  • Wait for It

Wait for It by Mariana Zapata

    Update: Deal no longer available.

Wait for It by Mariana Zapata is $1.99 at Amazon! Zapata is an autobuy author for many of you and the book has a 4.2-star rating on Goodreads. Though the heroine has ties to a character in one of Zapata’s previous books, it can be read as a standalone. For any Zapata fans out there, how did this book rate compared to her other romances?

If anyone ever said being an adult was easy, they hadn’t been one long enough.

Diana Casillas can admit it: she doesn’t know what the hell she’s doing half the time. How she’s made it through the last two years of her life without killing anyone is nothing short of a miracle. Being a grown-up wasn’t supposed to be so hard.

With a new house, two little boys she inherited the most painful possible way, a giant dog, a job she usually loves, more than enough family, and friends, she has almost everything she could ever ask for.

    Except for a boyfriend.

    Or a husband.

But who needs either one of those?

  • The Revenge of Lord Eberlin

The Revenge of Lord Eberlin by Julia London

The Revenge of Lord Eberlin by Julia London is 99c! This is an enemies to lovers historical romance. Readers loved the hero out for revenge, but found some of the action fell a bit flat. This is the second book in The Secrets of Hadley Green series and the first book is on sale for $1.99.

Tobin Scott, otherwise known as Count Eberlin of Denmark, has returned to Hadley Green, the site of his father’s hanging for thievery fifteen years ago. He has but one goal in mind, and that is to avenge his father, who he believes was innocent of stealing the Countess of Ashwood jewels. Now a wealthy man, Tobin intends to exact his revenge by destroying the Ashwood estate and the Countess of Ashwood, who as a young girl testified against his father.

Lily Boudine has become the Countess of Ashwood through a very surprising twist of fate. She is even more surprised when a vaguely familiar looking man calls and tells her he is Tobin Scott, whom she knew as a boy, and that he intends to destroy her or Ashwood. He leaves the choice to her. Because so many people depend on Ashwood, Lily chooses herself, thinking that she can hold him at bay long enough to remove Ashwood from his clutches. But as they play the game of seduction, and she slowly discovers that he is not the cold, heartless man he would like to present to her, she also believes that Tobin is right—his father did not steal the jewels. And if she can find them, she can help restore his family’s honor—but not before she discovers another shocking secret.

  • Once Upon a Rose

Once Upon a Rose by Laura Florand

Once Upon a Rose by Laura Florand is 99c on Amazon and FREE elsewhere! For a chance, Amazon is the more expensive option. This is the first book in the La Vie en Roses contemporary romance series and is set in France. Some readers thought this was all sorts of adorable and squee-worthy. But some found it was a bit too cutesy for their liking. Have you read this one?

    She stole his roses.

Fleeing the spotlight, burnt out rock star Layla—“Belle”—Dubois seeks refuge in the south of France. That old, half-forgotten heritage in a valley of roses seems like a good place to soothe a wounded heart. She certainly doesn’t expect the most dangerous threat to her heart to pounce on her as soon as she sets foot on the land.

    He wants them back.

Matt didn’t mean to growl at her quite that loudly. But—his roses! She can’t have his roses. Even if she does have all those curls and green eyes and, and, and…what was he growling about again?

Or maybe he just wants her.

When an enemy invades his valley and threatens his home, heart, and livelihood, Matthieu Rosier really knows only one way to defend himself.

    It might involve kissing.

And that might be just the start.

  • My Lady of Deception

My Lady of Deception by Christi Caldwell

My Lady of Deception by Christi Caldwell is 99c! This is the first book in The Brethren of Lords series and features a heroine hiding her identity. Readers are divided on the angst level in the romance. Some loved it and felt it added a dark element to the romance, while others felt there was too much angst for them.

Everybody has a secret. Some are more dangerous than others

For Georgina Wilcox, only child of the notorious traitor known as “The Fox”, there are too many secrets to count. However, after her interference results in great tragedy, she resolves to never help another… until she meets Adam Markham.

Lord Adam Markham is captured by The Fox. Imprisoned, Adam loses everything he holds dear. As his days in captivity grow, he finds himself fascinated by the young maid, Georgina, who cares for him. I received an email from Amazon Kindle a few days ago (I’m assuming lots of us got it) that they’re discounting (starting at 99-cents) a lot of romance books through November 30. I took a quick look—most of the ones I saw were in the $1.99 to $2.99 range; many were the first or second book of a multi-book series. Might be worth checking out though. Here’s the link:

  2. Sabre says:

    I LOVE Laura Florand. ((sigh))
I wrote a blog post about how she is a master of sexual tension.

  3. Amy S. says:

Wait for It by Mariana Zapata was 2nd favorite of hers to Kulti. And the characters from Kulti make an appearance in it as well. The only book I haven’t read yet is Under Locke

  4. Erica H says:

Once upon a Rose was my favorite read of 2015, and it came out in January, so it had a lot of competition. I think I read it at least 6 times that year, and has become a comfort read!

  5. Deborah says:

I love a revenge plot like nobody’s business, but — based on the excerpt on the Amazon page — the inheritance of titles in The Revenge of Lord Eberlin strains all historical credulity. The hero purchased his title from some Danish count in straitened circumstances and bribed the Danish court to acknowledge it. Oooookay. I was willing to suspend my disbelief for this maneuver until the hero congratulates himself: “He was now a count in an English society that was rather sensitive to titles and entitlements. He’d accomplished the impossible—he’d become one of them.” Dude, a society that is sensitive to titles is going to recognize your shady deal for what it is. No, you are NOT “one of them.”

And then we learn that the heroine, the Countess of Ashwood, is not the widow of an earl but the late earl’s “closest kin.” Reviews indicate that she was his adopted daughter, the niece of his wife.

Romance needs a new subgenre: the ahistorical.

Wait for It is wonderful. It can definitely be read as a standalone, though it includes cameos from Under Locke, Kulti, and The Wall of Winnipeg and Me. (I think Wait for It answers a trivial question raised in Under Locke. I wonder if readers had been nagging Zapata for the answer.)

  6. Nikki P says:

Oooh Wall of Winnepeg and Me is a one of my all time favorites so I’ll have to check Wait For It out.

  7. SQ says:

I love Wait for it (I just re-read it!). Wall of Winnepeg/Kulti are my favorite Zapata reads, but Wait for it is also excellent.

  8. Lizzy says:

Wait for It was good, but I kind of binged Zapata and got a little tired of closed off dudes who can’t communicate until the last quarter of the book when suddenly they’re totally in love.

I think I’ll pass on the ahistorical novel, I’m plenty willing to make concession for historical romance because it’s more or less fantasy but there’s definitely a point where it pulls you out of the story. Plus exacting revenge on somebody for something they did as a child is childish. Enemies to lovers is great when it works but “I hate you for a situation I don’t fully understand and don’t bother to learn the truth about” makes my eye twitch.

  9. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

I need that Rose book, but am willing to pay the $0.99. The Kindle app is just better. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  10. Marlene in PDX says:

I was just checking out some of the books mentioned on the “Ghost Stories” podcast (Episode 270) and found that the e-book of Jennifer St. Giles’ “Midnight Secrets” was available on Amazon for free. Zapped that one right into my Kindle app!

  11. MsCellanie says:

    @Deborah
“ahistorical” is a funny thing. On the one hand, I’ve DNF’d Regencies where the heroine showed up to a ball unchaperoned, people refer to each other with the wrong titles, or (most recently) there’s a dinner party of people who we’re told are obsessed with rank, where everyone just wandered in to dinner with no particular order, they’re all talking across the table, and one of the people started treating the footman like a waiter. OTOH, Tessa Dare basically stuck Comic-Con into one of her novels and it was hilariously awesome.

Thanks for the warning on this one – that would drive me nuts.

  12. Adrienne says:

I love Laura Florand so much. I mainlined her Amour et Chocolat series while I was pregnant earlier this year. In slowly working my way through this series but it’s much harder to find – I had to get Once upon a rose from interstate library loan. So far I’m not liking this series as much as the chocolate series but that may be because I’ve overdosed on her books for now?

  13. Theresa says:

I loved Wait for It. I read it on kindle unlimited but held off buying for a sale. Glad I waited!

  14. Hazel says:

I’m halfway through Wait For It now. There are bits that I simply don’t get, and I imagine I’m missing many cultural references, being both middle-aged and British, but I just keep smiling.

It’s £3.94 at Amazon UK. But it’s very funny.
