  • Four Aunties and a Wedding

Four Aunties and a Wedding by Jesse Sutanto

Four Aunties and a Wedding by Jesse Q. Sutanto is $1.99! This is book two in a series, with the first book being Dial A for Aunties. I definitely think these should be read in order as book two builds upon the events of the first.

The aunties are back, fiercer than ever and ready to handle any catastrophe—even the mafia—in this delightful and hilarious sequel by Jesse Q. Sutanto, author of Dial A for Aunties.

Meddy Chan has been to countless weddings, but she never imagined how her own would turn out. Now the day has arrived, and she can’t wait to marry her college sweetheart, Nathan. Instead of having Ma and the aunts cater to her wedding, Meddy wants them to enjoy the day as guests. As a compromise, they find the perfect wedding vendors: a Chinese-Indonesian family-run company just like theirs. Meddy is hesitant at first, but she hits it off right away with the wedding photographer, Staphanie, who reminds Meddy of herself, down to the unfortunately misspelled name.

Meddy realizes that is where their similarities end, however, when she overhears Staphanie talking about taking out a target. It turns out Staphanie and her family are The Family—actual mafia, and they’re using Meddy’s wedding as a chance to take out a target. Her aunties and mother won’t let Meddy’s wedding ceremony become a murder scene—over their dead bodies—and will do whatever it takes to save her special day, even if it means taking on the mafia.

  • The Only Purple House in Town

The Only Purple House in Town by Ann Aguirre

The Only Purple House in Town by Ann Aguirre is $1.99! This is book four in the Fix-It Witches series and is the first to breakaway from the previous cover designs in the series. We mentioned this on Hide Your Wallet last summer.

Iris Collins is the messy one in her family. The “chaos bunny.” Her sisters are all wildly successful, while she can’t balance her budget for a single month. It’s no wonder she’s in debt to her roommates. When she unexpectedly inherits a house from her great aunt, her plan to turn it into a B&B fails—as most of her plans do. She winds up renting rooms like a Victorian spinster, collecting other lost souls…and not all of them are “human.”

Eli Reese grew up as the nerdy outcast in school, but he got rich designing apps. Now he’s successful by any standards. But he’s never had the same luck in finding a real community or people who understand him. Over the years, he’s never forgotten his first crush, so when he spots her at a café, he takes it as a sign. Except then he gets sucked into the Iris-verse and somehow ends up renting one of her B&B rooms. As the days pass, Eli grows enchanted by the misfit boarders staying in the house…and even more so by Iris. Could Eli have finally found a person and a place to call “home”?

  • Three Parts Dead

Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone

Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone is $1.99! This is a recommended urban fantasy and many of my friends loved it. Reviewers on Goodreads really enjoyed the badass heroine, but some felt it had “first book syndrome” with too much stuff going on to set up the plot.

A god has died, and it’s up to Tara, first-year associate in the international necromantic firm of Kelethres, Albrecht, and Ao, to bring Him back to life before His city falls apart.

Her client is Kos, recently deceased fire god of the city of Alt Coulumb. Without Him, the metropolis’s steam generators will shut down, its trains will cease running, and its four million citizens will riot.

Tara’s job: resurrect Kos before chaos sets in. Her only help: Abelard, a chain-smoking priest of the dead god, who’s having an understandable crisis of faith.

When Tara and Abelard discover that Kos was murdered, they have to make a case in Alt Coulumb’s courts—and their quest for the truth endangers their partnership, their lives, and Alt Coulumb’s slim hope of survival.

Set in a phenomenally built world in which justice is a collective force bestowed on a few, craftsmen fly on lightning bolts, and gargoyles can rule cities, Three Parts Dead introduces readers to an ethical landscape in which the line between right and wrong blurs.

  • Reputation

    Reputation by Lex Croucher

Reputation by Lex Croucher is $2.99! I feel like the publisher put a lot of marketing dollars behind this one, but I don’t know many people that read it. It’s been compared to Mean Girls in a historical setting, though I don’t know how much romance is in the plot.

The hilarious debut novel from Lex Croucher. A classic romcom with a Regency-era twist, for fans of Mean Girls and/or Jane Austen.

Abandoned by her parents, middle-class Georgiana Ellers has moved to a new town to live with her dreary aunt and uncle. At a particularly dull party, she meets the enigmatic Frances Campbell, a wealthy member of the in-crowd who lives a life Georgiana couldn’t have imagined in her wildest dreams.

Lonely and vulnerable, Georgiana falls in with Frances and her unfathomably rich, deeply improper friends. Georgiana is introduced to a new world: drunken debauchery, mysterious young men with strangely arresting hands, and the upper echelons of Regency society.

But the price of entry to high society might just be higher than Georgiana is willing to pay …

    $.99:

    $1.99:
    – In the Event of Love: A Delightful Second Chance Romance (Fern Falls Book 1) by Courtney Kae

  3. Ely says:

I can’t read the name Georgiana without instantly thinking “oh dear Georgiana, how I long to see her! Is she much grown since the spring? Is she as tall as me?” And then smirking as if that’s the funniest, most flirtatious statement ever uttered. Which then makes me want to go watch Pride & Prejudice again. But a Mean Girls/JA mashup sounds like great fun, so I’ll give REPUTATION a go!

  4. Carol S. says:

I read both of the Aunties books while stuck in an airport waiting for a rescheduled flight and found them highly amusing. Light, funny, heartwarming.

  5. Carol S. says:

Also the purple house book reminds me of Mr. Pine’s Purple House… my kids always loved that book. https://www.amazon.com/Pines-Purple-House-Leonard-Kessler/dp/1930900775

  6. Meredith says:

The Aunties books made me pretty mad… I was along for the ride during book 1, but I didn’t get far into book 2 before I was really annoyed at the author for making these successful business women (the aunties) into complete idiots.

  7. Lisa F says:

The Four Aunties series here is my fave!

  8. Avis says:

I read Reputation a few years ago and really enjoyed it! It’s a lot of fun.
