Links: Kickstarters, Bookstores, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Welcome back to Wednesday Links!

My brother is currently visiting and has been in town since Saturday. It’s been a pretty casual visit so far, but it’s great to see him. I last saw him when I visited him in Germany over two years ago and the last time he visited me in the Boston area was back in 2016 for the Fourth of July.

He lives in Korea and his one request here was to get a good slice of pizza. He said that pizza in South Korea tends to be very sweet.

Author Jackie Lau launched a Kickstarter to start a new contemporary romance series. The Kickstarter includes the production of two novellas in ebook and paperback.

Sarah: Loyalty Bookstores is my local indie, and they’re raising money for flood abatement and security for drag queen story hour. They were targeted by Proud Boneheads in Silver Spring and a slew of volunteers stood out outside to protect the families and the bookstore staff.

Emily Henry wrote an essay for TIME about what happily ever after means. Trigger warning for loss of a pet.

There’s currently a Books for Palestine auction running through November 11th. There are signed ARCs, art prints, calls with authors and publishing people to discuss whatever writing project you’re working on, and more!

M let us know that a new romance-only bookstore is opening in the Twin Cities in 2024 called Tropes and Trifles! Firstly, the logo and website design are super cute. Secondly, I’m so happy to see more romance bookstores popping up around the world. As of right now, you can keep up with them on Instagram and it seems like they’re doing pop-ups at local holiday markets.

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

For Spotify Premium users, you now get to listen to 15 hours of audiobooks a month. That’s basically a romance novel. I checked and the library is excellent. More details here:

Don’t know if there’s a paywall, but I’d never heard of Joanna Russ before I saw this article about her in the New York Times. She was a queer science fiction author, and I thought she might be of interest to people here at SBTB.

Thank you for sharing the Books for Palestine auction! A few items are already over $1,000 and there are still a few days to go. Many wonderful authors are contributing their books and/or time to support humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza.

Thanks for this reminder about Jackie Lau’s Kickstarter. In a week of weariness and woe, I was thrilled to be able to back something so fantastic!
