The Bromance Book Club
The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance and the first in a series. Aarya gave this one a C+ and would recommend it with reservations:
The writing is polished, the grovel is so satisfying (I love desperate heroes at their wits’ end), and Thea has my permission to rule the world for eternity. Adams’s voice is magnetic; my eyes were glued on the page because the dialogue flowed seamlessly. Time stood still, and I was shocked to discover that four hours had whirled past after setting it down.
The first rule of book club:
You don’t talk about book club.Nashville Legends second baseman Gavin Scott’s marriage is in major league trouble. He’s recently discovered a humiliating secret: his wife Thea has always faked the Big O. When he loses his cool at the revelation, it’s the final straw on their already strained relationship. Thea asks for a divorce, and Gavin realizes he’s let his pride and fear get the better of him.
Welcome to the Bromance Book Club.
Distraught and desperate, Gavin finds help from an unlikely source: a secret romance book club made up of Nashville’s top alpha men. With the help of their current read, a steamy Regency titled Courting the Countess, the guys coach Gavin on saving his marriage. But it’ll take a lot more than flowery words and grand gestures for this hapless Romeo to find his inner hero and win back the trust of his wife.

Beauty and the Clockwork Beast
Beauty and the Clockwork Beast by Nancy Campbell Allen is $1.99! This is the first book in the Steampunk Proper Romance series and, as the name suggests, it has Beauty and the Beast vibes. Some readers felt there were 10 pounds of extra stuff shoved into a 5 pound book. However, there’s one review on Goodreads where the reader admits sitting in her car in a parking lot just so she can finish the book.
When Lucy Pickett arrives at Blackwell Manor to tend to her ailing cousin, Kate, she finds more than she bargained for. A restless ghost roams the hallways, werewolves have been reported in the area, and vampires lurk across the Scottish border.
Lord Miles himself is clearly hiding a secret. He is brash and inhospitable and does not take kindly to visitors—even one as smart and attractive as Miss Pickett. He is unsettled by the mysterious deaths of his new wife, Clara, and his sister, Marie. Could Miles himself be to blame for the deaths?
Working together, Miles and Lucy attempt to restore peace to Blackwell Manor. But can Lucy solve the mystery of Miles? Can she love the man—beast and all?

Fix Her Up
Fix Her Up by Tessa Bailey is $2.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! I’m a huge Bailey fan, but this one didn’t do it for me, mainly because it had some tropes that aren’t my bag. If you enjoyed this one, feel free to leave a comment below!
New York Times bestseller Tessa Bailey launches a super sexy new series featuring the blue collar men who work for a HGTV-esque house flipping business.
After an injury ends Travis Ford’s major league baseball career, he returns home to start over. He just wants to hammer out his frustrations at his new construction gig and forget all about his glory days. But he can’t even walk through town without someone recapping his greatest hits. Or making a joke about his… bat. And then there’s Georgie, his buddy’s little sister, who is definitely not a kid anymore.
Georgette Castle has crushed on her older brother’s best friend for years. The grumpy, bear of a man working for her family’s house flipping business is a far cry from the charming sports star she used to know. But a moody scowl doesn’t scare her and Georgie’s determined to show Travis he’s more than a pretty face and a batting average, even if it means putting her feelings aside to be “just friends.”
Travis wants to brood in peace. But the girl he used to tease is now a funny, full-of-life woman who makes him feel whole again. And he wants her. So damn bad. Except Georgie’s off limits and he knows he can’t give her what she deserves. But she’s becoming the air he breathes and Travis can’t stay away, no matter how hard he tries…

Red Widow
Red Widow by Alma Katsu is $2.99! I believe I mentioned this spy thriller on a previous edition of Get Rec’d. I’m mostly familiar with Katsu’s horror novels, which I’ve really enjoyed.
An exhilarating spy thriller about two women CIA agents who become intertwined around a threat to the Russia Division–one that’s coming from inside the agency.
Lyndsey Duncan worries her career with the CIA might be over. After lines are crossed with another intelligence agent during her most recent assignment, she is sent home to Washington on administrative leave. So when a former colleague, now Chief of the Russia Division, recruits her for an internal investigation, she jumps at the chance to prove herself once more. Lyndsey was once a top handler in the Moscow Field Station, known as the “human lie detector” and praised for recruiting some of the most senior Russian officials. But now, three Russian assets have been discovered–including one of her own–and the CIA is convinced there’s a mole in the department. With years of work in question, and lives on the line, Lyndsey is thrown back into life at the agency, only this time tracing the steps of those closest to her.
Meanwhile, fellow agent Theresa Warner can’t avoid the spotlight. She is the infamous “Red Widow,” the wife of a former director killed in the field under mysterious circumstances. With her husband’s legacy shadowing her every move, Theresa is a fixture of the Russia Division, and as she and Lyndsey strike up an unusual friendship, her knowledge proves invaluable. But as Lyndsey uncovers a surprising connection to Theresa that could answer all of her questions, she exposes a terrifying web of secrets within the department, if only she is willing to unravel it…

My Cone & Only by Susannah Nix is free on Kindle on Amazon UK.
I loved Bromance Bookclub and have been talking about it to others. I don’t remember a deep burn, but the other guys talking in he club is funny and I agree – great grovel! I didn’t buy it but I did rcommend it to library friends. And it is first of a series.
The nickname in the first Fix Her Up really ruined it for me but I recommend the third book in that Bailey series!
(FYI if you’re a big baseball fan, the baseball in The Bromance Book Club and Fix Her Up may bother you. It took away some of my enjoyment of the books.)
Ooh, I’ve had Red Widow on my list ever since you mentioned in a Get Rec’d! Really excited for this one, as after reading Killers of a Certain Age I could go for more kick-ass female spies and/or assassins.
I enjoyed Beauty and the Clockwork Beast.
I remember really liking Fix Her Up, I feel like most who like Bailey and its premise/tropes would like it. However, I never got into the next one in the series, and this reminds me it is sitting on my Kindle half-read.
I liked BEAUTY AND THE CLOCKWORK BEAST more than I was expecting to! Would definitely recommend it if you like the genre/premise.
I want to read Beauty and the Clockwork Beast, so Yoink!
Beauty and the Clockwork Beast by Nancy Campbell Allen and the other 3 books in the series are $1.99, too.
