  • Falling into Bed with a Duke

Falling into Bed with a Duke by Lorraine Heath

RECOMMENDED: Falling into Bed with a Duke by Lorraine Heath is $1.99! This was Elyse’s first Heath book and she gave it a B+:

When I picked up this book, I wanted something that would pull me out of crappy day and the dead mouse smell that we couldn’t pinpoint in the office. So I took this book to the coffee shop, grabbed a cup of English breakfast, and proceeded to get lost in the Victorian Era. Falling Into Bed With a Duke is good like that–it’s a one-sitting book that draws you in because you’re so in love with the hero and heroine. The only reason this book didn’t get an A is because I was disappointed a bit by the end.

In the first in a dazzling new series, New York Times bestselling author Lorraine Heath introduces the Hellions of Havisham—three charismatic rogues destined to lose their hearts . . .

After six unsuccessful Seasons, Miss Minerva Dodger chooses spinsterhood over fortune-hungry suitors. But thanks to the Nightingale Club, she can at least enjoy one night of pleasure. At that notorious establishment, ladies don masks before choosing a lover. The sinfully handsome Duke of Ashebury is more than willing to satisfy the secretive lady’s desires—and draws Minerva into an exquisite, increasingly intimate affair.

A man of remarkable talents, Ashe soon deduces that his bedmate is the unconventional Miss Dodger. Intrigued by her wit and daring, he sets out to woo her in earnest. Yet Minerva refuses to trust him. How to court a woman he has already thoroughly seduced? And how to prove that the passion unleashed in darkness is only the beginning of a lifetime’s pleasure . . . ?

  • Only Enchanting

    Only Enchanting by Mary Balogh

Only Enchanting by Mary Balogh is $1.99! This is a historical romance in Balogh’s Survivors’ Club series, which Elyse has enjoyed, reviewing two of the books on the site. The series focuses on a group of veterans who survived the Napoleonic Wars, and this particular book features a marriage of convenience. A few readers complained of a slow start to the book, while others loved how the heroine helped with the hero post-war life. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

The Survivors’ Club: Six men and one woman, all wounded in the Napoleonic Wars, their friendship forged during their recovery at Penderris Hall in Cornwall. Now, in the fourth novel of the Survivors’ Club series, Flavian, Viscount Ponsonby, has left this refuge to find his own salvation—in the love of a most unsuspecting woman.…

Flavian, Viscount Ponsonby, was devastated by his fiancée’s desertion after his return home. Now the woman who broke his heart is back—and everyone is eager to revive their engagement. Except Flavian, who, in a panic, runs straight into the arms of a most sensible yet enchanting young woman.

Agnes Keeping has never been in love—and never wishes to be. But then she meets the charismatic Flavian, and suddenly Agnes falls so foolishly and so deeply that she agrees to his impetuous proposal of marriage.

When Agnes discovers that the proposal is only to avenge his former love, she’s determined to flee. But Flavian has no intention of letting his new bride go, especially now that he too has fallen so passionately and so unexpectedly in love.

  • The Duchess War

The Duchess War by Courtney Milan

RECOMMENDED: The Duchess War by Courtney Milan is FREE! This is a historical romance and the first book in Milan’s Brothers Sinister series. Carrie really enjoyed this book, giving it an A:

The Duchess War is lovely – smart, touching, funny, sexy, and dizzyingly romantic.  Read it right away – yes, now.  Everything on your to-do list can wait, believe me.

Miss Minerva Lane is a quiet, bespectacled wallflower, and she wants to keep it that way. After all, the last time she was the center of attention, it ended badly–so badly that she changed her name to escape her scandalous past. Wallflowers may not be the prettiest of blooms, but at least they don’t get trampled. So when a handsome duke comes to town, the last thing she wants is his attention.

But that is precisely what she gets.

Because Robert Blaisdell, the Duke of Clermont, is not fooled. When Minnie figures out what he’s up to, he realizes there is more to her than her spectacles and her quiet ways. And he’s determined to lay her every secret bare before she can discover his. But this time, one shy miss may prove to be more than his match…

  • Secrets in Scarlet

Secrets in Scarlet by Erica Monroe

Secrets in Scarlet by Erica Monroe is $2.99! This historical romance has a mystery at the heart of the plot and a heroine hiding her identity. Readers enjoyed the suspense aspects and say it can be read as a standalone, despite being the second book in a series. However, some felt the writing was a little uneven. Have you read this one?

When a girl is murdered at a factory in one of London’s rookeries, Sergeant Thaddeus Knight of the Metropolitan Police comes in to investigate. But it’s not just the factory owners that Thaddeus wants information on—the devilishly intriguing Poppy O’Reilly is a puzzle he’d like nothing more than to solve.

Protecting her young daughter is the most important thing to Poppy, and Thaddeus threatens the false identity she’s carefully constructed. The last thing she should do is allow Thaddeus close to her family, yet she can’t stay away from him. With danger around the corner, will the secrets of a scarlet woman lead to their undoing?

@genie: Well, boo! It was 99c as of this morning. Guess that was short-lived! Will edit and thanks for the catch!

  3. LauraL says:

I really liked Erica Monroe’s Rookery Rogues series. The last one, Beauty and the Rake, is my favorite. The suspense/mystery aspects are good and the main characters are not blue-blooded.

  4. L says:

I see Beryl Markham’s West With The Night is on sale and I’m kind of on the fence about whether I’d want to read this or not. It comes highly praised by Ernest Hemingway, but personally I don’t think Hemingway can write worth a damn so any praise from him makes me leery. Has anyone read WWTN? Should I give it a try or run far, far away?

  5. Mara says:

“Falling Into Bed with a Duke” was also my first Heath and I’d give it a B+/A- … worth $1.99, IMO

  6. Lora says:

Brothers Sinister is my FAVE series. The prequel novella and book 2 are my favorites. The Duchess War is my least favorite, in fact, because I had a problem with Min (ungrateful to aunts who raised her, fairly selfish) but loved Robert so it was still readable and a good intro to the series. Always love to see Milans on sale, great, great author. I so love that her heroines always have believable motivations and true agency. So now I kinda feel bad about bitching about TDW. So go buy it to mitigate my guilt, ‘kay?
