Hey hey! It’s Wednesday! I am officially back in the States! Golly, it was so nice seeing my brother, but I’m also really glad I can sleep in my own bed again. I haven’t adjust to the time different just yet. I’m conked out by 9:30pm, which is unusual for me. Thank you all for keeping up with my travels! Also in typical cat fashion, Linus sat in my lap for less than 2 minutes … Continue reading Links: Ally Sheedy, Kelly Clarkson, & More →

Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson is $2.99! We’ve reviewed another one of Lawson’s books on the site and her writing comes highly recommended. Lawson has a knack for addressing tough subjects with an approachable, humorous voice. Are you a fan of Lawson’s blog? Have you read any of her books?

Wild Tongues Can’t Be Tamed by Saraciea J. Fennell (ed.) is tough for me to grade. As many of the other reviewers have mentioned in the past, anthologies can be a struggle to evaluate because invariably some stories are going to resonate more than others. But also I struggled because, despite being Latina, I did not feel like the target audience for this book. The primary aim of this anthology of essays is breaking down … Continue reading Wild Tongues Can’t Be Tamed edited by Saraciea J. Fennell →

This HaBO comes from Deb, who is hoping to find this book: From way, way back, I remember reading a book I’m sure was entitled, “The Spanish Woman” but can’t remember the author or find anything about the book online. I’m pretty sure it was set in England or Scotland, fairly modern day, e.g., 1970s? There was a reference to a hoof and mouth disease outbreak, one of which happened in 1967. The heroine is … Continue reading HaBO: The Spanish Woman →
Bluebird is science fiction that includes the following: a female protagonist, two love stories of which one is f/f and one f/m, a spaceship, smuggling, a bar fight, political intrigue, badass librarians, secret identities, found and biological family, rebellion, a heist, major angst, chase scenes, and jewelry. I could not one-click this thing fast enough, and presumably most of you will not actually read this review because you have also one-clicked and are already reading … Continue reading Bluebird by Ciel Pierlot →
We don’t often do cover reveals at SBTB, but when we got a load of the cover for Alisha Rai’s October release, Partners in Crime , we knew we had to share. I so very much enjoyed The Astronaut and the Star, a romance novel with ADHD representation, bisexual representation, and a lot of happy nerd things. It wasn’t a perfect book, but it was a fun romance with great characters. The problems with the book are easier to describe than the charm of the character interactions. Suffice to say that watching these people talk to each other and navigate various interactions was a treat. Reggie is … Continue reading The Astronaut and the Star by Jen Comfort →
