Time again for one of the most challenging recommendation features we have: READY, SET, GO! Here are the rules: We pick a specific sub-genre, trope, or type of romance, and we have to make ONE recommendation for that type. And no more than two sentences as to why. Just One. And our theme this month? PINING. Pining and yearning romance, please! Could be unrequited until it’s not, or could be secretly in love but hiding … Continue reading Ready Set Go: Pining and Yearning in Romance, Oh, My! →
Hi there! February is coming to an end. Are y’all ready? I know in New England, February tends to be the worst month for winter. It’s just icy and gross and I hate it. Also, I want to extend a big thank you to the Bitchery for interacting and being part of these Links posts every Wednesday. Sarah and I started this feature on a whim and it’s been really great to exchange cool internet … Continue reading Links: Ferrets, Kate Bush, & More →

RECOMMENDED: Death Below Stairs by Jennifer Ashley is $1.99! It was a previous book club pick and Sarah has great things to say about the series:
I love the whole series and it’s on my short (very short) list of books to give to friends who are grieving. Competence porn, women looking after one another, and a wonderful set of characters. And food porn too. High grade. Proceed with caution if hungry or do yourself a big gifty favor and read with snacks.

We open with a shot of two swans swimming across a pond which is appropriate because, as my husband put it, “Swans are bastards.” This is hometowns week, which is the week when the Bachelor meets the remaining four contestants’ families and one dad is obligated to ask him, “But how do you feel about my daughter compared to the other relationships.” This is the cringiest week. [Ed. note: I just cringed so hard.] If … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelor–S25 E8: Little Elise →
Content warning: Grief and loss, neglectful parents Love at First is a contemporary romance about community and healing from grief, and what makes a home and a family. The story centres around a block of apartments in Chicago, and its two newest residents. Nora inherited her apartment from her Nonna about a year ago, but having spent all her summers there as a child, she views it with the affection of a resident of more … Continue reading Love at First by Kate Clayborn →
Grey Dawn is an odd little book. It didn’t quite gel for me, but I admired its gumption. It’s always lovely to see an attempt to do something new with a story even if it doesn’t quite come together, and it had a lot of heart. The book takes place in two time periods, both in Philadelphia. In 1858, Chloë and Leigh met. In Chloë’s words: We were an unlikely pair: she, born in a … Continue reading Grey Dawn by Nyri A. RECOMMENDED: Bitterburn by Ann Aguirre is $2.99! This might just be the regular price, but I still wanted to include it considering it was Elyse’s favorite read of last year. She says, so far, this is her favorite Beauty & the Beast adaptation. High praise!

This HaBO comes from Hely, who wants to find this historical romance: I am an avid romance reader. I and a few of my fellow readers on Reddit can’t remember/don’t know the name of this book and will be truly grateful if y’all could help out. Here’s all we know and remember: It’s a historical romance. The hero is called Ned. He is a huge nerd, a physician, a Scot, and wears eyeglasses. He is … Continue reading HaBO: Nerdy Ned →
Confession time: I skip to the end within the first 10% of most books. (Please don’t yell at me. I’ve already been told by horrified friends that it’s a moral failing.) When I skipped to the end of Queen of Coin and Whispers, I was hit by one of the most compelling lines I’ve read in a long time: She loved me as I loved her, fierce as a bloodied blade. Does it give you … Continue reading Queen of Coin and Whispers by Helen Corcoran →

Need You Now by Nicole Helm is 99c! This is the first book in the Mile High Romance series. It’s a contemporary romance with opposites attract elements. If you like outdoorsy, Helm writes a lot of great ones. Readers seem divided on the hero. Some loved his grumpy nature, while others thought his grumpiness bordered on sad and rude.

Hey hey, it’s Cover Snark day! Amanda: I just imagine his friends: “Hey, bud. You okay? Wanna talk about it?” Elyse: Is he staring at his own penis and smiling? Claudia: I think he’s peeing and bothered by the other dudes hovering. Amanda: He’s pee shy. Sneezy: They look disconcertingly clone like. Susan: That guy in the seal cover has the look of “Can’t believe I spilled the ENTIRE bottle of water…” Shana: Pee-friend on … Continue reading Cover Snark: Moldy Beards & Radioactive Hair →
