  • In His Hands

In His Hands by Adriana Anders

In His Hands by Adriana Anders is $1.99! This is book three in the Blank Canvas series and I highly recommend the entire series. The books are on the darker side (content warning themes of abuse, isolation, violence), but Anders does a great job with slow burn romances. And, if you want all of the books, the first and second book are 99c each!

    The rules are simple:
    Never speak to outsiders.
    Never yearn for something more.
And never, ever seek the pleasure of a stolen kiss…or a whispered promise that with him, she can finally be free.

Abby Merkley has been a member of the Church of the Apocalyptic Faith since she was a child, and there’s no way out…until her darkly handsome, brooding neighbor defies the rules and takes her into the safety of his arms.

He should frighten her, but everything inside Abby thrills at Luc Stanek’s rough manners and shockingly gentle touch. He excites her, ignites her, leaves her shaken and wanting more. But evil men follow in her footsteps, and it may take more than one fierce beauty to defend her loving beast.

  • Friday Night Brides

Friday Night Brides by Samantha Chase

Friday Night Brides by Samantha Chase is 99c! This contemporary romance is about four friends who are all either finding love or trying to maintain it. Readers loved the female friendships, while others wished for a singular romance rather than following multiple characters.

    Four women.
    Twenty years.
    Five hundred bridal fashion shows.

They’ve been friends since they were five, and modeling for Enchanted Bridal has been as much of a part of their lives as their friendship has. And this season has them seeing more than new wedding trends.

Hailey’s family owns Enchanted Bridal and she knows there’s a possibility that someday it will be hers. She’s not sure that’s the path she wants to take, but she does know that she’s been hopelessly crushing on the perfect man and bridal show model Logan Baxter III. While failing to gain Logan’s attention, she can’t seem to get rid of the less-than-perfect man – and model – Jackson Carr. He’s big and bold and tattooed – pretty much everything Hailey despises. And yet…there’s something about him that has Hailey questioning her definition of perfect.

Becca’s got a knack for dating the wrong kind of guys. When her current boyfriend publicly dumps and humiliates her, she’s devastated. Wanting to run and hide, she’s mortified that the stranger who had witnessed the entire scene is now part of the Enchanted Bridal family. But when Max Abrams offers her comfort and tells her that he thinks she’s beautiful, she has to wonder if maybe getting dumped by Mr. Wrong has finally led her to her very own Mr. Right.

Angie’s loud and feisty and completely fearless. That is until she gets dumped by the one guy she really had feeling for. It opens her up to insecurities she didn’t know she had and she’s not sure what to do about it. But when Sean Patterson comes back into her life in a big way, she’s not sure she’s ready to forgive and forget quite so easily. His persistence and her stubbornness make for an exciting chase, however, but at the end of the season, it’s ultimately up to her if she’s ready to quit running.

Ella’s been planning her perfect wedding to Dylan Graham since she was twelve. Together for thirteen years, Ella’s beginning to wonder if that number really is bad luck. She can’t focus on all that’s right in her life because all she can think about is what she may be missing. Their parents have taken over their wedding, her friends all seem to be in crisis and Dylan’s just not listening to her fears. Not one to ever make waves, she suddenly finds that that’s exactly what she’s doing and turning everyone’s life upside down in the process. The life that she once considered boring is now the one she longs for, but it may be too late.

    Four friends.
    Four crossroads.
Four possibilities for happily ever after

  • Fair Game

    Fair Game by Monica Murphy

Fair Game by Monica Murphy is 99c at Amazon! But it’s FREE elsewhere it seems. This book does seem to require some suspension of disbelief, given that it’s a contemporary romance where a guy bets his girlfriend in a poker game. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.

Bad enough Jade Frost’s boyfriend drags her to a boring poker game. Even worse that he actually threw her into the betting pot during an intense round…and lost. Talk about the perfect excuse for Jade to make him her ex-boyfriend.

Now she supposedly belongs to the ultra rich, extremely gorgeous Shep Prescott. He could have anything he wants yet he seems to be in hot pursuit of her. No matter how rude, how snarky, how impossible she acts, it doesn’t stop him. More like her horrible behavior seems to make him want her more.

When she finds herself starting to fall for him, Jade’s confused. There’s more to Shep than the carefree rich charmer he portrays. No way could he want a serious relationship with her…or could he?

  • Jack of Hearts

Jack of Hearts by Sandra Owens

Jack of Hearts by Sandra Owens is $1.99 at Amazon! There’s no cliffhanger in this one, but the second book in this series is also on sale for $1.99. Some readers found the premise a little farfetched, while others said this was a great intro to a new-to-them author. It has an impressive 4.2-star rating on Goodreads.

Alex Gentry doesn’t scare easily. Working as an undercover FBI agent in the biker bar he and his brothers co-own, he hangs with deadly criminals in order to gather information. Danger is just part of the family business. But one thing has him terrified: his attraction to Madison Parker.

Madison is the cousin of Ramon Alonzo, son and second in command to a notorious drug lord Alex is trying to bust. Alex has befriended Ramon as part of his cover, and Madison has unknowingly become his informant. Falling for her could risk this case—and both their lives.

All Madison wants is to get her new bookstore business off the ground, and for her creepy cousin Ramon—to whom she’s unfortunately indebted—to leave her alone. If she could only stop fantasizing about his mysterious new friend, Alex…

As the Alonzo cartel investigation heats up, so does their relationship. But will the secrets they’re keeping tear them apart—or get them both killed?

  1. Alexandra says:

I one-clicked Friday Night Brides, and am hoping it will become another favorite comfort read and not be a pale imitation of Nora Roberts’ Bridal Quartet.

Also, word of warning about In His Hands. Anders writes beautifully, but in this book the heroine goes from an emotionally and physically abusive cult to sleeping with/falling in love with the hero. All of the books in that trilogy deal with severe instances of abuse and seem to focus on falling in love, rather than therapy and time, as great tools for helping with trauma.

***SPOILER*** In In His Hands the heroine literally runs from her cult into the hero’s arms. She runs away after a severe beating and what was essentially torture and begins sleeping with the hero shortly after (I’m talking hours/a couple days at most, not weeks or a few months). I feel like the book completely ignored/discounted the effects long term abuse and the psychological side effects of being raised in a strict, restrictive, conservative lifestyle. I couldn’t believe in a HEA for the couple at all.

  2. KellyM says:

I either own a shit load Kindle books or the same Kindle books keep going on sale. (Probably more of the former that results in the latter for me.)

I need to get a t-shirt made with towering stacks of romance books and below it “Shhh, don’t tell my husband about all my book boyfriends.”

  3. Rose says:

Picked up Jack of Hearts! I’m a sucker for bodyguard-trope heroes.

@Alexandra: I really enjoyed In His Hands, but I ran into the same issue you did–I loved the characters, they had great chemistry, and the writing was dark and sexy and lovely, but…

***SPOILER*** …the compressed time made the HEA so much less feasible. The heroine did relatively little growing outside of her relationship with the hero–she meets other people, gets a job, so on, but as it’s a romance, the progress and emotional depth of her character are inextricably tied to him. I like the intention of the author in framing the heroine’s ownership of her sexuality as a tool for her recovery, but I agree that given the extreme trauma she suffered, her rapid transition to happy-in-love did not feel particularly believable.

  4. EllenM says:

FYI: If The Earl Only Knew by Amanda Forester is currently free! First in the “daring marriages” series.

  5. Quidnunc says:

In my imagination, Fair Game is a pretty short book. When the poker game ends she turns to the guy that “won” her and asks “you know I’m not chattel, right?” He says yes and says he’d love it if she would agree to go a date with him. She says yes and they begin a happy and mature relationship. The end. The blurb does not seem to go that way.

  6. Dani says:

I’ve tried Samantha Chase several times and cannot suffer through anymore twee Mary Jane heroines…nope.

  7. Anne says:

@alexandra “I one-clicked Friday Night Brides, and am hoping it will become another favorite comfort read and not be a pale imitation of Nora Roberts’ Bridal Quartet.” Literally this is exactly what it is. I was bummed.

  8. HollyS says:

I totally agree about “In His Hands” I loved the first two in the series but this one was a HUGE disappointment. The HEA made no sense to me and the escape from a cult seemed to have very little psychological effect on the heroine. Glad I got it in sale.
