Take the Lead
PODCAST RECOMMENDED: Take the Lead by Alexis Daria is $2.99! This is a contemporary romance that takes place on a dancing competition TV show. There’s also a gruff hero! If those things haven’t convinced you yet, Sonali Dev also recommended it on a previous podcast episode. This one has a new cover and new ISBN, which not sure what that means if you bought the old edition. Does it just disappear from your Kindle?
From Alexis Daria, author of the critically acclaimed, international bestseller You Had Me at Hola, comes a fun, sexy romance set against a reality dance show.
Gina Morales wants to make it big. In her four seasons on The Dance Off, she’s never even made it to the finals. But her latest partner, the sexy star of an Alaskan wilderness show, could be her chance. Who knew the strong, silent, survivalist-type had moves like that? She thinks Stone Nielson is her ticket to win it all—until her producer makes it clear they’re being set up for a showmance.
Joining a celebrity dance competition is the last thing Stone wants. However, he’ll endure anything to help his family, even as he fears revealing their secrets. While the fast pace of Los Angeles makes him long for the peace and privacy of home, he can’t hide his growing attraction for his dance partner. Neither wants to fake a romance for the cameras, but the explosive chemistry that flares between them is undeniable.
As Stone and Gina heat up the dance floor, the tabloids catch on to their developing romance. With the spotlight threatening to ruin everything, will they choose fame and fortune, or let love take the lead?

The Jasmine Throne
The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri is $2.99! This is Suri’s latest series and many of us were big fans of her debut fantasy romance Empire of Sand. I’m hoping this has the same balance of fantasy and romance.
Author of Empire of Sand and Realm of Ash Tasha Suri’s The Jasmine Throne, beginning a new trilogy set in a world inspired by the history and epics of India, in which a captive princess and a maidservant in possession of forbidden magic become unlikely allies on a dark journey to save their empire from the princess’s traitor brother.
Imprisoned by her dictator brother, Malini spends her days in isolation in the Hirana: an ancient temple that was once the source of the powerful, magical deathless waters — but is now little more than a decaying ruin.
Priya is a maidservant, one among several who make the treacherous journey to the top of the Hirana every night to clean Malini’s chambers. She is happy to be an anonymous drudge, so long as it keeps anyone from guessing the dangerous secret she hides.
But when Malini accidentally bears witness to Priya’s true nature, their destinies become irrevocably tangled. One is a vengeful princess seeking to depose her brother from his throne. The other is a priestess seeking to find her family. Together, they will change the fate of an empire.

Not Your Ex’s Hexes
Not Your Ex’s Hexes by April Asher is $2.99! This is book two in the Supernatural Singles series and was mentioned on a previous Hide Your Wallet. Did any of you pick this one up or read book one?
In April Asher’s next Supernatural Singles novel, Not Your Ex’s Hexes, a one-night-stand between a willful witch and a broody half-demon conjures an adventure that wouldn’t be complete without several magical mishaps.
For her entire life, Rose Maxwell trained to become the next Prima on the Supernatural Council. Now that she’s stepped down, it’s time for this witch to focus on herself. And not think about her impulsive one-night stand with Damian Adams, a half-Demon Veterinarian who she can’t get out of her head. Neither of them is looking for a relationship. But when Rose is sentenced to community service at Damian’s animal sanctuary it becomes impossible for them to ignore their sparking attraction. A friends-with-benefits, no feelings, no strings arrangement works perfectly for them both.
After a sequence of dead-end jobs, it’s not until Rose tangos with two snarly demons that she thinks she’s finally found her path. However, this puts Damian back on the periphery of a world he thought he left behind. He doesn’t approve of Rose becoming a Hunter, but if there’s one thing he’s learned about the stubborn witch, it was telling her not to do something was one sure-fire way to make sure she did.
Working—and sleeping—together awakens feelings Damian never knew he had…and shouldn’t have. Because thanks to his ex’s hex, if he falls in love, he’ll not only lose his heart—but his humanity.

The Rom-Com Agenda
The Rom-Com Agenda by Jayne Denker is $2.99! This one has a friends to lovers, small town romance vibe. However, the description mentions taking care of a sick parent, so all the content warnings for that.
You know how the story’s supposed to go… but love makes its own plans.
STEP 1: Find yourself
Leah Keegan is used to being alone, especially after taking care of her sick foster mother for the past year. But now there’s nothing keeping her in the sweet town of Willow Cove. It’s time to move on. Again.
STEP 2: Win back the one who got away
Eli Masterson thought he and Victoria were meant to be together until she decided to jet off to Rome for a year. Eli is determined to win her back. But how?
STEP 3: Become a romantic hero
Changing Eli’s physical appearance is easy, but to turn Eli into the sophisticated-yet-vulnerable ideal man, his girl pals force him to watch classic rom-coms. And take notes.
STEP 4: Fall in love?
Inadvertently drawn into the makeover scheme, Leah ends up being Eli’s guide through the wild world of meet-cutes and grand gestures. Even though she believes Eli doesn’t need to change a thing about himself. Even though she just might be falling for Eli . . . and Eli falling for her.

I’ve mentioned this before but be forewarned that the society in THE JASMINE THRONE is deeply misogynistic and the ruler’s preferred way of dealing with dissent is to burn people (especially women) alive. This happens a LOT. I almost didn’t finish the book because it was hard to stomach. I was strongly tempted by the sequel from a plot perspective but haven’t been able to gear myself up for a similar level of violence.
Sarah Monette/Katherine Addison’s 4 book series the Doctrine of Labyrinths is on sale today only, apparently at most ebook retailers. Loved the Goblin Emperor series!
No. A new edition, and ISBN, doesn’t cause the old version to disappear. I do expect authors to mention it in the blurb, mind
I loved TAKE THE LEAD! It’s my favorite of Alexis Daria’s books, actually. The world building (because a reality show is never real, right?) is great. It really leans into the nuttiness and falseness of the “reality” in reality shows. Everyone has reasons for being on the show that have nothing to do with dancing. The producers of the show want drama more than they want great dancing. This is the world the MCs must navigate. And navigate it they do, while grappling with the ethics of what they are doing, their obligations to family, their efforts to avoid stereotypes, and with their increasing attraction to each other. And did I mention that their chemistry is great? Highly recommend.
There’s a great bunch of free MM contemporaries at the link here; not sure how long it’s going to last (although I got the email about it this morning so at least a day or more): https://click.mlsend.com/link/c/YT0yMjgyNzIzMTkwMTQyNjY5OTE3JmM9aTRxMiZlPTE5MjgmYj0xMTkwMTQzMDczJmQ9YTVyMmw4aw==.CDQVH7WIuWy0rhwPKmWPiBOAiJ48TpPicRSV9x2nxJM
Lily Morton’s The Sunny Side is there which I was excited by as it was one of my faves from KU last year. There’s also a Sarina Bowen, Lauren Blakely, and a few more!
One more I just got in an email: Talia Hibbert’s The Roommate Risk is free at a bunch of sites; here’s the Kindle link but pretty sure she said other outlets as well: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C5LMBJ6/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=nixonhouse-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B07C5LMBJ6&linkId=d078396a2f505806d048c206d91d664e
I already have this one and thought it’s an excellent friends to lovers; Hibbert really can’t do wrong.

NEVERMORE BOOKSTORE by Kerrigan Byrne & Cynthia St. Aubin is on sale for $0.99 on Amazon. It’s got a lot going on, but I loved it. The FMC has a chronic condition that causes pain and fatigue, which isn’t fixed by the magical peen. She has good days and bad days, and she’s learning that she gets to be cranky about the bad days, and that it’s not imposing on others when she is cranky. Similar to GET A LIFE, CHLOE BROWN, it actually felt like the authors understand what it’s like to live with a chronic health condition.
