I really enjoyed THE FOOTMAN—I don’t read much historical romance, but I believe THE FOOTMAN was on my favorite reads list for the year I read it—but I’ve struggled with other books by LaViolette (or the books she publishes under her alternate pen name, Minerva Spencer). I recommend THE FOOTMAN for its angsty tale of impulse and revenge (cw/tw for an abusive marriage in the past), but don’t expect the same perfect combination of angst/heartache/heat in LaViolette’s/Spencer’s other books. Of course, as always, YMMV.

To say I loved The Duke Gets Even is an understatement of epic proportions. I’m pretty sure I felt every single emotion possible including some ugly crying, and I definitely made Very Bad Decisions when it came to staying up far too late to read it. Everyone needs a friend like Nellie and someone to love them like Lockwood loves her. It could be read alone, but I think one would appreciate it more after reading the other books in the series (which were frankly hit or miss with me) because Nellie and Lockwood’s story runs through the other three books.
