  • Gabriel’s Inferno

    Gabriel’s Inferno by Sylvain Reynard

Gabriel’s Inferno by Sylvain Reynard is $1.99! This is an erotica forbidden romance that was later made into a PassionFlix movie. I could never get into Reynard’s books. Are you a fan?

Enigmatic and sexy, Professor Gabriel Emerson is a well-respected Dante specialist by day, but by night he devotes himself to an uninhibited life of pleasure. He uses his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm to gratify his every whim, but is secretly tortured by his dark past and consumed by the profound belief that he is beyond all hope of redemption.

When the sweet and innocent Julia Mitchell enrolls as his graduate student, his attraction and mysterious connection to her not only jeopardizes his career, but sends him on a journey in which his past and his present collide.

An intriguing and sinful exploration of seduction, forbidden love, and redemption, Gabriel’s Inferno is a captivating and wildly passionate tale of one man’s escape from his own personal hell as he tries to earn the impossible—forgiveness and love.

  • The Radium Girls

The Radium Girls by Kate Moore

The Radium Girls by Kate Moore is $2.99! This nonfiction is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. This is mainly about the lives of women who worked in radium dial factories during WWI. I know this has been mentioned before on the site, though hasn’t been featured on sale.

The incredible true story of the women who fought America’s Undark danger

The Curies’ newly discovered element of radium makes gleaming headlines across the nation as the fresh face of beauty, and wonder drug of the medical community. From body lotion to tonic water, the popular new element shines bright in the otherwise dark years of the First World War.

Meanwhile, hundreds of girls toil amidst the glowing dust of the radium-dial factories. The glittering chemical covers their bodies from head to toe; they light up the night like industrious fireflies. With such a coveted job, these “shining girls” are the luckiest alive — until they begin to fall mysteriously ill.

But the factories that once offered golden opportunities are now ignoring all claims of the gruesome side effects, and the women’s cries of corruption. And as the fatal poison of the radium takes hold, the brave shining girls find themselves embroiled in one of the biggest scandals of America’s early 20th century, and in a groundbreaking battle for workers’ rights that will echo for centuries to come.

Written with a sparkling voice and breakneck pace, The Radium Girls fully illuminates the inspiring young women exposed to the “wonder” substance of radium, and their awe-inspiring strength in the face of almost impossible circumstances. Their courage and tenacity led to life-changing regulations, research into nuclear bombing, and ultimately saved hundreds of thousands of lives…

  • Dark Lover

    Dark Lover by J.R. Ward

Dark Lover by J.R. Ward is $2.99! This is the book–the very first one–that kicks of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I think it really exacerbated my reading frenzy into paranormal romance in the early 2000s. Does it age well? I have no idea, but I know for many readers it has a special place in their reading history.

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.

The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.

  • The Hanover Square Affair

The Hanover Square Affair by Ashley Gardner

The Hanover Square Affair by Ashley Gardner is FREE! Gardner also writes under the pen name Jennifer Ashley. Sarah both read and listened to this one and gave it a B overall.

    London, 1816.

Cavalry captain Gabriel Lacey returns to Regency London from the Napoleonic wars, burned out, fighting melancholia, his career ended. His interest is perked when he learns of a missing girl, possibly kidnapped by a prominent member of Parliament. Lacey’s search for the girl leads to the discovery of murder, corruption, and dealings with a leader of the underworld. He faces his own disorientation transitioning from a soldier’s life to the civilian world at the same time, redefining his role with his former commanding officer and making new friends–from the top of society to the street girls of Covent Garden.

  1. Kit says:

Hmm… Gabriel’s inferno, can’t remember what happened I read it so long ago, except there was a lot of angst and the sex scene was pretty cringey.

    Radium girls: highly recommend.

Dark lover: kind of has a so bad it’s good vibe about it. Loved every page of the book while I read it!

  2. Rhiannon K says:

Penny Reid pointed out on Instagram that the Beach Reads boxed set that includes her book Attraction, and also includes Chloe Liese’s Always Only You, which I’ve been wanting to read, is free right now.

  3. Blue says:

I remember reading Gabriel’s Inferno ages ago, and then being disappointed that it ended in a bit of a cliffhanger and there were one or two more angst-filled books in the series. I was at a point in life where I couldn’t read too much angst, so I never finished the series. I agree with Kit that the sex scene (and there was only one, I think, near the end) felt really cringey.

  4. Kareni says:

I’m another who read Gabriel’s Inferno and a sequel but never finished the series.

I can recommend The Hanover Square Affair and its numerous sequels; it’s an enjoyable series.

  5. Kit says:

@Blue it was definitely written when it was a trend to turn one book’s worth of material into a trilogy. Also the H was a single malt whisky drinker and kept telling the h a particular malt was too strong for her feminine tastebuds! This was both hilarious and insulting as a woman who likes the odd drop on occasion (and I like the malt mentioned).

  6. Blue says:

@Kit What I most remember about the hero is my constant desire to punch him in the face for being such a condescending dick. The story had this “he’s mean because he likes you” vibe that always makes me grit my teeth (but which may be total catnip for other readers).

  7. Bre says:

Gabriel’s Fire reminds me of a Twilight Fan Fiction I read one time.

  8. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Rhiannon K: I downloaded the Beach Reads Box Set. There were a couple of books in the set that I’d already read, but the other nine are new to me. I’m especially looking forward to Claire Kingsley’s BROKEN MILES, a second-chance romance involving a divorced couple, and Kate Stewart’s SOMEONE ELSE’S OCEAN—her work tends to be super-angsty, which I love. And the price is certainly right!

  9. Lisa F says:

    Picking up Radium Girls!

  10. Jordan says:

@Bre – Gabriel’s Inferno actually was Twilight fanfiction a la Fifty Shades! Actually, I think they were originally written right about the same time! I never read the rework, but the initial version was… a lot from what I’m remembering ha!

  11. Piper says:

HIGHLY recommend Radium Girls! It is an Occupational Health horror story. Even if you know the story (it made the rounds back when the book was published, I remember reading several articles), it is worth it for the voice Moore gives the women…for an added shudder, don’t miss the Epilogue and Postscript.
