Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: Historical Heroine Debunks Ghosts

This HaBO comes from Sarah, who is looking for a series: I read a series of books last summer that covers the romance of 5 or 6 siblings and I cannot remember the author. The siblings have both their parents and the mom is super into the suffragette movement and the dad is into history? Science? One of the sisters is already married at the beginning of the series. Anyway, the first novel starts with … Continue reading HaBO: Historical Heroine Debunks Ghosts

Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: Judith and the Head of Holofernes

This HaBO is from Nara, who is looking for this Regency romance: I read A LOT of Regencies and so I have no memory of the main characters, the basic plot, anything. What I do remember is that the male lead’s mother has filled the house with various paintings of Judith holding Holofernes’ head as a message to her husband. Please help, I have a friend who needs to read this! What a fucking boss … Continue reading HaBO: Judith and the Head of Holofernes

Race the Sands by Sarah Beth Durst

Race the Sands

The book gods have been kind to me lately, and Race the Sands by Sarah Beth Durst is no exception. It’s a strong, fast-paced fantasy standalone about two women involved in the world’s most dangerous competition (monster racing!!) who unwittingly get involved in imperial and religious intrigues while they try to take top prize. It’s a classic sports underdog narrative that morphs seamlessly into a burn-the-whole-world-down-to-save-it story. I found the combination of fantasy sports and … Continue reading Race the Sands by Sarah Beth Durst

Books on Sale: Rookie Move by Sarina Bowen & More

Rookie Move by Sarina Bowen is 99c! This is book one in the Brooklyn Bruisers series about a hockey team. Both Elyse and I have enjoyed books in this series, though I think we both agree that the second book, Hard Hitter is our favorite. Readers loved the second chance romance in this book, but found the pacing in the first half a bit slow.

Stuff We Like: Animal Crossing New Horizons

Featured image for Stuff We Like: Animal Crossing New Horizons

In this very odd time, many of us at SBTB HQ are finding solace in Animal Crossing New Horizons. What’s that, you ask? It’s a very soothing and wholesome game on the Nintendo Switch that focuses on island management and decoration. If you’ve played Stardew Valley, it’s akin to that, but with no romancing options or dungeons. Want to hear why we love the game so much? Click on over! We talk about our experiences with the … Continue reading Stuff We Like: Animal Crossing New Horizons

Lightning Reviews: Graphic Novels & Wales

Welcome to Lightning Reviews! If you’re new here, hello! This is where we run a trio of short, mini reviews of books when we can’t muster up more than a few hundred words. This time, we have two different graphic novels being reviewed by Carrie and a historical mystery series Sarah can’t stop talking about!

Caption That Cover: Guess That Photoshop

A woman with not great makeup stands in front of hot pink fire. Her hand is curled in the middle of her chest.

We have another caption contest for you all! But first, big thank you to Carole, who always keeps us stocked and supplied with Cover Snark and Caption Contest entries. Did you know she has an entire folder dedicated to covers that need snarking? It’s definitely a little uncanny valley. Maybe it’s because of the very bright concealer beneath the eyes. I’m also suspicious of her hand. Was there something in it that was removed? And … Continue reading Caption That Cover: Guess That Photoshop

Glass Town by Isabel Greenberg

Glass Town

Glass Town is an enchanting graphic novel that has, in professional terms, “weird but effective art.” That’s the kind of lofty professional assessment that gets me the big bucks, folks. Glass Town is about the imaginary worlds that the Bronte siblings created. While I was initially put off by the art, it grew on me, and the plot enchanted me from the first page. In real life and as described in Glass Town, young Charlotte … Continue reading Glass Town by Isabel Greenberg
