The Single Dads Club
Single Dads Club by Therese Beharrie is $1.99 from Amazon! Aarya mentioned this one in Hide Your Wallet over the summer. She’s enjoyed Beharrie’s romances previously and thought this one sounded pretty cute.

The Counterfeit Scoundrel
The Counterfeit Scoundrel by Lorraine Heath is $1.99! This is book one in The Chessmen: Masters of Seduction historical romance series, which makes me laugh. I keep thinking of the chessmen butter cookies.
New York Times bestselling author Lorraine Heath begins a compelling new spin-off series, The Chessmen: Masters of Seduction, centering around three heroes–Knight, Bishop, and Rook–who play to win at any cost.
Born into an aristocratic family, yearning for a life beyond Society’s strictures, Marguerite “Daisy” Townsend is an enterprising sleuth. Hired to obtain proof of a wife’s infidelity, she secures a position in the household of the woman’s lover, never expecting to be lured into the seductive blackguard’s arms herself.
Devilishly handsome, David Blackwood, known widely as Bishop, quickly realizes the enticing maid is interested in far more than dusting. She aims to uncover his sins. Although tempted by the dangerous beauty, he can’t risk her learning the truth: his affairs are chaste. As a boy who witnessed his mother’s abusive relationship, Bishop now helps desperate wives escape unhappy marriages.
Yet when he is accused of murdering the husband of a “paramour,” he is forced to seek Daisy’s assistance in proving his innocence. As their perilous search draws them into a web of deceits, they can no longer deny their simmering desire. Once secrets are revealed, will Daisy’s counterfeit scoundrel give up the scandalous games he plays and surrender his heart into her keeping?

Her Royal Spyness
Her Royal Spyness by Rhys Bowen is $1.99! This is the first book in a series of the same name, and I know Sarah has been enjoying these books both on paper and audio. She gave this one a B-:
The allure of the story wasn’t the mystery so much as it was Georgie and her friends. I loved her ingenuity and her way of managing people and situations, her determination and her sense of humor, and especially her friendships.
London 1932. Narrator Lady Victoria Georgiana Charlotte Eugenie, 34th in line for the throne, is flat broke. She bolted from Scotland — and engagement to Fishface (Prince Stiegfriend) — for London, where she has:
a) built a fire in the hearth
b) fallen for an absolutely unsuitable Irish peer
c) made a few quid housekeeping incognita, and
d) been summoned by the Queen to spy on her playboy sonWhen an arrogant Frenchman trying to swipe our family estate winds up dead in my bathtub, how can I clear my very long family name?

Always Be My Duchess
Always Be My Duchess by Amalie Howard is $2.99 at select vendors! This one seems to have a cover update, going from illustrated to photography, at least for the ebook. However, I think I liked the illustration better because it has some nods to the Pretty Woman inspiration.
Pretty Woman meets the Bridgertons in this witty, vivacious historical take on 90s romcoms by USA Today bestselling author Amalie Howard:
Lord Lysander Blackstone, the stern Duke of Montcroix, has only one interest: increasing his considerable fortune. After a series of betrayals, he keeps his emotions buried deep. Money, after all, can’t break a man’s heart—or make promises it can’t keep. But when his reputation for being heartless jeopardizes a new business deal, he finds himself seeking a most unusual—and alluring—solution…
Once an up-and-coming ballerina, Miss Geneviève Valery is now hopelessly out of work. After refusing to become a wealthy patron’s mistress, Nève was promptly shown the door to the streets. When she accidentally saves the life of a handsome duke, she doubts the encounter will go any better than her last brush with nobility. But instead of propositioning her, Montcroix makes Nève an offer she would be a fool to refuse: act as his fake fiancée in exchange for fortune enough to start over.
Only neither is prepared when very real feelings begin to grow between them. They both stand to win… but only if they’re willing to risk their hearts.

@Em… of Blandings I really liked OFF BALANCE and It has one of my all time favorite covers. Thanks for the head’s up!
@Qualisign: I’m positive the cover of Alta Hensley’s PRIMA simply took the photo used for OFF BALANCE and photoshopped it. The position of the raised hand and the delineation of the back muscles are almost identical:

@DiscoDollyDeb – The resemblance is definitely striking, isn’t it? With the caveat that I don’t know what is easy and what is hard in photoshop, I’m wondering if PRIMA’s cover was inspired by OFF BALANCE rather than being a photoshop. The right arm in OFF BALANCE looks just slightly curved where PRIMA’s looks straight. The right hand position is slightly different, both the entire hand with respect to the center line of the body and with respect to the finger positions within the hand. OFF BALANCE’s pinky and ring finger are more curved. Then there’s the shoulders. Those are very different.
I kinda want someone who is good with photoshop to weigh in!
@Empress of Blandings – thanks for the head’s up! This book has been on my TBR for ages, mostly because of the cover. The timing here is perfect because I’m about to head out on vacation. Can’t go on a trip without a stash of books.
Jay Hogan’s FIRST IMPRESSIONS is also free on Amazon US. The cover isn’t as striking as OFF BALANCE, but it features a doctor and a K-9 officer in New Zealand, which sounds like a fun combo.
I read a couple of the Royal Spyness books and they just kept being less than the sum of their parts. Too bad, as I like the idea and characters.
@DiscoDollyDeb and @Musical Trees – wow, those two ballet covers are REALLY similar poses aren’t they!
In my moderately informed opinion, they’re likely to be different photos, rather than photoshopped. I use Photoshop a lot (more for illustration than bashing photos together, although I’ve done my fair share of that), and it would be a lot of faff to tweak all those body parts and still have the musculature & lighting working properly.
It’s a lovely dramatic pose, and I imagine there are probably quite a few stock photos that portray it – it would likely be a lot easier and quicker and cheaper to use something straight out of the packet.
Just to add that I did some half-arsed research and looked up a few pictures of dancers and one made me ask out loud ‘SHOULD LEGS BEND THAT FAR?’ but the person in the photo looked quite cheerful about it so I guess it was fine. I hope.
