Wild Rain by Beverly Jenkins

Wild Rain

Content warning: Spring’s backstory contains abuse, including sexual exploitation, and Garrett is a former slave and child soldier. Both characters face racism, and this is a major plot point. Wild Rain is a lovely, tender romance between Spring, a horse-rancher living in Wyoming, and Garrett, a reporter for a Black newspaper who has travelled out West to interview Spring’s brother. Spring is independent, prickly, and extremely competent, and Garrett is charmed by her almost from … Continue reading Wild Rain by Beverly Jenkins

Tempest by Beverly Jenkins

Tempest

Tempest by Beverly Jenkins is a mail order bride historical romance that’s light on internal conflict but heavy on awesome heroines and world-building. If you want a romance that doesn’t have a ton of emotional angst, but does have a heroine who accidentally (kind of) shoots her intended the first time she meets him, this is all your catnip. It’s also the third book in the Old West series, but can easily be read as a … Continue reading Tempest by Beverly Jenkins

Books on Sale: The Magicians by Lev Grossman & More

The Magicians by Lev Grossman is $2.99! I haven’t read this book yet, but it comes highly recommended from several friends. It also is the most recommended book I’ve seen for people looking for what to read next after finishing the Harry Potter series. Though the protagonist is a senior high school, the book does contain themes of sex and drugs. Something to keep in mind for younger readers.

Books on Sale: The Duke of Dark Desires by Miranda Neville & More

RECOMMENDED: The Duke of Dark Desires by Miranda Neville is $1.99! This is the fourth and latest book in the Wild Quartet series. The earlier books also appear to be on sale. Elyse reviewed this and gave it an impressive A grade:

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. As far as historical romances go, it’s got a lot of everything good. The hero and heroine break stereotypes and are fully fleshed characters. There’s intrigue and eroticism aplenty. Just make sure you pace yourself and savor this one.

Books on Sale: In Your Dreams by Kristan Higgins & More

In Your Dreams by Kristan Higgins is $1.99! This is a wintry contemporary romance and I have to say that I just love this cover. It’s cute and cozy and I want that dog. This is the fourth book in the Blue Heron series and has the heroine taking the hero as her date to her ex-fiance’s wedding. Fans of the series love this latest installment, saying that the books just keep getting better. For some readers, the book felt too short, as did the romance. It has a 4-star rating on GR.

Books on Sale: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot & More

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot is $2.99! This originally started as a Kindle Daily Deal and so far, Barnes & Noble as match the price. Let’s hope a few others will join the fight! I believe Carrie has read the book and loved it; her recommendation was why I bought the book months and months ago. There seemed to be a few readers who felt the author inserted herself too much into the nonfiction narrative, but many enjoyed how the medical science in the book was written in such a relatable way. It has a 4-star rating on GR.
