I enjoyed this story a lot. It contains many of the elements that feel like a traditional Western to me – scenes of blizzards and horse-breaking, confrontations in the local saloon, slick shysters from out East come to take advantage of the locals – but the central characters buck the stereotypes in numerous ways.

Readers loved the enemies to lovers, but within the first few pages, there is a magical g*psy character. Not sure if this has been changed since its release.

I was drawn to ‘How to End a Love Story’ by the writer / TV producer / series production writing room details because I’m always searching for the next great Hollywood romance. Alas, this wasn’t it, for me at least. I thought the FMC was an asshole almost all the way through the book, treating the MMC abominably for no reason except that she didn’t get the therapy she needed after the tragic event in prologue. He *did* get therapy, but is still deeply traumatized by his unintentional part in the event. FMC’s lack of respect for that is never satisfactorily resolved. Well written with good sex scenes, but the love story doesn’t land. It should, in fact, have ended so this book didn’t get sold as a romance.
Counterpoint: I loved How to End a Love Story. One of my favourites of 2024. A really difficult set-up for the protagonists to deal with and it really earns the HEA. Deeply emotional and deeply sexy, if you like Emily Henry you will enjoy this.

Wild Rain is such a great book! The entire series is fantastic but I loved the pairing of Spring and Garrett. She is prickly, he is a cinnamon roll, and they’re both hypercompetent. I want this whole darn series to become a TV show a la Bridgerton.
Now if only Tangling with Trolls would come out on Kobo!
I’ll second the recommendation for How to End a Love Story. I loved it! The depiction of mental health with the main characters and how they dealt with it was so realistic. I also loved the Chinese parents and how the family dealt with their grief. Finally, the scenes in the writer’s room were fascinating. I felt like I was right there. It really gave me some insight on how the process worked. Up there in my top 10 for this year.
Doing a quick scan through TANGLING WITH TROLLS and I saw a graphic that read “This book was written by a human”, and had a bit of a giggle that the author felt the need to highlight that the troll didn’t write it.
But on actually reading it, it appears to be part of an effort to highlight creative content that’s not AI generated. I hate that authors have to do that now, but am all in favor of putting that kind of notification front and center.
