This HaBO request comes from Kebra, who is looking for this romance:
I read a book in the 90s that I would swear was written by Anne Stuart (maybe) but I can’t remember the title. Here’s what I know:
The hero’s name is Mitch and he’s a D.A. He’s also deaf in one ear – I think it was a chigger or some such disgusting creature.
The heroine’s father is on trial for financial fraud. At one point, she enters the courtroom in a fur. Her father dies of a heart attack in prison/court and she’s stripped all the dough.
Mitch is secretly in love with her and they meet later and have what seemed like an uncomfortable relationship. She is torn because he convicted/killed her father. Mitch confronts her because she never initiates sex and he has to be aggressive – almost like he has to overcome/seduce her “against her will” but not really. There is no consent issue here.
That’s what I know; that’s all that I know. I wish to know more!
Can we solve this one?
OMG someone please answer – I want to check out this title
I’m pretty certain it’s not Anne Stuart 🙁
(Yes, I’m old enough to have read Anne the first time around…)
This is so BONKERS!
I was convinced this was a Kara Lennox Harlequin Superromance (she had a whole “Justice” series about people who had to work together in criminal cases). One of them even had a hero named Mitch! But alas, nothing else about the story matches.
Fingers crossed someone figures it out.
I think this is Kiss in the Dark by Meryl Sawyer. I read this one back in the day and loved it. I wonder if it would hold up.
Here is the description:
Journalist Royce Winston turns to hotshot attorney Mitch Durant–a former lover and the man who destroyed her father in court five years before–when the now-affianced woman is charged with murder, and despite herself, she finds attraction once again.
