  • Red, White & Royal Blue

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston is $2.99! This is a limited time deal and I know many of you loved this one. Aarya gave this one a C- because she found the political world building too much of a distraction.

A big-hearted romantic comedy in which the First Son falls in love with the Prince of Wales after an incident of international proportions forces them to pretend to be best friends…

First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz is the closest thing to a prince this side of the Atlantic. With his intrepid sister and the Veep’s genius granddaughter, they’re the White House Trio, a beautiful millennial marketing strategy for his mother, President Ellen Claremont. International socialite duties do have downsides—namely, when photos of a confrontation with his longtime nemesis Prince Henry at a royal wedding leak to the tabloids and threaten American/British relations.

The plan for damage control: staging a fake friendship between the First Son and the Prince. Alex is busy enough handling his mother’s bloodthirsty opponents and his own political ambitions without an uptight royal slowing him down. But beneath Henry’s Prince Charming veneer, there’s a soft-hearted eccentric with a dry sense of humor and more than one ghost haunting him.

As President Claremont kicks off her reelection bid, Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret relationship with Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations. And Henry throws everything into question for Alex, an impulsive, charming guy who thought he knew everything: What is worth the sacrifice? How do you do all the good you can do? And, most importantly, how will history remember you?

  • All the Way

All the Way by Kristen Proby

All the Way by Kristen Proby is $1.99! I think this is a Kindle Daily Deal. I mentioned this one on a previous Hide Your Wallet because I was super interested in the heroine. However, longtime fans of Proby felt this one didn’t live up to some of her previous books.

In New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby’s brand new Romancing Manhattan series, three brothers get more than they bargain for as they practice law, balance life, and navigate love in and around New York City.

Finn Cavanaugh is known for being a force to be reckoned with in the courtroom. He owns a successful law firm with his brother and brother-in-law in Manhattan. On the rare occasion that he has down time, he spends it at his home in Martha’s Vineyard. But when Finn’s troubled niece goes to stay with him for the summer in Martha’s Vineyard, he’s reluctant to take time off from work. That is, until he meets his beautiful new neighbor, London.

London Watson is a Tony Award winning actress on Broadway. When tragedy strikes her family, leaving her alone and injured, she flees Manhattan for Martha’s Vineyard. Hoping she can figure out how to pick up the pieces of her life, London is convinced that she’ll never be able to return to the stage. But when she meets the charming young girl next door and her sexy uncle, they soon lure London out of her shell as she finally begins to heal from the wounds of her past.

But when London feels confident enough to return to the spotlight, she’s dealt another devastating blow. Will the newfound love between London and Finn be enough to conquer all? Or will it be over before it has a chance to grow…?

  • The City of Brass

The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty is $3.99! This is a fantasy novel that we’ve mentioned on Hide Your Wallet, a recent podcast episode, and in my local book group. It’s also recommended for fans of The Golem and the Jinni, which is a huge favorite here. Have you read it?

Step into The City of Brass, the spellbinding debut from S. A. Chakraborty—an imaginative alchemy of The Golem and the Jinni, The Grace of Kings, and One Thousand and One Nights, in which the future of a magical Middle Eastern kingdom rests in the hands of a clever and defiant young con artist with miraculous healing gifts

Nahri has never believed in magic. Certainly, she has power; on the streets of 18th century Cairo, she’s a con woman of unsurpassed talent. But she knows better than anyone that the trade she uses to get by—palm readings, zars, healings—are all tricks, sleights of hand, learned skills; a means to the delightful end of swindling Ottoman nobles.

But when Nahri accidentally summons an equally sly, darkly mysterious djinn warrior to her side during one of her cons, she’s forced to accept that the magical world she thought only existed in childhood stories is real. For the warrior tells her a new tale: across hot, windswept sands teeming with creatures of fire, and rivers where the mythical marid sleep; past ruins of once-magnificent human metropolises, and mountains where the circling hawks are not what they seem, lies Daevabad, the legendary city of brass?a city to which Nahri is irrevocably bound.

In that city, behind gilded brass walls laced with enchantments, behind the six gates of the six djinn tribes, old resentments are simmering. And when Nahri decides to enter this world, she learns that true power is fierce and brutal. That magic cannot shield her from the dangerous web of court politics. That even the cleverest of schemes can have deadly consequences.

After all, there is a reason they say be careful what you wish for . . .

  • The Duke’s Shotgun Wedding

    The Duke’s Shotgun Wedding

The Duke’s Shotgun Wedding by Stacy Reid is $1.99! This is the first book in a historical romance series and seems to feature a marriage of convenience. I’ve heard great things about Reid’s romances, though be warned this one is on the shorter side.

    Victorian Era England…

As far as rash decisions go, it was formidable. But Lady Jocelyn Rathbourne’s will remains strong. If the only way to save her family’s estate and reputation is by aiming a small pistol at the Duke of Calydon, then so be it. For Lady Jocelyn demands satisfaction – and she will have it at any cost. Even if it means demanding the hand of the intense and foreboding Duke himself…

But she’s made the first move against a very dangerous opponent…

For Sebastian Thornton is no stripling to be trifled with. The lady has played her hand. Now it’s his turn. For Sebastian is in need of a wife. And to find a wife with spirit and fire – even if she means to only marry for his money – would be a great prize indeed. And he intends to thoroughly take his pleasure with her… and demands his own satisfaction in return.

  1. Wait, what? says:

I hope the blurb for The Duke’s Shotgun Wedding isn’t indicative of the quality of writing in the book itself. For it would get old quickly. For it is annoying. For there is no reason to begin every sentence with the word “for.”

And isn’t the traditional meaning of “shotgun wedding” that the bride is pregnant, and the groom is being forced to marry her by her shotgun-toting father?

    Perhaps I’m being too nitpicky. . .

  2. FashionablyEvil says:

THE CITY OF BRASS is awesome. I can’t wait for the third one in the series to come out.

  3. DonnaMarie says:

@Wait, what; I hear you sister, as it is also a distinctly American colloquialism.

  4. Eliza says:

For what it’s worth, I loved Red, White, and Royal Blue, but then again I didn’t think too hard about the political world-building. I just jumped in with both feet, and what a fun romp it was! A-grade from me.

  5. Ms. M says:

@DonnaMarie and Wait, what– is it?? I just thought it was a questionable style choice. I first noticed it in re-reading Flowers in the Attic as an adult (… yes) and then in my father’s letters from the 1960’s!

  6. Emily B says:

I also loved Red, White, and Royal Blue. It was one of my most enjoyable reads last year and pure escapist fun. While politics are a part of the story given it involves the son of a president, it in no way took away from my enjoyment of the characters and world building.

  7. seantheaussie says:

I am delighted someone else also hated the politics in RWaRB. They stopped me dead.

  8. taffygrrl says:

City of Brass was such a fantastic book. I read it in two sittings. The world building is extraordinary. If I didn’t already own it I would be buying it right now!
