Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray is $1.99! This is a YA scifi novel and I’m enjoying the new cover! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, which also includes a Heyer romance. Readers loved the heroine and the pacing of the romance element. However, some expressed confusion with some of the plot.
When The Expanse first aired on the SyFy Channel (spell it correctly, you reprobates) Mr. Elyse was super excited because he was a fan of the books the show was based on. It took me a few episodes to get there, but this is now one of my favorite TV shows and I’m so excited for Season 3 to drop in April. The Expanse is a richly developed sci-fi world where political tensions have run high. … Continue reading Stuff You Should Be Watching: The Expanse→
We have a timely Spring-related Rec League request from Reader Jacquelyn: I was wondering if you could great spring romances, especially with a garden theme. A little witchy is great but since I largely prefer historical romance, I’m not looking for anything overwhelmingly supernatural (though I’m sure many others would love that, too). Amanda: GARDEN SPELLS GARDEN SPELLS GARDEN SPELLS! I wrote a Squee from the Keeper Shelf post on Garden Spells by Sarah Addison … Continue reading The Rec League: Gardening Romances→

A Summer for Scandal by Lydia San Andres is $1.99! This is a historical romance set in the Caribbean with a heroine hiding her writing identity. One promising review said the feeling between the hero and heroine is very much like Mr. Darcy and Lizzie, but some said the plot execution could have used some work. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.
After listening to Wanderlust by Lauren Blakely and fawning over it in a recent podcast (episode 292, in fact), we at SBTB HQ started discussing famous, recognizable voices in audiobooks. Sarah: Oh my god, Amanda. I listened to a sample of Richard Armitage reading Wanderlust. Jesus Christ. Amanda: RIGHT?! It’s a total ovary punch. Sarah: I think other people’s panties melted, too. JESUS, RICHARD Amanda: Has he spoken in French yet? Sarah: Yeah. Amanda: When Joy and Griffin … Continue reading Actors in Audiobooks→

This HaBO request was sent in from Leeann, who might be looking for a chick lit book over a straightforward romance: I am looking for a book I read in the late eighties or early nineties. It was more of a chick lit book than a romance. I remember one of the main characters name was Peach and I believe the author’s first name might have been Kate. Here are a couple details I’m less … Continue reading HaBO: Peach Loves the Color Peach→
The Highlander’s Princess Bride by Vanessa Kelly is $1.99! This is the third book in the Improper Princesses series and can be read as a standalone. Some readers noticed this book is inspired by Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, if that’s your jam. Others mentioned that the book is rather long and can feel like it at times.
This HaBO comes from Maya and it sounds like she’s trying to find a paranormal or fantasy historical: It’s been several years since I read this book, and what I remember most vividly is that the heroine has magical abilities. At the beginning of the novel she turns her house purple, and this gets her into trouble with the magical authority where she lives (somewhere in 19th century England I believe). The hero’s name is … Continue reading HaBO: Heroine Turns House Purple with Magic→
The Royal Treatment by Melanie Summers is 99c at Amazon! This is a contemporary royal romance with an enemies to lovers theme. If you’re looking for a romantic comedy, readers recommend this one. However, others wanted more conflict between the hero and heroine before falling in love. Also, content warning for suicide as part of backstory according to reviews.
