Did You See the Season 2 Bridgerton Trailer?

Bridgerton Season 2 with Kate, Anthony and edwina standing with croquet mallets while winston peeks from below Kate's gownY’all.

I remember in December 2020, watching episode 2 and 3 of Bridgerton season 1 on the treadmill, running out of steam, and sitting down on the floor next to the treadmill to keep watching.

My son asked, “Mom, why are you watching your phone on the floor?”

“I got tired.”

I also remember the feeling of awe that, as I wrote in our discussion postthis is what it’s like when romance fiction is adapted for film with a truly opulent budget.

I know from my conversation with Julia Quinn that the series has been renewed for two more seasons, and I know many people are very excited for season 2, which arrives March 25 on Netflix.

Well.

Have you seen the season 2 trailer?

I have three thoughts:

  1. Few people can roll an R like Julie Andrews.
  2. I want to know all about the meeting in wardrobe where many, many fine white fabrics were drenched to see which one worked the best. (I’m also curious which specific fabric won the contest). What was that meeting like? Are there minutes? I’d like a wet fabric deep dive nerdy investigation please. Was it lawn? Muslin? Silk? Wait, a custom blend? I bet it was a custom woven fabric. I hope someone shares the details. (Fabric is fascinating, seriously.)
  3. Simone Ashley has outstanding skill with one eyebrow and a glare and I love it.

What about you? Are you looking forward to Bridgerton Part Deux, Wet Shirt Bugaloo?

I skipped season 1 but I am all in for season 2! I may have made an undignified noise at the pall mall scene in the trailer.

  2. I did not like Anthony at all in season 1 — he was such a jerk to Daphne, his mother, and the opera singer — so I will be interested to see if/how they make him less jerky/more likable in season 2.

Plus, I love corgis, so I am excited to see Newton’s antics. I can already tell that he’s going to be my favorite character. #corgisforthewin 🙂

  3. Escapeologist says:

Well now I have to go see this trailer.

(I didn’t watch season 1 beyond the first episode, too much hype and the leading couple didn’t work for me… but I do appreciate a fine wet fabric! Fiber is so interesting, ya know?)

  4. HeatherT says:

    Ooooo!!

  5. hng23 says:

    Sign me up!

  6. SB Sarah says:

@Jennifer I didn’t either! I found him so tiresome and wasn’t sure I was going to watch past season 1 because I wasn’t interested in him very much. This has changed my mind. Kate, Newton, and Edwina have changed my mind. The trailer did its job, apparently!

  7. LML says:

Did you notice that the portrait’s lip twitched?

  8. JoanneBB says:

I think everyone who has read the whole series has at least 1-2 that they are not as excited about, I liked Kate so I am looking forward to this – even though it looks different than the book (still so beautiful!). Dreading Benedict’s story, I found it boring BORING boring.

  9. EC Spurlock says:

I am SO looking forward to this! I once told Julia Quinn I would pay money just to hear Mrs Featherington say “He had his mouth on your bubbies”; looks like I am doing just that!

  10. marjorie says:

A wet white shirt reference AND a hand-flex reference! SOMEONE UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT!

(I was meh on season 1 —loved the diverse casting and the costumes, whether or not they were “accurate”; loved looking at pretty people; thought Phoebe Dyvenor was sadly not the strongest actress—and thought I’d skip this because no Jean-Rege Page. But this trailer piqued my interest! Thanks for the link. I just realized the actor who plays Anthony was the guy I saw in Company in London and he was fabulous, and folks who’ve worked with him seem to think he can do ANYTHING, so I’m curious to see what he does with a character I agree was pretty loathsome in the first season.)

  11. SB Sarah says:

@Marjorie: “Understood the assignment” indeed. I feel SPOKEN TO. Which is not how I usually feel watching television.

  12. Kelly says:

Oooooh there are so many things in here I want to talk about, like how do you have pall mall without Simon, but it appears we do.

It also felt like another storyline might be happening with this,…do you think it’s possible they might be changing who Collin has to protect Pen from, and making the Queen the antagonist that forces their marriage “for her protection”?

  13. Kris says:

My favourite couple from the series was always Penelope and Colin. But I loved season 1 and I’m definitely in for season 2.

  14. Minerva says:

I enjoyed Season 1 more than I expected. But my expectations were low since the Duke and I was never one of my favorites.

The Viscount who Loved Me was the first Bridgerton book I read and was always one of my favorites. I just reread it and I still love Kate and Anthony.

I am here for this season! Wet shirts, Corgis, Pall Mall

  15. marjorie says:

@SB Sarah: Also, chest hair. THANK YOU, CASTING GODS.

  16. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

Yes, definitely looking forward to Season 2. I noticed that the Duke of somewhere who was reluctant to get his wife pregnant but then changed his mind, was missing from the trailer. What happened to him?

  17. Jace says:

Anyone else worried they’re turning Kate and Edwina against each other for the drama? Kate and Edwina loving and respecting each other and having totally different love interests made the story memorable for me and it would disappoint me so much if they messed that up.

  18. Courtney M says:

OOOH. This finally may be the impetus I need to pick this series back up: I watched the first episode and never got around to watching the rest of season 1. The Duke and I is not my favorite Bridgerton book, and from the first ep. it seemed like they were taking away the things I DID like while leaving behind the elements I disliked. (I enjoyed that Daphne was older than your standard debutante and relatively popular, which all the inherent confidence that imbues, as well as her friendships with her brothers. I disliked the whole duel set-up, with Anthony being rather overbearing and a lot of Daphne’s choices there. And in the show, Daphne’s in her first season and ostracized because Anthony was an overprotective ass). It wasn’t so bad that I rage quit the show or anything, but it definitely didn’t make me enthusiastic about watching episode 2.

The Viscount Who Loved Me, on the other hand, is my favorite, so I’m very tempted to skip the rest of season 1 and just watch season 2, even though I’m very much a watch/read everything in order kind of person.

  19. Jodi says:

I am here for Kate’s overweight and opinionated corgi. LOL

Actually, Anthony and Kate’s book was one of my favourites in the series since Kate has such a wonderful personality.

  20. Susan/DC says:

Has no one mentioned the reference to Colin Firth and the wet shirt scene in the A&E Pride & Prejudice? Not in the book, but be still my beating heart and I, often a stickler for keeping to the original script, couldn’t care less. I’m happy to see Anthony and think of Mr. Darcy – it’s two for the price of one.

  21. Lisa F says:

    Whelp, this looks glorious!

  22. denise says:

I have seen Colin Firth’s white shirt in person and have photos! It was at the Folger Shakespeare Library in DC for the Will + Jane exhibit a few years back. The security guard admonished me after I had taken photos of the entire exhibit. Apparently, I wasn’t supposed to use my digital camera–I didn’t see a sign.

Colin’s shirt seemed like a thin gauzy cotton or linen? Definitely not silk.

  23. Heather M says:

I was somewhat cold on season one, just had a lot of issues that I couldn’t quite brush aside that kept adding up. But this trailer makes season 2 look worlds away better, which is interesting because Anthony was one of my issues with the last season. Now, the trailer’s job is 100% to sell the show, but I do hope it accurately represents the vibe we’re going to get. The main thing I got from this is *fun* and a playfulness that season 1 just didn’t have.

  24. cayenne says:

It is reassuring to know that at the Hot Pink Palace, I can openly admit that when I first watched the trailer – while in a public place, inconveniently – and saw it featured a Pall Mall game, I chanted “Mallet of Death! Mallet of Death!” out loud.

I know people here will understand and not give me embarrassing side-eye.

  25. Ellie says:

My daughter and I had an all caps text exchange while we watched the trailer. Kate and Anthony’s story is my favorite, and if they’d left out the pall mall game or the corgi I would have protested. My daughter and I also think Benedict’s story would be much less boring if they change his romantic interest to a guy.

  26. LMC says:

I still think they should have done two books per season. 8 episodes really felt padded to fill space. I do like this book the best, so I will watch, if just for the Pall Mall (even without Simon)

  27. Oliver says:

So so so so excited!! I also did not love season one – Daphne and Simon were *beautiful,* but they just didn’t seem to have much chemistry? At least to me. Anthony and Kate look like they might have both the banter and the chemistry to match.

  28. Sara says:

S1 disappointed me when they didn’t have Daphne and Simon busting into laughter at the end of their wedding ceremony.
