez is $3.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and I believe Jimenez’s latest release. Tropes for this one include forced proximity and some no strings attached elements.

Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it’s now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They’ll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each other’s out, and they’ll both go on to find the love of their lives. It’s a bonkers idea… and it just might work.

Emma hadn’t planned that her next assignment as a traveling nurse would be in Minnesota, but she and her best friend agree that dating Justin is too good of an opportunity to pass up, especially when they get to rent an adorable cottage on a private island on Lake Minnetonka.

It’s supposed to be a quick fling, just for the summer. But when Emma’s toxic mother shows up and Justin has to assume guardianship of his three siblings, they’re suddenly navigating a lot more than they expected–including catching real feelings for each other. What if this time Fate has actually brought the perfect pair together?

The Jade Temptress by Jeannie Lin

The Jade Temptress by Jeannie Lin is $1.99! This is an opposites attract historical romance with some mystery elements. Readers loved the setting, while others mentioned it didn’t capture their excitement as well as the first book. Readers, what are your opinions?

  • Minimum Wage Magic

Minimum Wage Magic by Rachel Aaron

Minimum Wage Magic by Rachel Aaron is 99c at Amazon! Sarah is a big fan of Aaron’s urban fantasy books and mentioned this on a previous Hide Your Wallet. Have you read this one?

The DFZ, the metropolis formerly known as Detroit, is the world’s most magical city with a population of nine million and zero public safety laws. That’s a lot of mages, cybernetically enhanced chrome heads, and mythical beasties who die, get into debt, and otherwise fail to pay their rent. When they can’t pay their bills, their stuff gets sold to the highest bidder to cover the tab.

That’s when they call me. My name is Opal Yong-ae, and I’m a Cleaner: a freelance mage with an art history degree who’s employed by the DFZ to sort through the mountains of magical junk people leave behind. It’s not a pretty job, or a safe one—there’s a reason I wear bite-proof gloves—but when you’re deep in debt in a lawless city where gods are real, dragons are traffic hazards, and buildings move around on their own, you don’t get to be picky about where your money comes from. You just have to make it work, even when the only thing of value in your latest repossessed apartment is the dead body of the mage who used to live there.

  • The Girl Who Chased the Moon

The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen

RECOMMENDED: The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen is $1.99! Allen is an auto-buy author for me. Some readers felt that this book and its characters weren’t as great as Allen’s other novels. While others say that if you’re looking for something heartfelt, cozy, and a little magical, this should hit the spot.

In her latest enchanting novel, New York Times bestselling author Sarah Addison Allen invites you to a quirky little Southern town with more magic than a full Carolina moon. Here two very different women discover how to find their place in the world—no matter how out of place they feel.

Emily Benedict came to Mullaby, North Carolina, hoping to solve at least some of the riddles surrounding her mother’s life. Such as, why did Dulcie Shelby leave her hometown so suddenly? And why did she vow never to return? But the moment Emily enters the house where her mother grew up and meets the grandfather she never knew—a reclusive, real-life gentle giant—she realizes that mysteries aren’t solved in Mullaby, they’re a way of life: Here are rooms where the wallpaper changes to suit your mood. Unexplained lights skip across the yard at midnight. And a neighbor bakes hope in the form of cakes.

Everyone in Mullaby adores Julia Winterson’s cakes—which is a good thing, because Julia can’t seem to stop baking them. She offers them to satisfy the town’s sweet tooth but also in the hope of rekindling the love she fears might be lost forever. Flour, eggs, milk, and sugar . . . Baking is the only language the proud but vulnerable Julia has to communicate what is truly in her heart. But is it enough to call back to her those she’s hurt in the past?

Can a hummingbird cake really bring back a lost love? Is there really a ghost dancing in Emily’s backyard? The answers are never what you expect. But in this town of lovable misfits, the unexpected fits right in.

Leapt on the Jimenez. I library-read this when it came out and immediately put it on my buy-when-on-sale list. Her books really work for me.

Also a Lin fan but already own this one (though it’s deep in mount TBR).

  2. Jazzlet says:

I picked up Minimum Wage Magic in a previous sale, started it then got distracted by a new book from a favourite author, and haven’t gone back to it yet. I haven’t put it in the DNF pile yet, but neither have I felt an urgent need to find out what happens when I scroll past it.

  3. Qualisign says:

I LOVE the Minimum Wage Magic series and actually purchased the entire series in both e form and as audiobooks. For me it’s a reread (in both present and past tense forms) keeper.

  4. ReadKnitSnark says:

Decluttering at the Speed of Life: Winning Your Never-Ending Battle with Stuff by Dana K. White is $1.99 on kindle. Get it! Even if you have your own shit together, it’s entertaining reading.

Have ADHD, suffer from fatigue, or are limited in what you can accomplish in a day? This book will make things better, not worse. And no, you don’t need to make a bigger mess to declutter!

(I listen to the audiobook to get myself into a decluttering mood. Works every time!)

  5. Darlynne says:

@Qualisign: Same same, along with the dragon books and basically everything Aaron has written. The MWM covers? Some of the coolest artwork I’ve ever seen.

  6. JenM says:

I recently read Just For The Summer and it was wonderful. I’ve read three of Abby Jimenez’s books and every one of them was an “A” for me.

I nabbed “Just for the Summer” and liked it a lot. Will make a great double-feature re-read with “Part of Your World.”

  10. flchen1 says:
