464. Guilty Pleasures with Dr. Arielle Zibrak
Arielle Zibrak is the author of Guilty Pleasures, a new book in the Avidly Reads series from New York University Press. She’s also a former editor of romance fiction, and a professor of 19th century popular fiction. Her new book – which is terrific – examines the concept of the “guilty pleasures” and seeks to unpack and answer the question, “What is it about ribald romance novels, luxurious interior design, and frothy wedding dresses that … Continue reading 464. The Rec League: Madmartigan & Sorsha

I love when we get rather niche requests and this one was right up my alley! Thanks to Tanya for sending this in! I tried to use your bookfinder but I was looking for a very specific type of thing, not a title. I want Madmartigan and Sorsha energy in either a fantasy or fantasy romance, and I want sexy times included. Thoughts? I know Amanda might also have some suggestions. Didn’t know where else … Continue reading The Rec League: Madmartigan & Sorsha

It’s the last day of June! How’s everyone feeling? We have a heat wave right now in New England and it’s the pits. My cat Linus does not care for it and does whatever he can to cool his belly off. Fourth of July weekend is almost here. Do you all have any plans? I don’t think I do just yet. … A couple weeks ago, Twitter was exclaiming their love for pigeons and why … Continue reading Links: LeVar Burton, Pigeons, & More

RECOMMENDED: Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert is $1.99! Kiki really loved this one and gave it an A:
Get a Life, Chloe Brown saw my expectations’ proffered hand and kissed it gently, and then proceeded to charm their pants off. In a tent. With s’mores. (Not with s’mores, because s’mores apparently are not a thing in the UK.) This metaphor got away from me, but you get the idea. This book is outstanding.
Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–S17 E4: Why the Fuck is He Here Now?
We open with a shot of the New Mexico countryside which includes a couple of turkeys, and then Thomas running down a path. Better look out, Thomas. Turkeys are mean and also dumb, and I’ve seen them chase joggers. We cut back to the house where the other guys are talking about how much they dislike Thomas. He admitted he came on the show to be the next Bachelor and despite the fact that the … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–S17 E4: Why the Fuck is He Here Now?

Heartbreak Incorporated by Alex de Campi
Heartbreak Incorporated is kind of a bonkers book, and I love that about it. It commits pretty hard to its own premise of a sexy, mysterious man breaking up relationships for money while also maybe doing vigilante justice on the side, and the aspiring journalist who wants to uncover all of his secrets (in both a sexy way and a hard-boiled PI kind of way). Also, there are demons, and this book is very queer. … Continue reading Heartbreak Incorporated by Alex de Campi

HaBO: Hockey Manager Heroine
This HaBO is from Shawna, who wants to find a book we may have previously featured: This isn’t even one I’ve read yet, but one that I had wanted to and foolishly didn’t save! I’m almost certain that it was in a Rec League or on sale that I was introduced to on here fairly recently – maybe the last year or so – but I can’t remember enough details to search for it well. … Continue reading HaBO: Hockey Manager Heroine

Historical Romance and Kindle Daily Deals

RECOMMENDED: Wild Rain by Beverly Jenkins is $1.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. Catherine wrote a Lightning Review for this one and gave it a B+:
I enjoyed this story a lot. It contains many of the elements that feel like a traditional Western to me – scenes of blizzards and horse-breaking, confrontations in the local saloon, slick shysters from out East come to take advantage of the locals – but the central characters buck the stereotypes in numerous ways.
