Links: Barbie, Cats, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Welcome everyone! It’s time for Links!

I’ll be attending my fourth cheese class of the year on Friday. This one has a focus on “snacking cheese.” I’m very much a grazer and snacker, so I’m pretty excited. My class last time was recreating a five-course meal but with cheese! The winner was the “banana split” course, featuring a softened Fior di Langa cheese from Caseificio Altalanga paired with banana jam and a maraschino cherry. It was so good!

Also next week is my birthday! I’ll be turning thirty-four, much to the shock of my co-workers. Some of them are in their mid-twenties and they were confounded that I knew a reference to the Six Flags dancing man commercial. To which I responded, “How old do you think I am?” Bless them!

As for birthday plans, my partner is decorating our “cozy loft room,” and I’m not to peek until it’s finished. All I know is that it’s going to have a big TV and two big faux fur bean bag chairs.

How’s your week shaping up?

With Budweiser debuting the new spokesperson, trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney, it was nice to get a little history lesson about beer,  boycotts, and LGBTQ+ support.

I am envious of this floofy, world-traveling cat named Gary. He seems so chill!

While I am saddened to be posting this in 2023, EC Spurlock passed along a link from The Washington Post about how to combat book bans.

Marketing for the upcoming Greta Gerwig Barbie movie has started making the rounds and it reminded me of this old ballroom routine. I love the commitment to the bit.

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

As much as I am looking forward ro the Barbie movie, I am loving the characters posters, or more to the point the posters people are making with the Barbie Selfie Generator: https://www.barbieselfie.ai
My favorite so far is “he brings the tacos” Ken of Danny Trejo. Who, coincidentally, is going to be at a local library for his book tour. Number 12 on the cancellation list as members get priority. Sigh.

Speaking of book bans, a post by Maggie Tokuda-Hall about dealing with Scholastic wanting her to remove the word “racism” from a book about the Japanese internment camps. If this is the big pubs response to the bans…sigh…
