I know, there’s still pumpkin spice everywhere, and Halloween candy everywhere else, but it’s time for me to start plotting our 2018 gift guides, and I want to invite your ideas! Let’s go shopping!
Each year, gosh, going back to 2011, I’ve shared gift ideas for you or the readerly people you love on a weekly basis. I cull items from the Nonstop Onslaught of Catalogs, from online stores I love, and from strange and unusual places, and collect them for our browsing and shopping pleasure. I know many of you look forward to them (thank you!) and I’ve already received some suggestions (thank you!).
So if you’ve got ideas or want to tell me about your nifty-keen gift plan, or about your personal Etsy Shop Of Wonderment, please email me! I love featuring all sorts of stores and researching different ideas for book lovers always yields some very fun holiday giving.
NB: most of the links in the Holiday Gift Guide posts are affiliate-coded, which means a portion of the purchase price is sent back to us as a commission, at no extra cost to you. If you do some of your shopping through our links, you help keep the site running, and we thank you extra lots!
Shall we get started?
First, a message from Sandy: I was looking for science-themed gifts for my nieces when I came across this recommended website. I don’t want to describe it to you. I just want you to click on it and be delighted!
Please enjoy: I Heart Guts.com.
I sent a plush uterus with ovaries to a friend who had a hysterectomy and the salpingo-part as well (which makes me think of Italian food, to be honest. Doesn’t Pasta Salpingo sound like something good to eat? I just made all the medically-fluent people really nauseated, I bet. Sorry). She loves it. It used to live on her couch, and I imagine it still does.
And if a plus organ isn’t a thing you need (and why not, I ask you), you can also get tshirts, hoodies, and other accessories at their Threadless Store, which I warn you is hella dangerous.
Stuff For My Vagina zipped pouch, $12-15
The rest of this week’s edition comes mostly from Amanda, who is slowly curating a truly incredible collection of original art that is fandom-centered. I love it. She’s provided me with a few links to some incredibly adorable things to look at.
First up: MarcoFriend watercolor prints. Amanda says, “If you like watercolor palates, here’s this shop. I’ve purchased some Disney prints as gifts for friends.”
Robin Hood Reward poster, ~$10
I think I have featured Winged World before, but illustrated library catalog cards would make a beautiful gift for any book lover, librarian, or friend. There are illustrations of classic literature, children’s books, and iconic fiction and authors, too.
The Secret Garden illustrated card, ~$12
The Hobbit illustrated card, ~$12 (whassap, Smaaaaaaaauuug?)
I’m really, really sorry for introducing you to Dirty Lola’s store. I have a feeling it will be the catnip of so many of you. As Amanda, puts it, “Dirty Lola blends vintage items and pop culture, and I love the Saint Dolly print.”
Other prints that might appeal?
Lily Munster print, $18 and up
Wednesday Addams print, $18 and up
And do not miss their enamel pin collection!
What about you? Any gifts you’re excited to give this year, or ideas you’d like to share? Please tell us!
These posters are great and giving me some ideas for my kids’ rooms.
I know this is really boring to some people, but I actually really love getting socks, scarves, hats, and gloves for Christmas. Mostly because I hate being cold and I lose/forget things. So extras go in my car, my totes, etc.
Also, I need something to replace my hot water bottle (rip) because I accidentally burned myself last year. Something I can snuggle with under the covers.
Also underwear and cool pajamas! I’m that boring “give me practical gifts” person. 😉 (And I want books, of course. but those are already on my wish list).
Don’t worry, us medically-fluent people are pretty hard to gross out.
If you prefer your organs in soft pastels, Sarah Andersen also has a uterus plushie in honor of the cheery demon that pops up in her comic periodically:

I am definitely not medically-fluent. If someone had gifted me with a plush uterus after my hysterectomy twenty-some years ago, I would have been devastated. Viva la generational differences.
Returning to the cheery Christmas theme …. For those I can get away with doing this, I have been buying gifts that are also donations to a good cause. So far, I’ve won some beautiful handmade earrings, artwork, and cute dog toys in online charity auctions benefiting dog rescue.
Love the Lily Munster
I so enjoy these posts every year. Please keep them coming!
On the poster theme – haven’t decided which of my friends is getting this yet, but I love these printed posters of seasonal foods! Kind of simple and elegant and also potentially useful/interesting. http://thisisya.com/seasonalposters/
@ merp – Those posters are gorgeous!
One of the items I am looking for this year is “teething” jewelry for a Mom to wear. I spotted some really generic necklaces at Target but I would like to wow my goddaughter.
While I will vomit in my mouth if I hear Christmas music this early, I do so love these posts.
These ideas are original and personal, and will come in handy. The danger with me is over- and uneven- gifting if I begin now. My old brain forgets, and I gift some more! One of the previous years you made me popular with the cool kids by suggesting handy chargers to go with wireless ear buds I had bought!
Thank you Sarah!
I’v been really enjoying my clothes from Svaha (svahausa) — comfy knit skirts and pants with nerdy patterns and also pockets. (They have dresses and cardigans, too, but I haven’t bought any of those.) It’s definitely worth checking the size charts, though.
I’m with Jill Q. Bring on jammies & socks. Also mittens and scarves and other comfy things.
For the folks looking for warm layers: check out Cuddl Duds — https://cuddlduds.com/
I *love* Cuddl Duds. They are supersoft and comfy, and they come in a variety of fabrics and prints. You can get them through the CD website, or through retailers like Kohl’s and JC Penney.
