Welcome back to Cover Snark! From Susan: WHAT are they looking at??? Is it… is it… his PEEN????? Sarah: “You dropped your puck.” Whatever it is they’re both looking at it. Tara: The guy on the left looks like he’s about to say “I’ve told you already. I am not a doctor.” Sneezy: “Okay, but, does it look like I need to go see one? Do you think the colour’s weird?” Tara: Or, “Nice Line… … Continue reading Cover Snark: Great Reader Submissions →

Hello, everyone! It’s time to Get Rec’d! I feel like I’ve been getting more recommendations (or in search of!) lately than giving out, but that’s the way it works out sometimes. (Aside: if you have any sexy, rompy underrated historical romances with enemies or rivals, please send them my way. I’ve exhausted all the obvious choices and I want something more recently released.) There’s a couple non-fiction recommendations in this bunch, as well as some … Continue reading Get Rec’d with Amanda – Volume 45 →
Welcome back to Whatcha Reading! We’re wrapping up June with our second Whatcha Reading post of the month. Lara: After a string of DNFs, I’ve resorted to an author I can trust and so far it’s solid: The Last Close Call by Laura Griffin. Her work isn’t going to give me Good Book Noise but I can relax into this book and trust her to deliver a good story. Claudia: I just finished We Could … Continue reading Whatcha Reading? Yinka, Where is Your Huzband? by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn is $1.99! I mentioned this on a previous Get Rec’d. It’s a funny, women’s fiction and I’ve been using it as a gateway recommendation to get people closer and closer to reading romance.

Come As You Are: The New Science That Will Transform Your Sex Life is interesting and informative. It’s a solid Sex 101 book. I learned some new things from reading it and I got a better understanding of some things that I kinda sorta knew but didn’t fully understand. I also found it entertaining and accessible, and very body and sex positive. The book consists of the main text, which explains different concepts and elements … Continue reading Come As You Are by Emily Nagoski →

Melanie Hamrick is a former ballerina at the American Ballet Theatre and has just released her debut romance, First Position. So we are talking about ballet, and about balancing – both on your toes, and in career changes. We also cover how much writing and ballet have in common. We are talking about professional ballet, so there is some mention of disordered eating and extreme body consciousness. Music: purple-planet.com

Bet On It by Jodie Slaughter is $1.99! We mentioned this one in Hide Your Wallet. Definitely check trigger warnings as I remember lots of depictions of anxiety and PTSD. Slaughter handles them well, but they are central to the story!

I love a Mystery Knit Along (MKAL) and there are some great ones coming out this summer. For those of you who are unfamiliar, a MKAL is a project where you cast-on on a specified date, and the pattern is released in sections (usually once a week). You have a list of supplies you need ahead of time, but don’t actually know what the pattern will look like until you’ve finished knitting it. MKALs are … Continue reading Summer MKALs →
Welcome back to Wednesday Links! How was your weekend? My partner and I saw Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse. We loved it and are tempted to go see it again, but this time in IMAX. It was so much fun and wow, do I want to see Daniel Kaluuya play more fun roles. Have any of you watched it yet? It was also just a slow, lazy weekend. I abandoned all of my plans to be productive … Continue reading Links: Tattoos, Small Kitties, & More →

RECOMMENDED: Miss Aldridge Regrets by Louise Hare is $1.99! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this deal. Carrie reviewed this one and gave it a B:
Ultimately this mystery is weak on the actual mystery front. However, the description of an entertainer’s life in Soho and a passenger’s life on the Queen Mary is fascinating, and while Lena is an interesting person who always seems to be either doing or listening to or watching interesting things. On those levels, I really liked this book, and recommend it for fans of that time period.
