RITA®, and the RITA statuette are service marks of Romance Writers of America, Inc. Linsalot selected this book for the RITA® Reader Challenge, and she really liked everything about it.

Book CoverPlot Summary! Nurse Jenna Richards did not come all the way to Glenmore to fall head-over-heels for the first sexy doctor she saw. But what’s a single mum to do when devastatingly dreamy Dr Ryan McKinley has his eye on you, and the entire island community is mischievously matchmaking…?

And now, Linsalot’s review: I generally don’t choose books based on titles alone and I don’t read a lot of medical romance any more but I chose Dare She Date the Dreamy Doc? based purely on the title having such great alliteration.

The book is set on the Scottish Island of Glenmore which the author has written about before and includes past characters.  I have not read any of the previous books and did not feel left out or confused at all.  I liked the setting enough that I will definitely look for the previous books.

There are no big surprises in this story or in the characters.  Jenna and Ryan are characters whose stories and personalities are common in the world of romance and the path the story takes is typical from start to finish.  You could check off another two boxes in the typical romance category for Jenna’s daughter Lexi and the matchmaking town.

The strength in this book comes not from going outside the box but by staying inside and doing it oh so wonderfully.  The fact that I was familiar with the character types didn’t keep me from loving Jenna and Ryan and being invested in their lives. The fact that I could guess what was going to happen next didn’t stop me from rooting for their happy ending and feeling very satisfied when it happened.  This book is like comfort food, something you’ve had a hundred times before but is just as good, if not better, every time you eat it.

I loved this one too, and I’m glad it got an A.  Both the main characters were great, and the stroppy teenager was perfectly written (I don’t have one of my own, but this brought back vivid memories of being one – my poor mother). The matchmaking was also very funny.  Definitely get the other Glenmore books – it’s relatively rare in category romance to get continuity between books and recurring characters, but this series has that, with new people arriving as necessary for each book.

I bought this book a couple of months ago on the strength of a good review at DA. I really disliked it – it is a DNF for me. Jenna struck me as a wimpy divorcee with a personality about as appealing as a dishrag.

Ah well, it is very interesting how someone can love a book you really can’t stand – and the other way around.

  3. Put me down as another one who loved it. Exactly for the reasons you say, too. I think when Morgan is at her best, is when she uses the old tropes and reworks them.

  4. I haven’t read the book but I love the title.

Of coure, I’m a Grey’s Anatomy fan from way back (even wrote a book that’s a tribute to the show myself, although mine is set in a law school). This title makes Dr. McDreamy’s yummy scrubbled face right to mind.

Thanks for the morning pick-me-up! I needed it today…
