Links: Cows, Kittens, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses. It’s Wednesday! Who let that happen?! Why wasn’t I informed?!

This week is a “no bones” week for sure. Not sure if I want a do-over, or just to skip ahead.  Anyone feeling the same way?

If you are, I hope you have something wonderful to look forward to soon! I’m ready for the weekend, where I can just veg out and maybe just live off of chips and dip for a few days.

Did you see the trailer for The Hating Game adaptation dropped? I’m iffy on the Lucy Hale casting. What do you think?

Do yourself a favor and meet the soup kittens!

TONIGHT! I hope you’ll join me as I introduce authors K.M Jackson and Mary Pauline Lowry as they talk about Jackson’s latest contemporary romance. Preorders get a couple cute postcards and a signed bookplate! The event is free to attend.

This might be behind a paywall, but I feel the pain of the leaf blower annoyances. I’m also someone who hates loud mechanical sounds – vacuums, blenders, etc.

The more you know!

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

The Hating Game movie looks so… generic. Which I say with confidence because that trailer goes through the whole plot beat by beat.
Lucy is stripped of her quirkiness. Josh has no alpha energy. They really just kept “she’s short and he’s tall and they work together.” Pass.

Of all the romances that could have been chosen for a movie adaptation, why THE HATING GAME? I know many people loved it (obviously, or it wouldn’t have been chosen), but I found it utterly false in the office details and the MCs came across as 8th graders doing adult cosplay. But it does bring up a couple of great questions: What romance novel would you most like to see adapted into a movie? And what romance novel do you think is most “cinematic”? These questions may not necessarily have the same answer.

  3. Maureen says:

@DDD-I would love to see the Escape to New Zealand Rugby books by Rosalind James made into movies! I think they would also be very cinematic being set in NZ-with the characters often visiting family in different parts of the country.

I am just here to REGISTER A SOUP KITTEN PROTEST! Butternut Squash and Chowder were ROBBED! Like Lentil, they have SUPERB dinner manners and I demand a recount.

  5. wingednike says:

Recency bias for me, but I think Battle Royal by Lucy Parker would make a great movie.

Spellbound by Allie Therin could possibly be a great cinematic film

  6. Jill Q. says:

For me it would be WELL MET by Jen Deluca, which maybe isn’t the most cinematic choice, but for the total shallow reason it has my absolute “oh, no he’s hot,” moments of all time. The heroine has been going along, preparing for this Ren Faire project that she’s gotten dragged by her niece and bickering with the uptight stick in the mud English teacher who is in charge, but then – on the first day of the fair being open to the public, she spots this guy dressed as a pirate, walking backwards up a hill in extremely tight leather pants. A very, very swaggering, hot, sexy pirate. Something about him seems familiar, but. . . I giggle and swoon every time I re-read/re-listen to it.

I realize makeovers are kind of a fraught concept, but I love a good hero makeover and can only think of a couple. There’s DON’T TELL HER IT’S ME, a kind of cheesy 80s/90s classic. The movie version of STARDUST has a bit of subtle one where Tristan cleans up and you can Yvaine re-evaluate him a bit. And I mean, I guess there’s PRINCESS BRIDE, although I think Wesley was already a pretty dreamy farmboy. I’m sure there must be many more, but I’m drawing a blank.

Also I just love the Ren Faire setting and how the two characters are juggling their two personas and trying to decide what is real, “are we flirting?” “Are we just pretending to be flirting in character?”
    Netflix, get on it!

I would love to see any of Helen Hoang’s books adapted for the screen.

  8. EJ says:

Oh no Chicken Noods! Maybe it takes practice.

  9. Escapeologist says:

@marjorie I support the SOUP KITTEN RECOUNT! Each and every one deserves at least a 12/10.

This reminds me of WeRateDogs and “they’re good dogs, Brent”. We demand more cute pets getting their due recognition!

  10. Sue says:

Aw, we just said goodbye to our most excellent cat and kitten videos are making me cry right now. But they’re also SO CUTE. Definitely all 12/10!

  11. Maureen says:

@Sue-I’m so sorry for the loss of your most excellent cat. In a perfect world, our beloved pets would live longer.

I loved the kitten videos, and kudos to all who bottle feed kittens. The feeding schedule must be insane.

  12. denise says:

    hypercusis and misophonia are real

  13. denise says:

it’s hyperacusis as the correct spelling

  14. Carol S. says:

I think the Lucy Parker books would be fantastic on screen. I’d also be curious to see some of the Winston brother books by Penny Reid. Anything by Courtney Milan. Also the Ashley Poston con series would be great if done properly…
