Links: Ursula K. Le Guin, Fundraising, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Welcome back to Wednesday Links!

Two out of my three June weddings to attend are complete! Only one more to go next week and I am thankful to have a casual weekend in between. ‘Tis the season!

Did any of my fellow cozy gamers catch the latest Wholesome Direct? I was traveling and haven’t gotten around to watching it, but if you did, I want to know if you saw anything worth wishlisting!

REMINDER: Tara is moderating a virtual panel on queer romance TODAY Wednesday, June 12 at 6:30pm eastern. Tara will be joined by authors Alyssa Cole, Dominic Lim, Cat Sebastian and Rebekah Weatherspoon.

According to an announcement on social media, the Le Guin family has donated their family home to Literary Arts to turn into a writers residency. Isn’t that wonderful?!

Romance scholar Jodi McAlister wrote in People about her reality TV romances and why The Bachelor is so popular. Have you read her books yet?

Thank you to everyone who shared this link with us via email and in the comments last week. We wanted to make sure no one missed it! There’s currently a GoFundMe to open a romance bookstore in Portland, Oregon.

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

I’m signed up for Tara’s Romancing the Rainbow panel and I’m SO EXCITED about it. I’m in the central time zone so I arranged to work from home today so I’m not risking having to watch it from my phone during my commute home.

And how cool would it be to have a writing residency in Ursula K LeGuin’s house?!

  2. DeborahT says:

I’m disappointed I missed the panel – I’m sure it was fantastic.

I hope you enjoy your casual weekend, Amanda. That’s a lot of weddings in a short time. I think I’d be pretty overwhelmed and hiding under my comforter with my Kindle app.

I tried the first Bachelor-like novel of Jodi McAlister’s and it was a DNF after the first few chapters. I just didn’t really connect with the characters and the situation that threw them together didn’t make much sense to me, even in the context of the setting. And I’m a long-time Bachelor watcher (I watch for the girlmances and the locations!). The others in the series look like they might be worth a shot, though, so I might give the author another go.

The panel was SO good! Tara rocked it and the authors were all amazing. If you haven’t attended a virtual author panel before, I highly recommend it. They answered not one but TWO of my questions and it was so cool to hear their thoughts on writing, publishing, and I’m looking forward to the list of recs that the library staff collected and will be sending out to us via email.

@HeatherS – right!? It was really amazing. One of the better online events I’ve attended. Tara did a great job keeping the conversation flowing and the authors were so engaging and interesting. And I loved how enthusiastic the chat was. So much fun!

Not from the Wholesome Direct, but definitely a cozy game – I’ve been following Tiny Glade on twitter for a while and the demo is out now. They describe it as ‘doodling castles’ and that’s pretty accurate from the time I spent messing around in the demo.

  6. Cosmogyral says:

The games that most excite me from this year’s Wholesome Direct are the shop sims Tiny Bookshop (selling books by the sea) and Wax Heads (record albums), art exploration games Ete and The Star Called Eos, and management puzzle game Minami Lane!
