This HaBO request is from Johana, who is looking for contemporary sports romance:
We’ve been going crazy in a Facebook group trying to find details from a book, and it’s been a week and we still have no answer. One of the girls’ friend read it some time ago and here is what she remembers:
The hero was a professional athlete who liked full-figured women, but was afraid to tell people. He met a woman he was attracted to at a cafe and followed her to an apartment building that she and her family owned. She was also a famous author, I think. At a party she overheard some of the other women making fun of her and another player told her to ignore them.
We asked in Goodreads, too. No concrete answer either, except one person there remembered both scenes and added some details (and yet, still no title, author or cover description):
He was about to retire as an American footballer. She was Italian, an author, and she lived in Little Italy.
Honestly, it’s driving us insane. If any of you lovely ladies can help us out, we’d be super grateful!
This sounds like something I would buy immediately. Not sure how old or new this book is, but hopefully we can help this group out!
No help, but I just wanna say “Football Player Prefers Full-Figured Women” is a great title all on its own.
It sounds like some “Fatman & Robyn” from an EC anthology.
This came up when I looked, “Any Given Sundae”?

I have no idea what the book is but hooray for desiring full figured women.
This is ringing a bell, but I don’t know what it is. I hate that.
Not the book from this HABO, but if you’re looking for a professional sports hero who likes full figured women, Catherine Gayle’s In the Zone is a good one. The heroine has an endocrine disorder that caused her to quickly put on weight, which ruined her professional ballroom dancing career, and the hero is a professional hockey player.
There’s a whole series about 4 or 5 werewolf brothers who prefer full-figured women by V A Dodd but I don’t think any of them were football players. Cade is the first one.
I second the Catherine Gayle book, In the Zone (Portland Storm #5). While the premise of that other book sounds interesting, I don’t give money to EC anymore.
@Kim, what is EC, please?
EC is Ellora’s Cave. They do not treat there authors well and are suing Jane of Dear Author
Oh crap meant to say their authors.
I don’t know the title either but since I’m slacking on my Curvy Heroine challenge this year, I researched some of them. V.A. Dold though, Gloriamarie! I was frantically searching GR and couldn’t find it, but when I put it in Amazon the correct name came up. YAY!
Don’t know of any book like that but if we’re looking for a full figured (size 14) romance, I love Night Embrace by Sherrilyn Kenyon in the Dark Hunter series. He’s a definite alpha male and he loves her curves.
@TammyCat see it’s Vane from Night Play I love though Talon ranks high on the list.
The only full figured girl & athlete book I could come up with was Stephanie Evanovich’s THE SWEET SPOT. He’s a baseball player though and she owns a restaurant. There *may* be some spanking involved in their play….
RE @Olivia’s suggestion: I’ve read Marilyn Brant’s Any Given Sundae and it’s not the book described.
I third the Catherine Gayle book – that whole series (Portland Storm) is excellent.
Not sports-themed, but Meg Cabot has a series about a former teen pop star. First is Size 12 Is Not Fat. And didn’t SEP have a full-figured heroine in one of her football books? Been a while since I read them so going on vague memories, here.
The first Chicago Stars book, It Had to Be You is SEP with football hero and va va voom heroine. Not the HABO answer, but a delightful book. It got me hooked on trashy books, I love it with all the love. It should come with trigger warnings.
OMG, I’ve read this book. I don’t recall the title or who wrote it either. Going to make me nuts. I liked it and now I want to read it again.
@Kim, I also had to give up EC, and I’m super disappointed, loved their books. But after their newest website change and you had to provide receipts to have stuff loaded back onto your account (second time they’ve done this, and the email account I had most of these on, got wiped with no notice on my alum account).
In this day and age, I thought that was really crummy business practice. It’s been soo hard though, when I just want something quick and slightly raunchy…but also was easy to dump them because the new website change got rid of many of the filter options by subject/theme and now I can’t even find my cat nip themes anymore.
Although I do love Samantha Kane’s Brother in Arms series, so I’ll probably have to give in at some point and just buy those.
I know this one! I finally know one!
It’s Covering Kendall: A Love and Football novel.
I think this is the 3rd or 4th in the series and I enjoyed all of them 🙂
I just read Covering Kendall by Julie Brannagh a couple of weeks ago – it doesn’t match the description either 🙁
I’ve been on a sports romance kick lately, but unfortunately don’t think I’ve read the HaBO book.
Oh, one more recommendation, not the book listed, but very similar: Seduced by Stratton by Katy Regnery (English Bros series). Heroine is part of a big Italian family, teaches ballroom dance, and has body image issues due to her full figure. Hero is the epitome of a Beta hero: sweet, shy, genuine, and melts your heart. Not a sports romance, though definitely worth a read. Has some of the most romantic heart melting scenes of any book I’ve read.
@Nelle, You said you couldn’t find it on Goodreads. I guess that is because I gave the last name of the author as Dodd, instead of Dold.
