The Rec League: Mentors

The Rec League - heart shaped chocolate resting on the edge of a very old book

Are you all ready to harness your collective powers for another Rec League? This request comes from Anna: This question was inspired by your recent Silver Fox Rec League. Could you recommend me some books where the hero is more mature and self-aware than the heroine, and comes to terms with his feelings far quicker than she does, teaching her something about herself in the process? This theme is my ultimate catnip, but I only … Continue reading The Rec League: Mentors

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.

Hi there, Wednesday! Today is a busy day for me as I’m picking up new glasses, buying booze for this week’s Covers & Cocktails, grabbing some groceries to make some slow cooker Mongolian beef, oh and I joined a gym. So I’ll be getting sweaty and awkward somewhere in that schedule. But I hope you all are having a productive day and if not, that’s totally okay! … I love Kickstarter so much. I’ve backed … Continue reading Links: Ursula Le Guin, Quantum Leap, & Maple Trees

Books on Sale: The Problem with Forever by Jennifer Armentrout & More

RITA READER RECOMMENDED: The Problem with Forever by Jennifer Armentrout is $2.99! This was nominated for a RITA last year and Reviewer Coco gave it an A-

I hadn’t read the book—as YA isn’t normally my happy place within the romance genre, despite the odd fact that I reviewed another YA RITA earlier this year—but I thought it’d be fun, and then life happened, and it didn’t go quite according to plan. Instead of a leisurely full seven days to read and write a simple review, I, of course, didn’t get the time to do it until two days ago. Luckily, reading it quickly wasn’t a problem as I was drawn into the story by the midpoint and raced to finish it.

Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: Contemporary Trilogy Set in Detroit

This HaBO is from Alex, who is looking for a particular series: My HaBO is a series of contemporaries, a trilogy maybe, about best friends who live in Detroit. Sugar House Bar is featured in at least one. I’m 90% sure I got at least one of them from Kindle Unlimited sometime last year. The heroine of the first book is young and owns a dance studio. Her apartment is broken into and the cop … Continue reading HaBO: Contemporary Trilogy Set in Detroit

Books on Sale: Jade City by Fonda Lee & More

Jade City by Fonda Lee is $2.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals and it’s being price-matched. I originally thought this was YA fantasy, but I think I’m wrong and it’s adult fantasy instead. It’s also incredibly violent, according to reviews. But readers loved the worldbuilding and threads of mythology weaved into the story. To be honest, the book sounds intense and awesome. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

HaBO: Heroine Goes Off the Grid & Maintains Cabins

This HaBO is from Deborah, who’s been searching for this book for a little while: I am in desperate need of help because I have been trying to find a book for a couple of years. The heroine became involved with the hero, who was in covert operations. He was angry and basically told her to leave. She did, but she also knew that she had to stay off the grid. He found her months … Continue reading HaBO: Heroine Goes Off the Grid & Maintains Cabins

Elyse Watches The Bachelor–Episode 4: Arie and Antihistamines

Elyse Watches The Bachelor with Kraken Rum and Coke

I’m back from a weeklong vacation and I’m not easing myself back into real life. Nope, my sunburn has reached that super itchy stage, my cat slept on my face last night so I can never leave him again ever, I drove home in an ice storm tonight, and I’m watching The Bachelor so you don’t have to. Last week Sarah and Amanda rolled fortitude saves to see if they could make it through two hours … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelor–Episode 4: Arie and Antihistamines

A Duke By Default by Alyssa Cole: Cover Reveal

The Ladies, including the newest lady, who has a blue polka dot dress and glasses and is black

Special treat for your Monday: a beautiful cover to look at, and a book to one-click pre-order if the cover makes you as giddy as it did all of us! (Side note: is “OCPO” a thing, where you’re pre-ordering with a one-click frenzy so intense you bruise your one-click finger? Would that be OCK-PO? I think OCPO should be a thing.) You may have noticed a general excitement online regarding A Princess in Theory . I … Continue reading A Duke By Default by Alyssa Cole: Cover Reveal

Books on Sale: A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness & More

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness is $1.99! This is the first book in the All Soul’s Trilogy. Many readers say this is a fantasy novel filled with romance and adventure. However, others didn’t like the characters and found the hype to be overrated. I know some of you loved this book, while others hated it, but I always love the discussion the Bitchery has in the comments.

Book Review

The Art of Running in Heels by Rachel Gibson

The Art of Running in Heels

I’ve been trying to branch out in my reading this year, and so despite not being a sports person I read The Art of Running in Heels by Rachel Gibson. For the most part I enjoyed it, but I couldn’t get past all the sexist and homophobic comments, especially those uttered by the heroine’s father (who is also the hero’s hockey coach). Trigger warning for quotes in this review that include misogynist, homophobic language. Here’s … Continue reading The Art of Running in Heels by Rachel Gibson

Girl Scout Cookies and Romance Novels: A 2018 Reading and Eating Guide

Thin Mints

Girl Scout cookie season is upon us! You may see Girl Scout troops outside supermarkets or in other locations selling from a booth. So far, we’ve seen troops set up outside grocery stores, outside drug stores, and in one brilliant move, outside a movie theatre. My local chapter likes to hangout in the subway station to catch you after a long day at the office. And…I think they accept credit cards now. If you’re not … Continue reading Girl Scout Cookies and Romance Novels: A 2018 Reading and Eating Guide
