A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas is $2.99! This book and series is insanely popular and has Beauty and the Beast elements. However, some felt it didn’t live up to the hype or it had too much sexxxytimes for a YA-positioned book and feels more New Adult. I believe most of the books in the series are part of today’s KDD in anticipation of Maas’ new release.
I could’ve said something trite like TikTok changed my life, but why use platitudes when I can use the bald-faced truth: TikTok makes me feel less lonely. My need for human connection in the land of lockdown in South Africa has been met by social media. I originally joined TikTok because all of my students were obsessed with it. I assumed it would be all TikTok dances and teens, but being super nosy, I was … Continue reading How TikTok Makes Me Feel Less Lonely→
Meet Cute Club by Jack Harbon is $2.99 at Amazon! This is a M/M contemporary romance with two enemies joining forces to save one of the heroes’ romance book club. Readers loved Jordan, who unabashedly loves romance novels, but had difficulties with Rex.
This month in Kickass Women in History we salute Queen Nanny (also known as Granny or Grandy Nanny and Nanny of the Maroons) a hero of Jamaican history. Jamaica’s original inhabitants were the Arawak and Taino people. Upon Columbus’ landing in 1494, the island became the property of Spain and most of the Arawaks and Tainos were murdered or killed by disease. Spain “imported” African slaves, many of whom escaped during the violent transition from … Continue reading Kickass Women in History: Queen Nanny→
Welcome to February! This is where the winters in New England get gross and all the romance op-eds come out of the wood work. I will give the save advice I gave on a recent podcast episode and on my Twitter, just let it go. Do something infinitely more enjoyable than ranting about the ill informed writers who want to talk about romance for Valentine’s Day. ANYWAY! Let’s talk about what we’ve been reading lately! … Continue reading Whatcha Reading? February 2021 Edition, Part One→
Taming the Legend by Kat Latham is 99c! This is the fourth book in the London Legends series, which features rugby playing heroes. A few more of them are on sale. This one has a second chance romance, and the third book is also on sale. I enjoyed this series, but it’s been a hot minute since I’ve read it.
Very simple question with a lot of answers: What’s your favorite thing about reading romance? Sarah: I love the emotional security of reading romance: no matter how bad things get – and things can get hella bad – I trust that things will be okay in the end (and if it’s not okay, it’s not the end). A romance promises me a reassuring, safe space for my empathetic connection to the characters. Because I rest … Continue reading What’s your favorite thing about reading romance?→
Rose Lerner has a new Audible exclusive audiobook out this week, The Wife in the Attic. It’s a f/f retelling of Jane Eyre (I just heard a whole bunch of you one-click to buy) and fear not, the ebook will be released later this year. In this episode, Rose and I chat about the differences between Gothic and historical romances, and why (and when) Gothics surge in popularity. We also talk about the subgenre I’m … Continue reading 444. The Wife in the Attic: All Things Gothic and More with Rose Lerner→
RECOMMENDED: Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik is $1.99! This is a sci-fi romance and I absolutely loved it. You can read my A- here:
I am so incredibly happy that this book is in the world, especially after feeling like I’ve exhausted all my sci-fi romance options. Polaris Rising is exciting. It’s funny. It’s fan-fucking-tastic. My quibbles are minor in comparison to the joyful Good Book Noises I made while reading this.
Amanda has turned this month’s Soggy Bottoms over to me because I wanted to talk about murder. YES. MURDER. Like y’all, I’ve been doing a lot of baking in the past year. Baking is a lovely way to complete a project in a specific and manageable amount of time, with the delight of endorphins and serotonin at the end and something delicious to eat. Winner, winner, baked good for dinner! One of my favorite recipe discoveries was … Continue reading Soggy Bottoms: Murder Cookies For Murder Any Time→
