Books on Sale: Burning Lamp by Amanda Quick & More

Burning Lamp by Amanda Quick is $1.99! This is the eighth book in The Arcane Society series and book two in the spin-off Dreamlight Trilogy, which makes me unsure if this can be read as a standalone. Let us know in the comments! Some readers felt the hero was too much of a jerk, while others loved the heroine and paranormal elements.

The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren

The Ones Who Got Away

If you’ve listened to our We Look Ahead to 2018 podcast episode, you might have heard me fumbling for words over how much I enjoyed The Ones Who Got Away. I want to issue a warning that the book focuses on the survivors of a school shooting. It’s a touchy subject to tackle, especially in romance, but it was also one of the main reasons why I picked up the book. However, if you’re sensitive … Continue reading The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren

Books on Sale: Burn Down the Night by Molly O'Keefe & More

RECOMMENDEDBurn Down the Night by M. O’Keefe is 99c! I really loved this book as it features an unapologetic, cranky, bisexual heroine. It was even recommended as part of author Bree Bridges tweet thread on angry heroines. Some readers recommend reading the previous two books in the series, as you get more of an introduction to the heroine as a secondary character. I agree with the assessment, but I was able to finish the book just fine without reading the first two.

Elyse Watches The Bachelor Episode 3: Uncomfortable Defense Mechanisms

Elyse Watches The Bachelor with Kraken Rum and Coke

Elyse is not watching this episode of The Bachelor. She’s on vacation sitting in one location alongside an immobile lizard long enough that she’s named him. He’s The Dude. He abides. When she said in the last recap that she wasn’t going to be around to do this week’s, my first thought was, Well, that’s too bad. Then, with all the graceful aplomb of someone utterly unqualified to fill her shoes, I thought, I could … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelor Episode 3: Uncomfortable Defense Mechanisms

HaBO: Younger Hero Saves Heroine from Sinking Boat

This HaBO comes from Amy, who is looking for a book from over two decades ago: I have a vague recollection of a book I read twenty-five years ago and would love some help figuring out what it is. It’s set in the 1800s in the Pacific Northwest. The story may have started with a woman traveling to/from San Francisco via boat. Possibly the boat sank and she was saved by a young man. She … Continue reading HaBO: Younger Hero Saves Heroine from Sinking Boat

Books on Sale: Dragon Actually by GA Aiken & More

Dragon Actually by G.A. Aiken is $1.99! This is the first book in the Dragon Kin series, which many praise for having kickass heroines. It also looks like the book has a new cover. I apparently read this book according to my Goodreads, but I remember next to nothing about it.

Book Review

#Starstruck by Sariah Wilson

#Starstruck

I was so, so excited to read #Starstruck by Sariah Wilson. The premise of a fan interacting with her favorite movie star on Twitter, and that interaction subsequently leading to a romance, is all of my catnips. I love private lives vs public selves stories. Unfortunately this book suffers from underdeveloped heroine, an offensive remark about homosexuality, a very misleading message about being sexually active and a poor understanding of feminism. The book pissed me off. Rant … Continue reading #Starstruck by Sariah Wilson
