Books On Sale

Oh Hey! Witch King by Martha Wells is a KDD!

I am just having a ball with quick “HEY IT’S BOOKS” posts over here. Woo!

  • Witch King

    Witch King by Martha Wells

Witch King by Martha Wells appears to be a KDD for $2.99! Carrie reviewed this and gave it a B+ saying:

It’s also worthy of note that even though I didn’t grasp the big picture here, I still wrote “who WE are fighting” not “who the characters are fighting.” It’s one of those Freudian slips that indicates how quickly I became attached to the main character, Kai, the Witch King, a person who, when referred to as a demon, grumbles, “You idiot. I’m THE demon.”

Grab the deal before it’s gone!

    “I didn’t know you were a… demon.”
    “You idiot. I’m the demon.”
Kai’s having a long day in Martha Wells’ WITCH KING….

After being murdered, his consciousness dormant and unaware of the passing of time while confined in an elaborate water trap, Kai wakes to find a lesser mage attempting to harness Kai’s magic to his own advantage. That was never going to go well.

But why was Kai imprisoned in the first place? What has changed in the world since his assassination? And why does the Rising World Coalition appear to be growing in influence?

Kai will need to pull his allies close and draw on all his pain magic if he is to answer even the least of these questions.

He’s not going to like the answers.

    Wrong thumbnail?

  2. sweetfa says:

Wrong book entirely? It seems that there are two books with the same title – fairly sure that’s not the plot of the one by Martha Wells – but we can hope that both authors benefit from this post!

  3. HeatherT says:

The book by Martha Wells is “Witch King” (no “the”). It is on sale. “The Witch King” by H.E. Edgmon (pictured) is not.

This is a great deal and happily price-matched. Even though I’m not reading ebooks much right now, I’m glad to have this in addition to my paper copy.

Grabbed at Kobo! Not totally sold by the sample but the story has some elements I’m into right now and I liked the first Raksura book.

I randomly found Patricia C. Wrede’s The Dark Lord’s Daughter for $2 on kindle today. It wasn’t in the KDDs, so I don’t know what’s up with that. (September 2023 release)

It’s a children’s book, but then again so is Dealing with Dragons (and the rest of that series) which I read with great delight a couple of years ago, and I’ve reached get-off-my-lawn age.

  12. Susan says:

Code name charming is a kdd on December 24.

  13. Penny says:

@ReadKnitSnark ooo thank you! I didn’t realize Wrede had a new book out! Even though I’ve for the most part stopped reading YA and younger, when any of what I think of as “my” authors publishes something new I buy it, regardless of intended audience. Diane Duane, Robin McKinley, Tamora Pierce, and Patricia Wrede were major fixtures in my early life, and Diane Duane’s Young Wizards series in particular had a huge hand in shaping my worldview… (Anne McCaffrey was also there, but the less said about that the better… probably shouldn’t have been reading the Dragonriders of Pern series in 3rd grade lol)

Anyway thanks for the heads up on the new Wrede on sale!

  14. Betsydub says:

Deals: in addition to the Sarah McLean & Tessa Bailey bargains (thanks, flchen1, above!), the four-pack of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton prequels is $4.99. Yes, I said $4.99:
Because of Miss Bridgerton, The Girl With the Make-Believe Husband, The Other Miss Bridgerton & First Comes Scandal. I think these may be all of the B’ton prequels.

  15. flchen1 says:

    Ooh, thanks, @Betsydub!
