Books on Sale: Avon Historical Romances

Book ROmancing the Duke

RECOMMENDED: Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare is $1.99! This is the first book in the Castles Ever After historical romance series and is a relatively new release. It came out earlier this year. Readers loved the quirky heroine, though some warn to keep an open mind because the story could get a little silly at times. It currently has 4-star rating on GR. Sarah reviewed it and gave it a B+:

I think this is a truly unique historical that will appeal to readers who aren't often historical fans. This story captures both a distant time period, and the present day, reflecting it in the characters – with a story and a parallel set of references beside it that grow together until the meaning of both is intertwined and layered into something I haven't read before. This is a romance that is also a little bit about the community around romance, and all the many, many people who believe in it and have their fondness for it in common.

As the daughter of a famed author, Isolde Ophelia Goodnight grew up on tales of brave knights and fair maidens. She never doubted romance would be in her future, too. The storybooks offered endless possibilities.

And as she grew older, Izzy crossed them off. One by one by one.

Ugly duckling turned swan?
Abducted by handsome highwayman?
Rescued from drudgery by charming prince?

No, no, and… Heh.

Now Izzy’s given up yearning for romance. She’ll settle for a roof over her head. What fairy tales are left over for an impoverished twenty-six year-old woman who’s never even been kissed?

This one.

Book How to Lose a Duke in Ten Days

How to Lose a Duke in Ten Days by Laura Lee Guhrke is $1.99! This historical romance is the second book in An American Heiress in London series. Big thanks to Heather S for finding this deal and the next one! Featuring a marriage of convenience, our heroine only agrees to marry the hero because he'll be living his life out on another continent, until a near death experience brings him back home. Readers do give a trigger warning for rape and abuse, which divided many reviews. It has a 3.7-star rating on GR.

They had a deal…

From the moment she met the devil-may-care Duke of Margrave, Edie knew he could change her life. And when he agreed to her outrageous proposal of a marriage of convenience, she was transformed from ruined American heiress to English duchess. Five years later, she's delighted with their arrangement, especially since her husband is living on another continent.

Book Secrets of a Scoundrel

The Secrets of a Scoundrel by Gaelen Foley is $1.99! Seventh (Holy wow) in The Inferno Club series, this historical romance involves our heroine helping the hero sneak out of a Scottish dungeon. As you do. Readers loved the heroine, Virginia, and her smart and sly she was when dealing with the hero, and some say it has some Gothic elements (Calling Elyse!). However, some feel that certain plot points and relationship developments seemed far-fetched. Anyone read this series?

Nick, Lord Forrester, has a reputation that is legendary—both as a lethal warrior and a wicked lover. But when his rule-breaking ways land him in a Scottish dungeon, he's left there to rot, until a mysterious lady visits his cell and offers him a way out.

All he must do is risk his neck on the mission she proposes—and obey her every command. One look at the luscious beauty has Nick ready to promise her anything, but he must resist his desire, or she could send him straight back to prison.

Virginia, Lady Burke, is well aware that the powerful ex-spy will try to take command of their quest, but it's her job to keep him under control. Yet how can she keep this untamable scoundrel under her thumb when all she really wants is to unleash the smoldering passion between them?

Book The Ruin of a Rogue

The Ruin of a Rogue by Mirand Neville is $1.99! I want to mention that the hero's position on the cover really bothers me. It looks like his growth is stunted. And how long is that dress?! For a bit of a change, our hero is a bit of a gold digger attempted to get at the fortune of our shy heiress heroine. She soon realizes what he's up to and decides to play along. A few readers mentioned that the book is split into two parts, which many felt disjointed their reading. Others loved the interesting couple the hero and heroine made. This is the second book in The Wild Quartet series.

Charm, wit, and nerves of steel have helped Marcus Lithgow gamble his way across the Continent. But when his heart is at stake, all bets are off for this most perfect rogue…

It's been years since Marcus set foot in England—why toy with the ton when he can fleece wealthy fools in Paris and Rome? Yet everything changes when he inherits a ramshackle estate. Marcus's first and only chance at a respectable life needs funding . . . the kind Anne Brotherton can provide. Such a wallflower should be ripe for the picking. So why does Marcus feel like he's the one hanging by a thread?

Anne Brotherton is sick and tired of being an heiress. She cannot bring herself to marry a fortune hunter. Why can't men like her for her sharp mind and kind heart rather than her impressive dowry?

She nearly falls for Marcus's smooth seduction. But when Anne realizes she's being strung along, a lust for payback empowers her like never before. Two can play the game of deception. The game of love, however, has its own rules.

You did it this time Sarah! My wallet is officially broke. Thank you anyway, I’m not the resentful type. These were super great deals!

  2. Alexandra says:

Historical romances really need to stop being on sale now because I’m going through my yearly historical-romance-must-have-it-now-read-everything-phase and I just cannot keep up.

  3. Jan says:

Oh Amanda!  I absolutely adored Tessa Dare’s Romancing the Duke.  Everything about her books keeps getting better and better. She’s truly a talent.  *Sigh* Thanks for the update!

  4. SB Sarah says:

It’s such a wonderful book. I sigh like a doofy fool whenever I see the cover.

  5. Jan says:

Oh Sarah!  You just made me spit my coffee out.  May I use ‘doofy fool’ sometime?  I’m in love with that!!

I agree about the cover-it’s perfect for the story and one of the best dresses ever in my opinion.

  6. JacquiC says:

Sigh. None of these deals is available to readers north of the 49th parallel.  I should no longer be surprised by this.

On the subject of covers, I share the befuddlement at the Miranda Neville one.  Plus, is he wearing his boots in BED?  I can’t quite make out where they are, given all the cushions (or whatever they are) in the background…

  7. Amanda says:

@JacquiC: Like he’s straight up stomping on her ginormous dress. RUDE.
