  • Zora Books Her Happy Ever After

Zora Books Her Happy Ever After by Taj McCoy

Zora Books Her Happy Ever After by Taj McCoy is $2.99! Shana mentioned this on Hide Your Wallet and it was released this spring. This one seems like it might have a love triangle, but I’m not sure how involved that is with the plot. Have you read it?

Zora has committed every inch of her life to establishing her thriving DC bookstore, making it into a pillar of the community, and she just hasn’t had time for romance. But when a mystery author she’s been crushing on for years agrees to have an event at her store, she starts to rethink her priorities. Lawrence is every bit as charming as she imagined, even if his understanding of his own books seems just a bit shallow. When he asks her out after his reading, she’s almost elated enough to forget about the grumpy guy who sat next to her making snide comments all evening. Apparently the grouch is Lawrence’s best friend, Reid, but she can’t imagine what kind of friendship that must be. They couldn’t be more different.

But as she starts seeing Lawrence, and spending more and more time with Reid, Zora finds first impressions can be deceiving. Reid is smart and thoughtful—he’s also interested. After years of avoiding dating, she suddenly has two handsome men competing for her affection. But even as she struggles to choose between them, she can’t shake the feeling that they’re both hiding something—a mystery she’s determined to solve before she can find her HEA.

  • The Candid Life of Meena Dave

The Candid Life of Meena Dave by Namrata Patel

The Candid Life of Meena Dave by Namrata Patel is $2.49! This was mentioned on the site before. I believe this one skews more toward women’s fiction or fiction with strong romantic elements. Have you read this one?

A woman embarks on an unexpected journey into her past in an engrossing novel about identity, family secrets, and rediscovering the need to belong.

Meena Dave is a photojournalist and a nomad. She has no family, no permanent address, and no long-term attachments, preferring to observe the world at a distance through the lens of her camera. But Meena’s solitary life is turned upside down when she unexpectedly inherits an apartment in a Victorian brownstone in historic Back Bay, Boston.

Though Meena’s impulse is to sell it and keep moving, she decides to use her journalistic instinct to follow the story that landed her in the home of a stranger. It’s a mystery that comes with a series of hidden clues, a trio of meddling Indian aunties, and a handsome next-door neighbor. For Meena it’s a chance for newfound friendships, community, and culture she never thought possible. And a window into her past she never expected.

Now as everything unknown to Meena comes into focus, she must reconcile who she wants to be with who she really is.

  • Portrait of a Scotsman

Portrait of a Scotsman by Evie Dunmore

Portrait of a Scotsman by Evie Dunmore is $1.99! This is book three in The League of Extraordinary Women series. It looks like a fourth book is coming out in December.

London banking heiress Hattie Greenfield wanted “just” three things in life:

    1. Acclaim as an artist.
    2. A noble cause.
    3. Marriage to a young lord who puts the gentle in gentleman.

Why then does this Oxford scholar find herself at the altar with the darkly attractive financier Lucian Blackstone, whose murky past and ruthless business practices strike fear in the hearts of Britain’s peerage? Trust Hattie to take an invigorating little adventure too far. Now she’s stuck with a churlish Scot who just might be the end of her ambitions….

When the daughter of his business rival all but falls into his lap, Lucian sees opportunity. As a self-made man, he has vast wealth but holds little power, and Hattie might be the key to finally setting long-harbored political plans in motion. Driven by an old revenge, he has no room for his new wife’s apprehensions or romantic notions, bewitching as he finds her.

But a sudden journey to Scotland paints everything in a different light. Hattie slowly sees the real Lucian and realizes she could win everything—as long as she is prepared to lose her heart.

Going toe-to-toe with a brooding Scotsman is rather bold for a respectable suffragist, but when he happens to be one’s unexpected husband, what else is an unwilling bride to do?

  • To Steal a Heart

To Steal a Heart by K.C. Bateman

To Steal a Heart by K.C. Bateman is FRR! This is the first in the Secrets & Spies series by Bateman (who also writes historical romances under Kate Bateman). It looks like a lot of fun!

A master spy and a beautiful thief find love and intrigue in each other’s arms. . .

Forced to do the bidding of a corrupt government minister, Marianne de Bonnard agrees to plant incriminating evidence in the offices of France’s most notorious spymaster. Under cover of night, the tightrope-walking thief puts her skills to good use—until her aerial stunt is foiled when her target appears in the window and, with consummate poise, helps Marianne off the wire and into his lair. The tremors that run through her body are not just from fear; there’s an unwanted frisson of desire there, too. But is it because of her elegant, wickedly handsome host . . . or his proposition?

Nicolas Valette has had plans for his graceful trespasser since he witnessed her unique skills at the Cirque Olympique. Sinuous as a cat, Marianne is perfect for his next mission, but she refuses his generous offer for fear of disobeying her family’s tormenter. When their mutual enemy auctions off her virginity to the highest bidder, Nicolas leaps at the chance to purchase her cooperation. Keeping her will be like trying to tame a wild animal, but what’s life without a little risk? Besides, Nicolas and Marianne both want the same thing: revenge—and, perhaps, something else that’s equally delicious.

  1. JoanneBB says:

The Candid Life of Meena Dave is great. Fiction with romantic elements, the mc grows and develops, and it kept my attention. There’s a fair bit of angst and long-held secrets, but it’s handled well.

  2. Karen D says:

The Taj McCoy is adorable. I really enjoyed it.

  3. FashionablyEvil says:

The bones of PORTRAIT OF A SCOTSMAN are okay, but I felt like Dunmore shaped the story around the historical elements she wanted to discuss (Victorian art, social norms, labor rights, the suffrage movement) and the plot suffers for it as a result. And god, the heroine, Hattie, is an utter twit.

  4. Susan/DC says:

I live in DC and help run a UBS in my local library, so ZORA BOOKS HER HAPPILY EVER AFTER should be my catnip. But the blurb appears to give away a main plot point without having to read the actual book, so I’m not sure I’ll succumb to the initial temptation (although I may see if the library has it so I check to see if my guess is correct).

  5. MaryK says:

I was interested in ZORA BOOKS but when I read spoilers it seems this is another where the wrong person has to grovel.

  6. MaryK says:

@Susan/DC – I noticed that about the blurb and was wondering if it’s something the reader is supposed to be in on or not.

  7. flchen1 says:

    $1.99:
    – The Wedding Crasher by Mia Sosa

    $.99:
    – Finish Line by PJ Fiala
    – Star of the Game (Stick Side Book 6) by Amy Aislin

    Free:
    – Flare (Style Series Book 1) by Jay Hogan
    – Fumbled Love: A Best Friend’s Older Brother Sports Romance (The Atlanta Arrows Book 1) by S. Jones
    – To Steal a Heart by Kate Bateman

  8. Star says:

@MaryK I wish there were more active discussions about books where the wrong person grovels or a disproportionate level of groveling is demanded. (It’s a particular disappointment to me that this often seems to happen in strongly feminist coded books.)

  9. Susan/Dc says:

Update: Put ZORA on hold at the library. When it comes in I’ll see if I’m correct about the spoiler in the blurb and, if I am correct, if it literally spoils the book for me. Theoretically it will since it’s so obvious and a bit trite, but as with everything it’s all in the execution so I’m trying to keep an open mind.
