Featured image for Shonda Rhimes to Take on Julia Quinn’s Bridgertons

Late last year, Shonda Rhimes (producer of TV hits like Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder) announced that she’d be taking her talents to Netflix. Well, now we have a better picture of what she’ll be working on for the streaming service. The Hollywood Reporter has released a sneak peek at the eight projects currently lined up. Of course, all of them sound awesome, but most importantly, Rhimes will be adapting The Bridgertons. Yes, those Bridgertons! An untitled … Continue reading Shonda Rhimes to Take on Julia Quinn’s Bridgertons

Summer TV Binge: Killing Eve

Killing Eve poster. A white woman has her arm loosely wrapped around Sandra Oh's neck.

Killing Eve is feminist, ethnically diverse, and LGBTQIA friendly. It features incredible clothes. It also, in the very first episode, includes the extremely violent and horrifying use of a hairpin. It is simultaneously glamorous (those clothes!) and gritty (Russian prison! Dour cubicles!). I watched six of the eight episodes in a single day (I watched the other two the day before). The series killed off my productivity with even more efficiency than it killed off … Continue reading Summer TV Binge: Killing Eve

Stuff You Should Be Watching: The Expanse

The Expanse TV poster. It shows an astronaut in space. It's holding onto the side of some ship and reaching toward the viewer.

When The Expanse first aired on the SyFy Channel (spell it correctly, you reprobates) Mr. Elyse was super excited because he was a fan of the books the show was based on. It took me a few episodes to get there, but this is now one of my favorite TV shows and I’m so excited for Season 3 to drop in April. The Expanse is a richly developed sci-fi world where political tensions have run high. … Continue reading Stuff You Should Be Watching: The Expanse

Poldark Season 3 poster

Note: the recaps this season are written from the British airings, which often have 6-10 minutes that the US airings do not. If you’re reading this and going “Hey, I don’t remember that!” that’s probably why. Previously: Enys is alive, but still imprisoned. Morwenna is facing a marriage crisis. George continues to be a murderous dick. D gave birth to a baby girl. Among the Family Poldark, D describes the current plan to rescue the … Continue reading Poldark 3.04

Poldark Season 3 poster

Note: the recaps this season are written from the British airings, which often have 6-10 minutes that the US airings do not. If you’re reading this and going “Hey, I don’t remember that!” that’s probably why. Previously: Enys is alive! And imprisoned! George is social climbing like whoa. Elizabeth is using opiates to manage her anxiety. This episode uses a lot of short scenes and quick cuts, which makes great visuals but is hell to … Continue reading Poldark 3.03

outlander season 3 with claire and jamie on either sides of a stone

This week Readheadedgirl is off in the UK enjoying cream teas, so I’m on my own for the recap. Outlander 3.04: Of Lost Things

outlander season 3 with claire and jamie on either sides of a stone

The title card is a man (it’s Jamie) carving a wooden snake. In Scotland, 1968, Roger has created a timeline murder board to try and find Jamie in the past – the plan is to establish that Jamie was alive 20 years after Culloden – that way Claire can go back and find him. Bree has been going through prison records, and found a bunch of prisons Jamie was NOT in. Fiona, the granddaughter of … Continue reading Outlander 3.04: Of Lost Things

Outlander 3.03: All Debts Paid

outlander season 3 with claire and jamie on either sides of a stone

Previously: Jamie turned himself into the British, and Claire and Frank are at a détente. The title card is a big, sleepy newfie doggie, and panning up to a birthday cake, with candles. In Boston 1956, Frank cooks a big English breakfast, because Brianna wanted Eggo waffles, and Frank is going to feed the Americaness out of her. Claire has an evening free, and asks Frank if he’d like to see a movie, but he’s … Continue reading Outlander 3.03: All Debts Paid

Outlander 3.02: Surrender

outlander season 3 with claire and jamie on either sides of a stone

Previously: Jamie survived Culloden, and got sent home to Lallybroch. Claire had their daughter and is trying to make a home in Boston. The title splash is a redcoat posting a wanted poster for an outlaw called the “Dunbonnet.” At Lallybroch in 1752, three boys, in the manner of troublemaking boys, find a hidden pistol in the dovecote. They are Rabbie, Wee Jamie, and Fergus (HEY FERGUS). Their bragging is interrupted by a bunch of … Continue reading Outlander 3.02: Surrender

Outlander 3.01: The Battle Joined

outlander season 3 with claire and jamie on either sides of a stone

OUTLANDER IS BACK Y’ALL Previously: A lot. So much. The title shot is a tattered flag with St. Andrew’s Cross, falling into a cart of captured battle standards, pulled by the British, and the camera pans over a field full of dead Highlanders. The Battle of Culloden is over, and the British are going over the fields, killing the wounded and looting their bodies. As this all happens, we find Jamie, who is under the … Continue reading Outlander 3.01: The Battle Joined
