This HaBO request comes from B, who is trying to find this particular romance:
Trying to figure out this book where this woman goes to the jungle to find her missing brother. He’s doing research on these tigers that only live on this one island, and he hasn’t been heard from since he last went to the island.
So she goes and hires this rough ranger type dude to take her into the island. Pretty sure there’s some hot boat sex.
Mostly I remember that when they’re on the island they have to sleep in these hammock cage things up in the trees, so they’re safe from the tigers. There’s some hot hammock jungle sex.
I’d love to find this as it was the first erotic romance I ever read and I’m so curious how it holds up. My sister checked it out by accident, thinking it was actually about tigers and I was hooked.
Boat sex. Hammock sex. Let’s hope no one suffers from motion sickness.
Special tigers on an island? Set in Tasmania perhaps?
All I could think is can’t tigers climb trees? According to internet they can. So the hammocks, not so safe.
But they’re cage hammocks. So it’s at least as safe as shark cage diving.
Two comments: firstly re Tasmanian Tigers, not unless it’s a historical since the species has been extinct since 1932. And secondly, for some reason this struck me as the funniest headline ever.
@RebeccaA – That was my first thought! I overlooked the cage part at first.
If they’re in a cage, what’s the added advantage to the hammock??? Other than “swinging sex,” that is.
@oceanjasper. Historical is not the only option there. Thylacine shifters would be a bit poignant, but still possible.
And logically they’d be Tasmanian Aboriginal, which would counter the myth taught to older generations that the humans went the way of the ‘tigers’.
Wouldn’t help if B’s sister could remember what she was looking for about tigers when this book became available? A record of it in the browser or library card? It sounds like a crazy fun read.
I’d try it if it can be found.
This sounds like a 1980s Harlequin Presents. I haven’t read it, but that description is familiar. Waiting in suspense to find out.
re MMV’s comment – If she checked it out thinking it was nonfiction, it probably has the word tiger in the title.
Fictiondb.com has a complete list of all Harlequin Presents (from 1973) Might be worth to check, but it’s a very loooong list.
B here, y’all are hilarious.
Yes tigers can climb trees, I remember that being confusing too. I think the hammock was inside the cage for sleeping? Also maybe a scene where a tiger does climb the tree? Really not sure.
It was not a period piece or a shifter/were thing, though I would absolutely read that.
My sister found the book (likely mis-shelved) in the YA section of the library and got it because it had a tiger on the cover. So, alas, no search to remember.
Remembering the cover as a light/seafoam green, kinda misty with a small tiger in the middle.
Even if nothing comes of it, this thread gave me a good chuckle, so thank you.
Nothing??? Seriously!? I need to read this book you guys!
I haven’t read it, but could it be this one?:
Heart of a Tiger by Marlys Rold
“A new adventure romance from the author of The Mercenary. Kelly Griffin has come to the coast of Asia to search for her missing brother, a wildlife photographer who is feared dead — killed by the man-eating tigers that inhabit the island regions known as the Sundabans. Sam Tanner, an American guide, is reluctantly willing to help, though he fears that like his best friend, Kelly’s brother is dead. In their quest to find him, Kelly and Sam will deal with earthquakes, pirates, and the feared tigers . . . but the real danger in the jungle is the sparks that fly between them…”
