  • Wonder Women

    Wonder Women by Sam Maggs

Wonder Women by Sam Maggs is $1.99! I was really taken by the adorable cover when I first saw it, and awesome women in history is definitely on brand for SBTB. There are over sixty women discussed in this book and many readers noted that they only heard of a small portion. The book does feature some illustrations, though, and I’m not sure how they’d translate digitally.

You may think you know women’s history pretty well, but have you ever heard of. . .

    – Alice Ball, the chemist who developed an effective treatment for leprosy—only to have the credit taken by a man?

    – Mary Sherman Morgan, the rocket scientist whose liquid fuel compounds blasted the first U.S. satellite into orbit?

    – Huang Daopo, the inventor whose weaving technology revolutionized textile production in China—centuries before the cotton gin?

Smart women have always been able to achieve amazing things, even when the odds were stacked against them. In Wonder Women, author Sam Maggs tells the stories of the brilliant, brainy, and totally rad women in history who broke barriers as scientists, engineers, mathematicians, adventurers, and inventors. Also included are interviews with real-life women in STEM careers, an extensive bibliography, and a guide to women-centric science and technology organizations—all to show the many ways the geeky girls of today can help build the future.

  • Tonight and Forever

Tonight and Forever by Brenda Jackson

Tonight and Forever by Brenda Jackson is 99c! This is the first book in the Madaris Family & Friends series. Though this book was originally published in 1995, it was re-released this January. Readers loved the fact that both the hero and heroine had been married before, though I’m not sure of the characters’ ages. However, other readers thought there were a lot of things the hero and heroine had to overcome. Content warning for an abusive relationship.

Readers love the Madaris Family! Meet the sexy Madaris men and the women who tame them, only from New York Times bestselling author Brenda Jackson.

The last thing a broken heart wants might be the one thing it needs…

After her marriage ends in bitter divorce, Lorren Jacobs returns to her roots in Texas to escape the trouble and heartbreak men cause, but then she meets physician Justin Madaris. Lorren has vowed never to give her heart to another man, but she can’t stop herself from responding to the handsome widower’s sexy, sensuous seduction…

Justin thought no woman could ever move him as deeply as his wife had. Until Lorren. She rekindles a desire he never believed he’d feel again. But sharing a life together means letting go of the past. Somehow, Justin and Lorren must fight through the painful memories to fulfill the passionate promise of tomorrow….

  • On Point

    On Point by Annabeth Albert

On Point by Annabeth Albert is 99c! This is the third book in the Out of Uniform series. It features a friends to lovers romance and a forced proximity element. I know many people love this series and Albert’s writing, but some readers felt the second half of the book didn’t live up to the amazing tension in the first half.

Never fall for your best friend…

Pushing thirty, with his reenlistment looming, decorated navy sniper Maddox Horvat is taking a long look at what he really wants in life. And what he wants is Ben Tovey. It isn’t smart, falling for his best friend and fellow SEAL, but ten years with Ben has forged a bond so intimate Maddox can’t ignore it. He needs Ben by his side forever—heart and soul.

Ben admits he likes what he’s seen—his friend’s full lower lip and the perfect muscles of his ass have proved distracting more than once. But Ben’s still reeling from a relationship gone to hell, and he’s not about to screw up his friendship with Maddox, too.

Until their next mission throws Ben and Maddox closer together than ever before, with only each other to depend on.

Now, in the lonely, desperate hours awaiting rescue, the real challenge—confronting themselves, their future and their desires—begins. Man to man, friend to friend, lover to lover.

  • Mad Morelands: Volume 1

Mad Morelands: Volume 1 by Candace Camp

Mad Morelands: Volume 1 by Candace Camp is $1.99! This boxed set collects books one through three in the Mad Morelands series, and all of them are full-length. There don’t seem to be many reviews for the set as a whole, but the books separately average a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads. Have you read any of these?

The first three Mad Morelands novels by New York Times bestselling author Candace Camp, collected here!

MESMERIZED: Olivia Moreland prides herself on discrediting charlatans, particularly the false mediums that flock to London. But when Lord Stephen St. Leger requests her help in investigating an alleged psychic’s claims, she can’t deny the ominous feeling she has within the walls of his ancient estate—or the intimately familiar connection she has with Stephen himself.

BEYOND COMPARE: Though Kyria Moreland is beautiful enough to earn the sobriquet “The Goddess” and rich enough to attract London’s most sought after gentlemen, she has yet to find love and refuses to marry without it. When she receives a strange package under mysterious circumstances, she is confronted with danger, murder and a handsome American whose destiny is entwined with hers….

WINTERSET: Ever since Anna Holcombe inexplicably refused his proposal, Reed Moreland has been unable to set foot in the home that was the backdrop to their romance—Winterset. When Reed begins having troubling dreams about Anna being in danger, the two are drawn back together, and old passions flare.

  1. Trix says:

The content of WONDER WOMEN is awesome (I was ashamed at how few of the stories I knew), and it’s cool that there’s advice interspersed from modern STEM women on how to break in the field. The writing style got in the way a lot of the time, though…it was like Maggs didn’t trust a young audience to think these stories were interesting, so she kept punching it up with a lot of snarky asides and really self-conscious attempts to be “with-it.” It undercut everything for me.

  2. Callalily says:

I just bought On Point. I loved one of the other books in the series (reviewed it here), and this one looks really good, too.

  3. MrsObedMarsh says:

@Trix: I agree with you! Wonder Women reads like a clickbait article – I feel like if Sam Maggs could have somehow inserted reaction gifs into a print book, she would have put them in her book. It’s very distracting!

  4. Nicolette says:

I’d like to see a kindle in motion book for Wonder Women or another book with those themes in that form.

Right now, I’m working on a reading list for my goodreads profile and I’m trying to figure out how to order Crystal Fleming’s upcoming book.
