Have you ever felt like a book was fighting with you? I had such a hard time with my innocent-seeming paperback copy of Lady Traveller’s that you would have thought it was one of the feisty books in the Terry Pratchett universe that have to be chained to the shelves. It wouldn’t lie flat. It kept worming its way under couch cushions and blankets. Every time I picked it up I dropped it, and every time … Continue reading The Lady Traveler’s Guide to Deception With an Unlikely Earl by Victoria Alexander→
It’s the first of the month, which means it’s the perfect time to discuss upcoming book releases! The Lady Travelers Guide to Scoundrels and Other Gentlemen by Victoria Alexander is $2.49! This is the first book in the Lady Travelers Society series and it has, you guessed it, lady travelers. Readers say the plot takes a while to pick up, but others say this historical romance is both sweet and funny.
The Lady Travelers Guide to Scoundrels and Other Gentlemen by Victoria Alexander is 99c! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price matched. Readers were really into the plot, but mention that it takes a while to really get going. Have you read this one?
It’s Hide Your Wallet time! This is where we talk about upcoming books that release this month, and we do our damnedest not to feel the sting of overdraft fees. Below are the books we’re personally waiting to read, but here are a few others that might be on your TBR pile: Artemis by Andy Weir is out – MOON HEIST! E.L. James returns to her Fifty Shades series with Darker . Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series is still going … Continue reading November’s New Releases→
The ending is a bit rushed, but that happens a lot. And the resolution of the Big Misunderstanding and the complications that are keeping Genevieve and Archie apart is pretty simple, in the end. That said, I enjoyed this SO MUCH. “Learning how to figure your shit out” stories are a particular favorite of mine at this point in my life, and this was a great read.
Oh, boy. May is an expensive month, with twenty books that we’re excited for this month. But, there are some other great books releasing that didn’t make our personal TBR piles: Sarah J. Maas continues her A Court of Thorns and Roses series with A Court of Wings and Ruin . Paula Hawkins is back with Into the Water . The To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy is reaching its conclusion with Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny … Continue reading May’s New Releases→
RECOMMENDED: Fortune Favors the Wickedby Theresa Romain is $1.99 at Amazon! Hopefully, it’ll be priced matched later today! There’s a treasure hunt, a blind hero, and a former courtesan heroine. Talk about catnip! Redheadedgirl gave this an A grade in a Lightning Review:
What I found the most interesting about this book was how the blind hero was written. He hadn’t always been blind – he was struck by a disease while he was in the Navy – and the narrative describes with abundant detail how he moves through a world he can’t see, but he still perceives. And I really appreciated that she doesn’t magically cure him of his blindness. Love doesn’t cure all things, and this is a part of who he is now.
Linden never, ever skimps on the communication aspect, especially when she’s worked a Big Misunderstanding into the plot. And this Big Misunderstanding is pretty freakin’ big – James thought there was time before they needed to get married, Olivia thought James had left her, and the ramifications of not using all of their words are huge. (Mostly this is on James’ head – he’s a dude, so in this scenario he has all the power.) It takes time and communication to sort through the mess before they can even begin to contemplate a HEA.
Ravished by Amanda Quick is $1.99! This is a historical romance with some Beauty and the Beast vibes, which many readers loved. However, other readers felt the heroine’s characterization was a bit inconsistent with constant mood changes. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads. Have you read this one?
