A Mixed Bag with F/F Romance, Assassins, & More!

  • Nuts

    Nuts by Alice Clayton

Nuts by Alice Clayton is $1.99! And I’m really hoping this isn’t a “blink and you miss it” sale, since I feel like her books are rarely discounted. I personally love Clayton’s writing and it’s a great blend of humor and romance. I’ve started reading this one actually and I love the heroine, though I’ll admit the circumstances that send her back to her hometown are a little silly.

From New York Times bestselling author Alice Clayton, the first in a brand-new romance series telling the humorously sexy tale of Roxie, a private chef who gets a taste of love—but is it to stay, or to go?

After losing almost all of her clients in one fell swoop following an accident involving whipped cream, private chef to Hollywood’s elite Roxie Callahan gets a call from her flighty mother, saying she’s needed home in upstate New York to run the family diner. Once she’s back in the Hudson Valley, local organic farmer Leo delivers Roxie a lovely bunch of walnuts, and soon sparks—and clothing—begin to fly. Leo believes that everything worth doing is worth doing slowly…and how! But will Roxie stay upstate, or will the lure of West Coast redemption tempt her back to Tinseltown?

  • Silver Lining

    Silver Lining by Maggie Osborne

RECOMMENDED: Silver Lining by Maggie Osborne is $1.99! This is an American historical romance and we received an awesome email from Reader Holly, who says this book is in her top ten:

Osborne painted two characters at opposite ends of the social strata, yet neither was a caricature. The hero, Max McCord, wasn’t a snob. Although he was accustomed to a position at high social level for his community, his intended was the banker’s daughter and he had the money and the time to do some panning for gold prior to his wedding. Low-Down is exactly the opposite. She is independent, but not confident, and as unschooled as you can imagine a woman who goes by the name of Low Down. McCord’s mother was the voice of reason; his ex-fiance, a spoiled brat; and his brother, a faithful follower that gets caught up in the mess. The romance was a slow, slow build, and this book was, in my opinion, a character study of a man growing up and sorting through the superficial and the important in life’s big picture. There’s a kitchen floor sex scene that I still remember for being both sensual and heartbreaking.

Hailed as “one of the best writers in the business” by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, multi-award-winning author Maggie Osborne delivers hilarious and heartrending tales of resilient women full of grit, pride, and dignity who shine through hard times. Now meet the most irresistible and independent heroine of them all, a woman called Low Down, who never had anything good happen to her until the day she asked for the one thing that only a man could give her. . . .

As scruffy and rootless as the other prospectors searching for gold in the Rockies, Low Down wanted nothing in return for nursing a raggedy bunch through the pox. But when pressed to reveal her heart’s wish, she admits, “I want a baby.” Not a husband, not a forced marriage to the proud man who drew the scratched marble and became honor bound to marry her. To be sure, Max McCord was easy on the eyes, but he loved another woman and dreamed of a different life. Yet they agreed to a temporary marriage that could end only in disaster. But can this strange twist of fate lead to the silver lining that both have been searching for?

  • Skies of Fire

Skies of Fire by Zoë Archer

Skies of Fire by Zoe Archer is 99c at most places! This is book 1 in the Ether Chronicles series, which she and her husband, author Nico Rosso, wrote in alternating sequence. This book has a 3.5-star average on GoodReads, and readers who liked it say that it’s a good start to a series that gets better with each book. Amazon has also bundled the books into one handy place so you can nab the rest of the series on sale!

Captain Christopher Redmond has just one weakness: the alluring spy who loved and left him years before . . . when he was still just a man. Now he’s superhuman — a Man O’ War, made as part of the British Navy’s weapons program — and his responsibility is to protect the skies of Europe. If only he could forget Louisa Shaw.

Louisa, a British Naval Intelligence agent, has never left a job undone. But when her assignment is compromised, the one man who can help her complete her mission is also the only man ever to tempt her body and heart. As burning skies loom and passion ignites, Louisa and Christopher must slip behind enemy lines if they are to deliver a devastating strike against their foe . . . and still get out alive.

  • Circle of Desire

Circle of Desire by Carla Swafford

Circle of Desire by Carla Swafford is 99c at most places! This is an erotic romantic suspense with an assassin heroine. Some readers warn that there’s a bit of insta-lust, which didn’t seem to fit with the plot. While others thought that this was a great debut to the series and had plenty of action. Have you read this one?

As the top assassin at The Circle, a shadowy group of mercenaries, Olivia St. Vincent can hunt down anyone. She’s been trained since she was a teenager to kill without feeling, to interact with men without love. But when she’s kidnapped by the enigmatic leader of a rival organization, she learns she’s been lied to for years. She never worked for the good guys.

Collin Ryker believes the sultry woman he’s abducted knows more than she’s telling about The Circle and its plans for complete domination. Over time, as they work together, Olivia’s tenacity and vulnerability captivate him. But if he isn’t careful, Collin will fall into the biggest trap of all: caring for a woman who can betray him to his greatest enemy.

  • London Calling

    London Calling by Clare Lydon

London Calling by Clare Lydon is 99c at Amazon! This book was brought to our attention by Reader Kate. This is a F/F contemporary romance, which means that the 99c price tag is a big deal. Readers on Goodreads describe this as a cute, British rom com. However, others wished there was more balance in the central romance. It has a 3.6-star rating on Goodreads.

“When the plane took off, I wondered what Karen was doing, if she was happy, knew I was leaving or wanted me back. Whatever, it was too late now. I was gone…”

Jess Sharp is at a crossroads – back in London, living in her parents’ spare room, jobless and single. Not quite the irresistible package she was aiming for at age 32.

One night things take an upward turn when she meets someone who could be a game-changer. But everything in her riotously chaotic life seems to get in the way, including her best friend’s wedding, far too much tequila and the ghosts of girlfriends past. The course of true love has never been so injury-prone.

Will Jess eventually overcome her romantic ineptitude and find her happy ever after? Or will she continue to trip over her own feet in the race for romance?

I just finished Nuts and enjoyed it. Over-tge-top but sweet and funny. Is it Elyse who has a thibg fir farms/farmers because there’s a lot of descriptive passages related to farming. More than I was expecting, frankly.
