Princess Leia and More Historical Romances

  • Leia, Princess of Alderaan

Leia, Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Gray

Leia: Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Gray is 99c! We ran a wonderful guest post by Crystal on Gray’s Star Wars novels and this one is definitely mentioned:

In this book, Leia is a bold, idealistic teenage girl, in training for her role as ruler, and undergoing the trials that will prove her fitness for it. We get to see her relationship with her parents, Bail and Breha Organa. Breha, especially, gives us an understanding of why Leia is the woman she is.

Explore the beginning of Leia’s participation in the Rebellion and the origin of her friendship with Amilyn Holdo from The Last Jedi! Sixteen-year-old Princess Leia Organa faces the most challenging task of her life so far: proving herself in the areas of body, mind, and heart to be formally named heir to the throne of Alderaan. She’s taking rigorous survival courses, practicing politics, and spearheading relief missions to worlds under Imperial control. But Leia has worries beyond her claim to the crown. Her parents, Breha and Bail, aren’t acting like themselves lately; they are distant and preoccupied, seemingly more concerned with throwing dinner parties for their allies in the Senate than they are with their own daughter. Determined to uncover her parents’ secrets, Leia starts down an increasingly dangerous path that puts her right under the watchful eye of the Empire. And when Leia discovers what her parents and their allies are planning behind closed doors, she finds herself facing what seems like an impossible choice: dedicate herself to the people of Alderaan (including the man she loves) or to the galaxy at large, which is in desperate need of a rebel hero…

  • What a Difference a Duke Makes

What a Difference a Duke Makes by Lenora Bell

What a Difference a Duke Makes by Lenora Bell is $3.99! Carrie read this one and gave it a C+. She refers to it as a soap bubble romance. Fun and light, but forgettable. This is the first book in the School for Dukes series. Have you read this one?

Wanted: Governess for duke’s unruly children

Edgar Rochester, Duke of Banksford, is one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in England, but when it comes to raising twins alone, he knows he needs help. The only problem is the children have chased away half the governesses in London. Until the clever, bold, and far-too-enticing Miss Mari Perkins arrives.

Lost: One heart to an arrogant duke

Mari knows how to wrap even the most rebellious children around her finger. But their demanding, wickedly handsome father? He won’t be quite so easy to control. And there’s something else she can’t seem to command. Her heart. The foolish thing beats so wildly every time the duke is near.

Found: A forbidden passion neither can deny

As his employee, Mari is strictly off-limits. But what if she’s the one breaking all his rules? In the game of governess versus duke, how can Edgar maintain his defenses when the only thing he wants to do is let the tempting beauty win?

  • Once Dishonored

Once Dishonored by Mary Jo Putney

Once Dishonored by Mary Jo Putney is $1.99 at Amazon! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and, so far, isn’t being price-matched elsewhere. The heroine’s outfit on the cover is giving me major Three Musketeers vibes. This is also the fifth book in the Rogues Redeemed series.

London, 1816. As a Royal Navy officer, Lucas Mandeville, Lord Foxton, has fought his share of battles on the high seas, followed by long years of imprisonment. But on this night, he’d rather be on the burning deck of a ship than in a ballroom, where it is just a matter of time before someone challenges him because of what happened on the Continent.

A woman who has lost her reputation is nothing…

When dark-haired beauty Kyla Douglas arrives, a whisper of scandal ripples through the ton. The disgraced divorcee’s entrance is an act of daring. Which is exactly why Lucas asks her to dance…

A couple who stands together has everything…

Unexpectedly, Lucas offers Kyla his aid in finding the evidence to regain her good name—and her beloved young son. Together they investigate the wicked conspiracy that destroyed her life, and in the midst of danger, find a deep love that will redeem them both—if only they can live long enough to build a future together.

  • Governess Gone Rogue

Governess Gone Rogue by Laura Lee Guhrke

Governess Gone Rogue by Laura Lee Guhrke is $3.99! This historical romance is part of the Dear Lady Truelove series and features a single parent hero with twin boys and a heroine who disguises herself. Readers say this is a great tender and sweet romance. However, be warned that this one is a very slow burn.

    Dear Lady Truelove…

My twin brother and I need a new mother, though Papa insists he’ll never marry again. Must be nice, brainy, and fond of cats…

Lady Truelove may be London’s most famous advice columnist, but James St. Clair, the Earl of Kenyon, knows his wild young sons need a tutor, not a new mother. They need a man tough enough to make his hellions tow the line, and James is determined to find one.

Miss Amanda Leighton, former schoolteacher and governess, knows she has all the qualifications to be a tutor. And while female tutors are unheard of, Amanda isn’t about to lose the chance at her dream job because of pesky details like that. If Lord Kenyon insists on hiring a man, then she has only one option.

Jamie isn’t sure what to make of his new employee, until he realizes the shocking truth—beneath the ill-fitting suits, his boys’ tutor is a woman. An unconventional, outspoken, thoroughly intriguing woman. Despite Amanda’s deception, he can’t dismiss her when his boys are learning so much. Yet Jamie, too, is learning surprising lessons—about desire, seduction, and passionate second chances.

  1. Carrie G says:

Two books on sale today that fit the recent Rec League post on historicals with women wearing pants. Anyone read them?

  2. Egged says:

@carrie g, I read the ghurke and enjoyed it but if I remember correctly, the lady-disguised-in-pants trope is a relatively small part of the book.

  4. Penny says:

From the Bell review by Carrie

“I enjoyed the frothy confection of this book once I relaxed and let the story happen. It’s skillfully written, with lovely and varied locations that we don’t often see in a historical. The characters are endearing. The sex is sexy. Ultimately, all the plot threads come together in a satisfying, if predictable, fashion. As it happens, I read it right when I needed it. It never made me stressed, the conflict was minimal, and everything was pretty.”

  6. Lisa F says:

The Leia book is so good, and so worth reading even if you don’t enjoy YA!

  7. LML says:

    Mari Perkins? Mari Perkins??

  8. JenniferH says:

@Carrie G – I mentioned Once Dishonored in the comments in the Rec League post on women in pants, but at that stage I had only read the first chapter. I have now finished the book, and enjoyed it – I would give it a B-. The heroine did wear pants regularly while having fencing lessons. A warning – there is some ‘faith healing’ involving laying on of hands, which may not be to everyone’s taste.

  9. Sydneysider says:

@CarrieG, Governess Gone Rogue is OK. I didn’t like it as much as others in the Lady Truelove series, mostly because I am finding it harder to read employer-employee romances nowadays. It’s still pretty entertaining and does feature a woman in disguise, so if that trope doesn’t bother you it’s worth reading!
