Shana Tova!

I’ve done this graphic before but some jokes, they never get old. Have a peaceful and sweet new year, folks.

    Love it!

Forgot that it was the new year on this calendar.  Perfect timing in that I lost my sweet, wonderful, youthful, healthy father suddenly two weeks ago.

Happy New Year to all!  May you love each other well.

  5. Best. Rosh Hashanna card. Ever.

May you and yours be written in the Book of Life for a healthy, happy and prosperous new year!

    L’shana Tova Tikatevi v’Tekhatemi!

    ??? ???? ??????, ???

  10. Brooks*belle says:

Thanks SB Sarah—caught them all! =)

  11. tralalah says:

I agree with the print version.  I would totally send cards if they were like this!

  12. Robin says:

Shanah tovah everyone!  This is the centerpiece for the table tonight.  This really would make the best Rosh Hashanah card EVER!

  13. Robin L says:

Ok, so it totally thinks I am someone else.  Hi other Robin!

  14. tralalah says:

Hey Bitchery I’ve got a question for you.  The company I work for is doing a It’s Not Too Early for Christmas Is It? promotion tomorrow.  When I pointed out that was the first day of Rosh Hashanah and that a more tagline friendly 90 Days to Christmas was later in the month it was met with a resounding that doesn’t matter.  I’m not a Super Jew by any means but I thought this was a little rude.  Am I being too sensitive?

  15. Melina says:

    That is awesome!

Shana Tovah to you and your family!

  16. J says:

Happy New Year to One and All…
L’shana Tova Tikatevu – may you be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life.

  17. @tralalah—They aren’t marketing to Jews—but I agree, it’s not good timing! =]

Love the graphic. Happy Healthy New Year to all!

  18. orangehands says:

    L’shanah tovah!

Brooks*belle: I’m so sorry. ((HUGS)) if you want them.

tralalah: They do realize we haven’t had Halloween right? *rolls eyes* For me, it’s rude* (they really can’t wait an extra day or two?) but not a surprise by any means.

*If they didn’t realize it was a different holiday, than that is one thing, but since you pointed it out, yep, rude.

  19. orangehands says:

Oh yes, meant to say, love the graphic.

  20. orangehands says:

    then not than

And I haven’t even had the wine yet.

Sorry to be dim, but what the hell is that?!!!! I really, honestly, have no idea. What’s the connection with Twilight? Completely missing the joke, here. Wishing I were Jewish. Happy New Year!

Today is New Year’s Day (Rosh Hashana), on the Hebrew calender.  The universe was created 5771 years ago on this day. According to Genesis, the evening and the morning were the first day, so all Jewish holidays start at twilight.  So it’s a bit of word play, linking the holiday to the book.  The kicker is wishing us a “sparkly” year, since according to the book, vampires have to stay out of the sun because they, yes, sparkle in sunlight.

The image is a shofar, a musical instrument made from a ram’s horn.  We blow it every day between New Year’s and Yom Kippur to tell us to wake up and pay attention to the High Holy Days.

  23. Vixenbib says:

Literary Slut Kilian, I thank you for enlightening me. I’m now feeling a bit ashamed about my ignorance of things Jewish.

So. You all get the horn at twilight.

  24. Literary Slut Kilian says:

    @ vixenbib

No need to feel bad.  It *is* an inside joke after all.  If I hadn’t read Twilight (hated it), I wouldn’t have known what the joke was either.

  25. Pamela Sinclair says:

shan tova! .. btw this looks like a penis cover? lol sorry that just what i thought when i first saw it.

  26. Jordan says:

Happy new year my Hebrew friends (Rosh Hashanna) the Twilight are captivating and did somebody say that Fiery Tale Series is amazing? I beg to agree I read it now and again and it will not bore me anytime soon. Shana Tova we need more when you are through with Rosh Hashanna.
