    Indecent Exposure by Tessa Bailey

Indecent Exposure by Tessa Bailey is $1.99! This is the second book in The Academy series and can be read on its own. I love Bailey’s writing and have enjoyed this series so far. Content warning for the hero’s backstory. If you want to be spoiled (just to be on the safe side), check out this review on Goodreads.

    Is there a problem, Officer?

Jack Garrett isn’t a police officer yet, but there’s already an emergency. His new firearms instructor—the one who just dropped every jaw in the academy gym—is the same sexy Irish stranger Jack locked lips with last night. The Olympic gold medalist and expert markswoman is now officially off-limits, but Jack’s never cared much for rules . . .

Katie McCoy’s been cooped up in a shooting range for too long. A wild love affair is just what she needs to let loose, though she never imagined it would be with her smokin’ hot trainee. She cannot get involved with Jack—but a quick fling? Perfect. Falling hard for a charismatic recruit with an equal amount of sex appeal and secrets? Bloody stupid.

Jack’s charmed the pants off plenty of women (literally), yet few have ever looked beyond his perfect surface. Until Katie. He’ll do anything to keep her in his life . . . except tell her about his past. But a tiny lie of omission never hurt anyone, right?

  • The Black Count

The Black Count by Tom Reiss

The Black Count: Glory, Revolution, Betrayal, and the Real Count of Monte Cristo by Tom Reiss is $1.99. This book won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography, and is the true story of the real Count of Monte Cristo, who was the son of a black slave from what is now Haiti. Carrie enjoyed this one and gave it an A grade:

Even though this book has to sort out so much stuff, it remains a page-turner. It’s informative and entertaining and mind-blowing. It challenges assumptions about race in France in the 1700s, but it also dazzles with drama, action, and intrigue.

By the author of the internationally bestselling biography The Orientalist, The Black Count brings to life one of history’s great forgotten heroes: a man almost unknown today yet with a personal story that is strikingly familiar. His swashbuckling exploits appear in The Three Musketeers, and his triumphs and ultimate tragic fate inspired The Count of Monte Cristo. His name is Alex Dumas. Father of the novelist Alexandre Dumas, Alex has become, through his son’s books, the model for a captivating modern protagonist: the wronged man in search of justice.

Born to a black slave mother and a fugitive white French nobleman in Saint-Domingue (present-day Haiti), Alex Dumas was briefly sold into bondage but then made his way to Paris where he was schooled as a sword-fighting member of the French aristocracy.

He was only 32 when he was given command of 53,000 men, the reward for series of triumphs that many regarded as impossible, and then topped his previous feats by leading a raid up a frozen cliff face that secured the Alps for France. It was after his subsequent heroic service as Napoleon’s cavalry commander that Dumas was captured and cast into a dungeon—and a harrowing ordeal commenced that inspired one of the world’s classic works of fiction.

The Black Count is simultaneously a riveting adventure story, a lushly textured evocation of 18th-century France, and a window into the modern world’s first multi-racial society. But it is also a heartbreaking story of the enduring bonds of love between a father and son. Drawing on hitherto unknown documents, letters, battlefield reports and Dumas’ handwritten prison diary, The Black Count is a groundbreaking masterpiece of narrative nonfiction.

  • Wired

    Wired by Julie Garwood

Wired by Julie Garwood is $1.99! This romantic suspense is part of the Buchanan/FBI series, but can be read out of order. Some readers felt the main characters seemed rather familiar to previous ones. However, others found the action to be really compelling. Have you read this one?

A beautiful computer hacker and a bad-boy FBI agent must collaborate—in more ways than one—in the sizzling new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Julie Garwood.

Allison Trent doesn’t look like a hacker. In fact, when she’s not in college working on her degree, she models on the side. But behind her gorgeous face is a brilliant mind for computers and her real love is writing—and hacking—code. Her dream is to write a new security program that could revolutionize the tech industry.

Hotshot FBI agent Liam Scott has a problem: a leak deep within his own department. He needs the skills of a top-notch hacker to work on a highly sensitive project: to secretly break into the FBI servers and find out who the traitor is. But he can’t use one of his own. He finds the perfect candidate in Allison. Only, there’s one problem—she wants nothing to do with his job and turns him down flat.

What Liam doesn’t know is that Allison is hiding secrets that she doesn’t want the FBI to uncover. But Liam will do nearly anything to persuade her to join his team, even break a few rules if that’s what it takes. A temptation that could put his job—and both of their futures—on the line…

  • The Drift Collection: 1-3

The Drift Collection: 1-3 by Susan Hayes

The Drift Collection: 1-3 by Susan Hayes is 99c! If one of these covers looks familiar, it’s because we featured it on Cover Snark. This collection has three sci-fi, erotic romances with menage scenarios and cyborgs. Might not be a bad collection to have on hand if you ever need something bonkers to read.

***Three steamy cyborg romances from the Sci-fi romance series, The Drift***

Out on the edge of civilized space is a rag-tag collection of space stations and platforms known as the Drift. It’s a haven for the hunted, the lost, and those seeking second chances. The ones who live there hail from every species, class, and corner of the galaxy, but they all have one thing in common: they don’t belong anywhere else.

It’s a world of its own. One where corporations rule, the laws are flexible, and everything is for sale, for the right price.

    Welcome to the Drift.

    Book One: Double Down

When it comes to love, sometimes the best bet is to double down.

Kit and Luke Armas are cyborgs created for one purpose, battle. Now that the war is over, they must fight to carve out a place for themselves in a universe they were intended to die for but never be a part of.

    Book Two: All In
When love is the prize, the only way to win is to go all in.

The Resource Wars may have ended, but for the cyborgs created to fight in them, the battle for acceptance is far from over. Former soldiers Toro and Jaeger have been on the move since they left military service. They’re looking for more than their next payday; they want to find a place to call home.

    Book Three: Wild Card

The game of love can change in a heartbeat when fate deals you a wild card.

Technician Lieksa Kiv saw firsthand what the corporations did to their cyborg soldiers during the Resource Wars. Her job: repair their damaged cybernetic components and send them back into battle. When a stolen kiss reveals the truth about her charges, Lieksa sacrifices everything to protect the cyborgs’ secret, including a future with the men she’s fallen for.

  1. Kim says:

I’m using this Bailey sale as an excuse to hijack the comments with a question I’ve been wanting to ask the Bitchery.

I loved Bailey’s “Getaway ”Girl” and liked “Runaway Girl.” I would love to read more of her books, but my problem is that I’m not into military or police dudes, which seems to be her thing. I also don’t really like alphas, at least not super-alphas. (Hence my feelings about her books I’ve read. I loved Elijah, Addison, and Naomi, but was just okay on Jason — I get it, dude, you like beer.)

Do folks have recs for other Bailey books that (1) don’t feature mega alphas and (2) don’t involve or emphasize military/police backgrounds?

    Thank in advance! 🙂

  2. Amanda says:

@Kim: Have you tried her Broke and Beautiful series? It’s about three men and three women who all eventually pair up. None of the characters work in law enforcement.

  3. Cat C says:

@Kim, saaaaame. She wrote two novella sequels in the “girl” series. “Renaissance Man” also has a Jason-like alpha BUT “Halfway Girl” has a beautiful bear cub of a beta and I adore him (it’s up for preorder but you can listen on Read Me Romance podcast). +1 to the Broke and Beautiful series though one has a teacher-student thing and I only liked it because of how great Tessa is.

  4. Carla says:

Oh how I wish Julie Garwood would go back to writing historicals. She was my #1 favorite historical romance author, and I’ve read her old stuff over and over again, but her modern day stuff is just not good. Never thought I would DNF a Julie Garwood, but I’ve tried several of her modern ones and they were just not it. 🙁

  5. Jeannette says:

While I’m not fond of Julie Garwood’s modern books, “Mercy” is really really good. It has her trademark humor – the sequence where the hero is presumed to be the new football coach is read out loud/laugh out loud funny. Her other modern books have not stayed on my keeper shelf.

  6. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Kim: I really enjoyed CAPTIVATED which Bailey co-wrote with one of my favorite writers, Eve Dangerfield. It’s about an Australian woman (a veterinarian) who develops a huge crush on her landlord (the strong, silent type). As with most Dangerfield books, the h&h enjoy a shared kink (in this case, kidnapping fantasies).

  7. Kim says:

Thank you THANK YOU @Amanda, @Cat C, and @DiscoDollyDeb! I’m happy to hear that I’m not alone, AND that I have these great options! You made my Spring Forward Monday 🙂

  8. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Kim: Bailey also wrote a series of erotic romances that take place at a BDSM club called Serve: OWNED BY FATE, EXPOSED BY FATE, and DRIVEN BY FATE. The stories are interrelated and should be read in order.

  9. Maile says:

Dakota Gray’s ‘Perv’ is free! Run don’t walk!

The next book in the series is on sale too, I think – she’s just released book #3 ‘Adonis Line’ if you’re keen to pick that up as well (I pre-ordered, can’t wait to get started)

  10. Mary says:

@DiscoDollyDeb I got Captivated after reading your comment and LOVED it. Thanks so much for mentioning it. I’ve read both the authors before but somehow missed this one. It has some really interesting commentary about the nuances behind why women can desire a more dominant partner. And it’s hot.

  11. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Mary: I’m always ringing the bell for my favorites. I like Tessa Bailey, but I LOVE Eve Dangerfield. I love the humor, heart, and heat in her books.

  12. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I think I just “hearted” my own comment. Did not mean to do that. I am not that egotistical!

  13. Wait, what? says:

Does anyone know if The Drift books feature D/s or BDSM? After reading the sample available on Amazon it doesn’t seem like they are, but D/s and BDSM aren’t my jam so I’d like to know before I buy. The sample stops before we get to the good stuff . . . Damn you Amazon!

And on a related note, I found it hilarious that the “sexy attire” the two male main characters wear for their first date with the female main character was black slacks, white shirts, and blue neckties. Reminds me of the young LDS missionaries I see around town! Not what leaps to mind when I think of sexy times 🙂
