December is here and that means our last batch of new releases before 2018 starts! For me, personally, it’s a surprisingly subdued batch of books. However, the rest of the Bitches have more than made up for it. Here are a couple more books due to come out this month: After the Wedding by Courtney Milan is supposed to be released this month. Unfortunately, buy links aren’t up quite yet. Kristen Ashley begins a new series … Continue reading December’s New Releases →

Amanda and I talk about the behind the scenes elements of running Smart Bitches, and what parts we love most of all. We discuss our favorite features and how some of them came to be. We also talk a little about how we organize our reading for SBTB and for other outlets (SPOILER: There are spreadsheets involved – and I’ll link to mine in the show notes) and how we schedule and track our reading … Continue reading 275. RECOMMENDED: Vicious by V.E. Schwab is $2.99! Though I have not read this, several of my friends (four to be exact, two of whom have rated it five starts on Goodreads) have and absolutely loved it. With rivalries, super powers, and experiments gone wrong, I’ve heard Vicious compared to being a literary comic book. It has a 4.2-star rating on Goodreads.

In light of the happy news this week of one Meghan Markle and one Prince Henry of Wales announcing their engagement (I’m so happy for those two!) we thought we’d bring you one or two thoughts on the Netflix original movie, A Christmas Prince. After all, tis the season and also the royal engagement makes this so very timely. And we’re not the only ones who have noted the arrival of this direct-to-Netflix original. Bea … Continue reading Movie Review: A Christmas Prince →
YOU GUYYYYYYYYS. Okay, so you know how sometimes the second book in series, especially when the first book was like AMAZEBALLS, can be a disappointment? THIS ISN’T ONE OF THOSE. This is one of those times where the second book is better than the first one. Our heroine is Marlie, a biracial woman with a complex background. Marlie’s mother is the local root woman, and Marlie has been learning at her knee. As explained by … Continue reading A Hope Divided by Alyssa Cole →
Ahoy, yon inbox of Smart Bitches! What appears on the horizon? Looks like a royal flotilla of rec requests, captain! Anka writes: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s engagement made me crave some well-written contemporary romances featuring lovesick princes and their kickass brides-to-be. Maybe you could recommend us some great reads focused on the Royals? Aarya writes: I would love to have a Rec League about royalty/prices/princesses in romance. I’m a shameless fan of the British … Continue reading Rec League: Yup, We’re Looking for Royal Romances! →
Hello there, Wednesday! How is everyone doing? Made it through the holiday, I hope! I had a great Thanksgiving and then promptly caught a stomach bug, effectively negating the food baby I so carefully made on Turkey Day. … I want to start with something serious first and then get to some more lighthearted things. Bust has been keeping an updated list of famous men accused of sexual harassment and assault SINCE the news regarding … Continue reading Links: GBBO, Gal Gadot, & More →

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor is $1.99! This is a scifi novella that comes highly recommended and one of the author’s previous works is being made into a series. However, some readers felt it didn’t live up to its hype. It also won a Nebula award for best novella. Did you read this one?

We are almost at the end of the year (which brings me mixed feelings to be honest. Or maybe mixed drinks about feelings). Either way, the END OF 2017 IS NEAR! And that means if you’re planning an end-of-year promotion, we can help! We do have some advertisement spaces available for December. We have bullet points about these options, in fact. But don’t worry, I won’t put them in a Powerpoint and print it out … Continue reading December Advertisement Options →
Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe is a modern day, gender-flipped tribute to Pride and Prejudice. In this version, Darcy is a woman who has made it big in hedge funds and lives in New York. When her mom has a (non-fatal) heart attack, Darcy returns to her hometown of Pemberley, Ohio, for the first time in eight years, where she reconnects with her adoring mom, judgmental dad, gay best friend Bingley, and childhood crush Luke, … Continue reading Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe by Melissa de la Cruz →
Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

This HaBO request is from Katy, who is looking for a historical romance: I am looking for a book that I read in the ’80s or possibly early ’90s. It was a historical, and the heroine was a bluestocking while the hero was a terribly spoiled rake. I remember one of the early scenes depicted the hero walking drunkenly through the streets after a night of debauchery, when a door to a townhouse opens and … Continue reading HaBO: Heroine Pushes Hero Down the Stairs →
