  • West End Earl

West End Earl by Bethany Bennett

West End Earl by Bethany Bennett is $2.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This is book two in the Misfits of Mayfair series and we talked about this one on a previous Cover Awe. That yellow is so lovely. The heroine has disguised herself as a man and the hero is her employer.

While most young ladies attend balls and hunt for husbands, Ophelia Hardwick has spent the last ten years masquerading as a man. As the land steward for the Earl of Carlyle, she’s found safety from the uncle determined to kill her and freedoms a lady could only dream of. Ophelia’s situation would be perfect—if only she wasn’t hopelessly attracted to her employer.

Calvin, Earl of Carlyle, is determined to see his sister married this season. And he’ll do it with the help of his trusted right-hand man. But when he finds out his man is a woman, and that her life is in danger, his priorities change. Their attraction is passionate, all-consuming, and if they aren’t careful, it could turn downright deadly—for both of them.

  • 10 Things That Never Happened

10 Things That Never Happened by Alexis Hall

10 Things That Never Happened by Alexis Hall is $1.99! I think this is a Hall’s latest contemporary romance and book one in the Material World series. Given the similar cover designs, I wonder if it’s tangentially related to Boyfriend Material and Husband Material. Let us know in the comments!

Fake amnesia. Real feelings? Real problems.

Sam Becker loves―or, okay, likes―his job. Sure, managing a bed and bath retailer isn’t exactly glamorous, but it’s good work and he gets on well with the band of misfits who keep the store running. He could see himself being content here for the long haul. Too bad, then, that the owner is an infuriating git.

Jonathan Forest should never have hired Sam. It was a sentimental decision, and Jonathan didn’t get where he is by following his heart. Determined to set things right, Jonathan orders Sam down to London for a difficult talk…only for a panicking Sam to trip, bump his head, and maybe accidentally imply he doesn’t remember anything?

Faking amnesia seemed like a good idea when Sam was afraid he was getting sacked, but now he has to deal with the reality of Jonathan’s guilt―as well as the unsettling fact that his surly boss might have a softer side to him. There’s an unexpected freedom in getting a second shot at a first impression…but as Sam and Jonathan grow closer, can Sam really bring himself to tell the truth, or will their future be built entirely on one impulsive lie?

  • Badger to the Bone

Badger to the Bone by Shelly Laurenston

Badger to the Bone by Shelly Laurenston is $1.99! This is book three in the Honey Badger Chronicles series and apparently there’s going to be a fourth! I was so excited for Max’s book, but I was pretty meh on her hero. How about you?

She’s the woman he’s been hired to kidnap. But ZeZé Vargas has other ideas . . . like getting them both out of this nightmare alive. Just one problem. She’s crazy. Certifiably. Because while he’s plotting their escape, the petite Asian beauty is plotting something much more deadly . . .

Max “Kill It Again” MacKilligan has no idea what one of her own is doing with all these criminal humans until she realizes that Zé has no idea who or what he is. Or exactly how much power he truly has.

But Max is more than happy to bring this handsome jaguar shifter into her world and show him everything he’s been missing out on. A move that might be the dumbest thing she’s ever done once she realizes how far her enemies will go to wipe her out. Too bad for them Zé is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her alive . . . and honey badgers are just so damn hard to kill!

  • New Adult

    New Adult by Timothy Janovsky

New Adult by by Timothy Janovsky is $1.99! I wasn’t a huge fan of this one as I felt the main character to be pretty unsympathetic but your mileage may vary! Do you have a favorite Janovsky title?

Nolan Baker longs to be “thirty, flirty and thriving” in this charmingly quirky LGBTQIA+ romance that’s one part 13 Going on 30 and one part One Last Stop.

WHY CAN’T WE SKIP TO THE GOOD PART?

Twenty-three-year-old Nolan Baker wants it all by the time he’s thirty. Too bad he’s single, barely able to cover his own expenses, and still paying his dues at a prominent NYC comedy club. When faced with his perfect sister’s wedding, Nolan takes it as a wakeup call. It’s time to quit comedy and make good on his practical dreams—most importantly, asking Drew Techler, his best friend, to be his date.

But right as Nolan is about to give it all up, he’s asked to fill a last-minute spot for a famous comedian. Score! He crushes his set, but stands Drew up, misses his sister’s big day, and disappoints his entire family. After major blowouts with everyone he loves, Nolan desperately wishes on a set of gift “magical healing crystals” to skip to the good part of life. When he wakes the next morning, it’s seven years later, he’s a successful comedian, and he has everything he always thought he wanted. Everything, that is, except his friends and family, none of whom are taking his future self’s calls.

With nowhere else to turn, Nolan sets out to find the only person he trusts to help. Except Drew is all grown up now, too. He’s hot, successful…and hates Nolan’s guts. As Nolan works to get back to his younger self—and the life he so carelessly threw away—he’ll have to prove he’s not the man everyone thinks they know in order to regain Drew’s trust, friendship, and maybe, ultimately, his heart.

While part of a series, this book stands alone.

Kindle sale 2.99 – Loser of the Year by Carrie Byrd. I snapped it up. 🙂

I also found the POV character of ‘New Adult’ a bit unsympathetic, but on the other hand, he was *very* recognizable as a tunnel-visioned archetypal new adult who’s thoroughly absorbed our cultural messaging, i.e. if you haven’t Made It by the time you’re (insert age here, but definitely under 30), you’ll never Make It and you are therefore worthless. He also put in the work, I thought, to make amends and earn some happiness.

’10 Things That Never Happened’ is indeed tangentially related to ‘Boyfriend Material’ but is a standalone. It’s also set around the Christmas season so if you wanted to nab it on sale and save it for the holidays, I recommend. 🙂

follow-up thought on ‘New Adult,’ sorry for disorganized commenting. This POV character is also a good illustration of how we are told, when young, that we should reach for our dreams … but when we do, either the crabs in the bucket try to pull us back in, or people tell us there’s an expiration date on dreaming and we are actually supposed to suck it up and do the Responsible Thing.

As someone who has pretty much always done the Responsible Thing and occasionally resents it quite a lot, I felt this character.
