This HaBO request was sent in by Nicole, who wants to find this romance she never got to read:
I was reading a sample off Amazon and I think my son deleted it with his little toddler fingers, and I can’t think of the name.
It was a woman’s wedding day and when she walked down the aisle, her fiancé told her he didn’t love her anymore. She locks herself in the bathroom with her friend and then escapes out the window. She then runs into a tall handsome fella, who was at the wedding and was a friend of the groom. She does a runner with him in his truck. They talk about life and his wife left him for another woman.
He takes her to an abandoned amusement park where he likes to go to think about stuff. There’s a scene where he helps her up the steps of a slide (she’s afraid of heights).
And that’s where the sample ended.
Please help me. It was the next book on my to-read list!
I’m definitely of the opinion that no good can come from abandoned amusement parks.
This sounds a tiny bit like Searching for Beautiful (Jennifer Probst). However, some of the details don’t line up (such as the hero being her long-time friend, not the groom’s friend). If I remember correctly, there is an amusement park scene (or I might be confusing it with a racetrack scene).
I have to know: does the heroine go up the steps to the slide in her wedding dress? Recipe for disaster; Oy!
Dirty by Kylie Scott? The heroine discovers her fiance is having an affair on the day of the wedding and escapes, wearing her wedding dress, into (not out of) the bathroom of the neighbor’s house. He discovers her when he turns on the shower. I don’t remember an amusement park scene though.
Nicole sometimes amazon list books I’ve sampled under content and devices. Hopefully someone recognizes the book.
I also thought of Dirty by Kylie Scott, but there is definitely no amusement park in that one. It is really close! And a good read if your itch was mainly the crazy meet-cute in a wedding dress.
I think it’s Susan Elizabeth Phillips, tho I can’t remember which one.
I agree with Jackie. It could be SEP’s The Great Escape. A really fun read!
Left at the Altar in Contemporary Romance
The hero or heroine is literally left at the altar. Jilted on his or her wedding day in Contemporary Romance.
Goodreads has this list, maybe it helps
Sadly, its not The Great Escape. Similar basic premise but no amusement park.Great read if you haven’t read it yet.
So many other elements aren’t right for this HABO, but the amusement park reminds me of the good Ferris wheel scene in Piper Rayne’s recent book Lessons from a one night stand…
