Molly Molloy & the Angel of Death
Molly Molloy & the Angel of Death by Maria Vale is $2.49! This is a Kindle Daily Deal, as are most of today’s featured sales. I highly suggest listening to the podcast we did with Maria on this book. She explains it well that this isn’t a romance per se.
Death needs a do-over.
Azrael—grim reaper and devourer of worlds–has messed up. Instead of taking Molly Molloy’s soul, he patted her on the back and saved her from choking on an atomic chicken wing.
Now she can see him. Talk to him. Touch him. Say ‘no’ to him. And make him question the assumptions he has held for an eternity.
Molly is sick of Death capsizing her life. He’d taken her parents, then her grandparents, then her first great love.
Now, just as she was on the verge of getting her life together with a job that paid enough and a NYC apartment that didn’t cost too much, Death interferes again in ways she could never have imagined.
The Powers that Be want Azrael to fix his mistake but before he can, Death makes one more.
He falls in love.

The Mask of Mirrors
RECOMMENDED: The Mask of Mirrors by M.A. Carrick is $2.99 and a KDD! M.A. Carrick is the name for the writing duo of Marie Brennan and Alyc Helms. Carrie wrote a Lightning Review of this one and gave it a B+:
Readers who like political scheming, fashion as a weapon and a tool, secrets, and swashbuckling will enjoy this, and as a special treat for Tarot fans the characters have their own form of cartomancy which is described in detail in the book.
The Mask of Mirrors is the unmissable start to the Rook & Rose trilogy, a dazzling and darkly magical fantasy adventure by Marie Brennan and Alyc Helms, writing together as M. A. Carrick.
Fortune favors the bold. Magic favors the liars.
Ren is a con artist who has come to the sparkling city of Nadežra with one goal: to trick her way into a noble house, securing her fortune and her sister’s future.
But as she’s drawn into the elite world of House Traementis, she realizes her masquerade is just one of many surrounding her. And as nightmare magic begins to weave its way through the City of Dreams, the poisonous feuds of its aristocrats and the shadowy dangers of its impoverished underbelly become tangled…with Ren at their heart.

Very Sincerely Yours
Very Sincerely Yours by Kerry Winfrey is $1.99! This one was mentioned on a previous Hide Your Wallet and I remember Sarah being interested in the epistolary elements. This is the only one of today’s sales that aren’t part of a today’s KDDs. Have you read this one?
A charming and heartwarming new romantic comedy by the acclaimed author of Waiting for Tom Hanks, Kerry Winfrey.
Teddy Phillips never thought she would still be spending every day surrounded by toys at almost thirty years old. But working at a vintage toy store is pretty much all she has going on in her life after being unceremoniously dumped by her longtime boyfriend. The one joy that she has kept is her not-so-guilty pleasure: Everett’s Place, a local children’s show hosted by Everett St. James, a man whom Teddy finds very soothing . . . and, okay, cute.
Teddy finds the courage to write to him, feeling slightly like one of the children who write to him on his show. He always gives sound advice and seems like he has everything figured out—and he pretty much does: Everett has a great support system, wonderful friends, and his dream job. But there is still that persistent feeling in the back of his mind that something is missing.
When a woman named Theodora starts writing to Everett, he is drawn to her honesty and vulnerability. They continue writing to each other, all the while living their lives without meeting. When their worlds collide, however, they must both let go of their fears and figure out what they truly want—and if the future they want includes each other.

All Consuming
All Consuming by Jaci Burton is $1.99 and a KDD! This is book three in the Brotherhood by Fire series, which is about firefighters. Catherine wrote a Lightning Review for this one and gave it a B:
All Consuming does not, perhaps, have the intensity that its name suggests. But it’s the kind of book you buy and keep around for a day when everything is terrible and you just can’t cope. It offers an escape into a kinder, gentler world, and sometimes, that’s the best kind of book in the world.
A sizzling new romance about a firefighter who reunites with an old flame and tries to rekindle the passion they once felt, by New York Times bestselling author Jaci Burton.
When firefighter Kal Donovan transfers to the Tactical Rescue Team, he’s determined to succeed by giving work one hundred percent of his attention. This proves more difficult at his ten-year high school reunion when he runs into Hannah Clark, his first love. She’s still the smart, funny, beautiful girl he loved in high school, but everything has changed. She’s divorced, has a son, and has zero interest in exploring an old romance.
Hannah has moved back home after a disastrous end to a marriage that never should have been. Now her only focus is getting her hair salon up and running, and making sure her son is happy. She doesn’t have time for love–especially not with Kal. She intends to look forward, not backward, and Kal is most definitely part of her past.
However as Hannah and Kal start spending time together, Hannah realizes that what she’s feeling for him isn’t nostalgia, but red-hot attraction. Kal’s intent on showing her what it’s like to be cared for, romanced, and consumed with passion–and Hannah loves it. But she wonders if she has the courage to risk her heart again, even as Kal vows not to lose her a second time.

The Mask of Mirrors is an excellent book, and the series only gets better as it continues. It 100% nailed the ending. It is a completely fully realized and fleshed out world and it feels really lived in. It is the kind of book that I want to hand to EVERYONE I know who likes fantasy. I am hoping they write more in this universe.
The Lightning Review says that there are no romantic relationships or happy couples in this book. Those evolve over the series. If you think of this trilogy as one extremely huge novel, then this first book has the beginnings of some romances (like you’d get in the first third of a romance novel) that continue to evolve throughout the series.
Thanks for the “warning” on Molly Malloy! The blurb really caught me. I looked deeper into the content (as well as the podcast) and decided to pass. Others should not be discouraged though, I’m just not a romantic book reader; I want my full on HEA, or at least a solid HFN with long-term implications.
Okay, but how does one confuse nostalgia with red hot attraction?? Because to me those are two very different things..
I really liked Molly Molloy and felt it ended the right way. Don’t ask me for details, but I did appreciate the struggles for both characters, how they hung on.
$1.99:
– Hard Hitter (A Brooklyn Bruisers Novel Book 2) by Sarina Bowen
– Through the Storm (Le Veq Family 1) by Beverly Jenkins
– A Warriner to Seduce Her (The Wild Warriners Book 4) by Virginia Heath
– Immortal Rider (Four Horsemen Book 2) by Larissa Ione
– Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune
I ultimately didn’t like WAITING FOR TOM HANKS (because of female main character and some unfortunate boundary issues), but did quite enjoy the follow-up, NOT LIKE THE MOVIES. Will have to check out VERY SINCERELY YOURS!
Seconding taffygirl’s recommendation for The Mask of Mirrors and sequels!
I’m another who enjoyed Molly Molloy & the Angel of Death.
