What the Librarian Won: The Entries!

Little did I know that when I posted a contest celebrating Jennifer Lohmann’s win as Librarian of the Year from RWA, I’d set off a Photoshopping mania among librarians. Behold the entries for our contest. Jennifer and I will be picking the winner, but we are not above being swayed by your comments – so let us know which one you like the best! The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to the bookstore of her choice AND will direct a $50 contribution to the library or Friends of the Library organization of her choice, plus a big ol’ box of assorted romance novels from Jennifer from the RWA National conference in Nashville. Books and book money and cold hard charitable donation cash are on the line.

So which book rocks your stacks?

Love the title and byline for Long Overdue (Can he renew their love??)

    The goat = hilarious

The Mermaid under water hair blowing in all directions with the horse = riotous giggles

Stacks of Love = Dewey Decimal geekery of awesome

Once Upon a Bite = great photoshopping!

Then of course there’s my cover which I love, though the source material gets most of the credit. šŸ™‚

  2. willaful says:

I’m going with Long Overdue, despite the sad loss of heads, because it looked so totally plausible.

  3. ghn says:

The two last ones were just … over the top. That satyr, and the HAIR on the last one (with a fan each head of hair cranked up to hurricane strength!)
But the dewey joke on stacks of Love was also great. Also the reference to the Librarian’s favorite book on _Lust in the Dust (jackets!)_ šŸ™‚
But for an absurd-cover contest, the Hair cover wins. By a hair.

  4. Courtney says:

I really like the Long Overdue one. Looks like something I’d totally buy.

The last one is also awesome though!:-)

  5. Snacks says:

Who doesn’t love goat porn?  Perverted and unexpected.  My favorite!

  6. El says:

The hair in the last one did it for me, too. Awesome!

  7. Clarissa Yip says:

Love this post!  It’s so funny.

  8. Anne says:

I speak as a public librarian.  Oh do I know how love blossoms in those stacks.  So many of my coworkers have married each other.  Librarians in Love is a beautiful thing.

Although I grieve the fuzziness, the title and description of this one won my heart:  Caught in the Stacks – She’s got some dusting that’s long overdue.

Not only is the double-entendre amusing, but dust is a very important part of a public librarian’s life.  In my library we refer to dust as the “particulate to oxygen ratio.”  It’s a major red flag that a particular book may have become overdue for weeding.

And yet the long waving hair on Secret Affair in the Stacks… it draws me.  How glorious.  How un-librarian.  Oh how those of us rockin’ a bun or bowl cut would die for such wondrous hair.

  9. Pam Noonan says:

BWAH!! Got to be the last one- I was all about the goat-man until I saw the last one – the hair has got to win!!

  10. Maureen says:

The last one gets my vote.  It is too funny.

  11. Betty K says:

OMG! All of the entries were wonderful but I laughed out loud at the goat! Most creative, brilliant! Goat man definitely gets my vote!

  12. Lindsay says:

    LOVE the goat!!!

  13. Phyllis says:

The one that actually made me laugh out loud? The last one. His n’ hers long, flowing hair blowing in opposite directions made me giggle and then I saw the galloping horse…

  14. Stephanie says:

All these entries are great. I did the green “Long Overdue” one, and it’s fun to see everyone else’s take on the idea.

But the reason I’m commenting is to let everyone know they can have some romance novel fun with this generator: http://www.glassgiant.com/romance/

    Have fun!

  15. Lyssa says:

Long overdue…so perfect in all ways! Punnage, and librarian humor.

  16. Saam says:

The goat one made me snort & I’m wiping the tears away from the awfulness of the last one with the hurricane cover. Goat WINS!

  17. LiJuun says:

I giggled at all of them, but Secret Affair in the Stacks has a horse-farting heroine AND hair blowing in different directions!  It has to be the winner.

  18. SusannaG says:

For me, it’s vintage all the way!  Particularly as I heard “Their love was overdue … and the fine was passion!” in Movie Announcer Voice in my head.

  19. Kristin says:

OMG, the goat man cover almost made me spew coffee all over my keyboard.  It was brilliantly funny.

  20. quichepup says:

I have to vote for The Tattooed Man’s Lusty Librarian. The title is made of win but the tagline-library science is not for wussies—sealed the deal.

I loved the Goat Man cover, reminded me of the time 2 goats got loose and were running around my branch’s parking lot. Two staff members went out to “save” the goats and the rest of us went to watch. Final score was goats 1, people 0.

  21. Dan says:

Goat man.  And the librarian’s going huntin’  I can’t shake the image.  Yeah baby, it’s mountin’ time!

  22. Shannon says:

i have to have the last 2 – the Half Human, Half Goat, All Man and the windblown hair with random horse

  23. MamaNice says:

Some of these are really quite well done! I love the Dewey joke, but I burst out laughing at the last one. Not only can the passion they spark cause wind to simultaneously blow in two directions…but they have the requisite horse galloping out of someone’s ass to boot.
    BWAHAHAHAHA!

    Great job, that was entertaining!

  24. anna_chronistic says:

Tie between “Stacks of Love” and “Secret Affair in the Stacks.” The first because I LOLed at the “Science of LOVE” tag, and the second because that is a whole boatload of awesome—the hair blowing in the wind (and each is catching a breeze from a different direction, natch), the random horse on the cover—genius!

  25. Chicklet says:

The Secret in the Stacks (the last one), just because the artist captured the special Romance Meteorology that results in wind blowing in two directions at the same time.

  26. Heather says:

The Secret in the Stacks or Long Overdue. Both have really catchy phrases and the covers are just over-done enough to look like something I’d see on the shelf.

  27. janicu says:

Oh my.. I’m loving the last one! Although the one second to last is also very funny (He’s the ram she always wanted! HAH!)

  28. AllyJS says:

    Amazing!

I love the first one the best. Oh the memories it brings back…

  29. Beth says:

Those we are awesome, but I definitely think Long Overdue deserves the win.

  30. Beth says:

er,  I meant to say those were all awesome. oops šŸ™‚

  31. cherri miller says:

You gotta go with goat guy!!!  Creative and I would pull it off the shelf!
