Hello, everyone! How are we all doing?
While spring has sprung, I feel like I’m in a bit of a funk. It’s definitely been busy in the household and I’m looking forward to getting a moment to breathe. (Allergies notwithstanding, of course.)
Any anime watchers in the house? I used to be a big anime fan in high school, but dropped off for a while. I got sucked back in by first half-listening to my partner watch Hunter x Hunter in the background, which then turned into weekend marathons on the couch. We are now moving on to Jujutsu Kaisen.
What are you all watching right now?

This link was posted in our SBTB Patreon discord! (Seriously, it’s a fun place to hang out.) The National Parks Service has some free fish-themed crochet patterns!

Alexis Hall did an AMA on Reddit! Did any of you catch it live?

Relevant to our recent picture book Rec League, here’s an instagram account of fat representation in picture books. The account is run by talented illustrator Phoebe Wahl, whose Little Witch Hazel I previously recommended.

Next time Zoom gives you technical issues, how about suggesting you all conduct your next meeting in an MMORPG!

Lastly, I can’t stop watching this drag performance!

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!
I just finished One Mississippi with Tig Notaro. I LOVE her. She brought such compassion, humour and reality to a woman dealing with breast cancer, family and life. So worth watching.
My husband and I are on season 2 of Perry Mason and it’s top 5 of anything I’ve ever watched. Brilliant writing and acting. Matthew Rhys is fantastic and he owns the character (sorry Raymond Burr)
We’re on the latest season of Ted Lasso. Its funny and sweet and the characters are memorable.Supposedly this is the final season. We’re enjoying it thoroughly.
My husband and I somehow over night became those people who almost never watch TV, at least as a couple. Very little seems to hold both our interests. I’m definitely looking forward to more TED LASSO (staying away from spoilers is hard).
On my own I’ve been watching SANDITON. It is a bit too soapy for my taste (lots of awful scheming villains that seem corny to me) but this is the last season and it seems like there are lots of romantic happy endings coming everyone’s way. ABBOTT ELEMENTARY is still one of my hands down favorites for how much it gets right (my kids go to an urban public school) and has a sweet romance simmering.
Trying to get into LOCKWOOD AND CO but it’s not quite sticking yet.
I’m still watching WILL TRENT which is annoying me because of how much NICER it is than Karin Slaughter’s books, which are truly dark and nasty mysteries with messy endings. This is more Law and Order TV, where everything is wrapped up tidily by the end of the episode – I was expecting the first episode’s mystery to last at least three episodes of the show, for example. And well, Show Angie is infinitely nicer and more sympathetic than Book Angie, and Show Will is far more charmingly confident and suave than Book Will. The only character I’m not irritated by is Will’s single-mother partner, Faith, who’s been cast really well.
Please, please – it’s National PARK Service, not “Parks.” As a former ranger, this makes me grind my teeth. Their Twitter and Facebook accounts are hilarious, as is the Oklahoma Fish & Wildlife account.
For anyone who loves the NPS’s social feeds (which are thoroughly delightful), you may also enjoy the similar styles of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (twitter @USFWS) and the Washington State Dept. of Natural Resources (twitter @waDNR). Their social managers are clearly amazing and loving their gigs.
Also watching Hunter x Hunter with my teen! I’ve finally gotten them hooked on anime. Well, some anime, at least!
And I just ran across this game and it totally made me think of the Bitchery!
Ride, the new western on Hallmark was interesting. They killed a Hallstar off in the first five minutes. Killed him off! It looks promising if you like westerns. It has some grit.
The Hunter x Hunter mangaka is married to Sailor Moon’s mangaka
@Tam – yes!!! For now, I’m still watching Will Trent, but the stories are not dark or gritty or long enough and the interesting parts of the characters have been smoothed. (I HATE how nice Show Angie is!!) Plus, there is some really terrible dialog and problems with space and time, so I am not sure how much longer I can hold out.
