Welcome back to Wednesday Links! How are we all doing? Did anyone take part in the No Kings protest or any Pride festivities this past weekend? Boston had both on the same day. I loved seeing cities and towns, big and small, congregate in support of protecting their communities. I’m not a big fan of the summer and it usually flies by in a bit of a haze, but I’m even more eager to get … Continue reading Links: Video Games, Museums, & More

Happy Wednesday! Check-in time! My birthday was Friday and I caught the vicious cold my partner had earlier that week. Birthday plans were canceled and it was pretty much four days of DayQuil comas and playing Love and Deepspace in bed. In fairness, our plans were already pretty lowkey and they’ve been rescheduled for this weekend. Also, like many of you, my birthday gave me a chance to reflect on how long I’ve been part … Continue reading Links: Dragons, Stationery Supplies, & More

Welcome back to Wednesday Links! How is everyone?! Big news for me, as of Monday, I’m engaged! It’s very exciting. I’m recording the next RT Rewind with Sarah tomorrow and I’m sure I’ll talk all about that. There has been lots of champagne consumption since then and there’s something so particular about a champagne hangover headache, as my now fiancé has learned. I want to thank you all for your exercise suggestions. I know a … Continue reading Links: More Romance Bookstores, Knitting, & More

Welcome back to Wednesday Links! For those in the States, have a safe and relaxing holiday weekend! I will personally be doing nothing, which is just how I like it. Final Fantasy XIV just dropped a new expansion and Power Wash Simulator has a new DLC, so I’ll be going full goblin mode to game. And while I love a fireworks show, I’ve done the big Boston display a couple times and the thought of dealing … Continue reading Links: More Bingo, Cool Dogs, & More

Romance Wanderlust: The Muraka Hotel

Romance Wanderlust - a yellowed and burnt edge map with a compass in the corner, with Romance Wanderlust written across it

It’s here! It’s finally open! Now all I need is $200,000! This month’s Romance Wanderlust takes you to The Maldives, where The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Hotel Muraka Villa is open. The Conrad Maldives includes beach villas and water villas, but The Muraka features an underwater bedroom. As ever, this is not a review nor an endorsement, and in real life if I had this much money I hope I’d use at least some of … Continue reading Romance Wanderlust: The Muraka Hotel

Last Saturday was the first annual Bookstore Romance Day! Did your local bookstore do anything? Did you grab any good books? Featured image for Romance Wanderlust: North Shire Holiday Retreat

YOU. GUYS. STOP THE PRESSES. I have found the Romance Wanderlust of my dreams. As ever, this is not a review nor an endorsement, I was just googling and went “Oh my Goodness I have to go here.” But I have not gone. Yet. North Shire Holiday Retreat is a collection of cottages, caravans, and campgrounds on the moors, near the town of town of Whitby in the UK. All I needed to know about … Continue reading Romance Wanderlust: North Shire Holiday Retreat

Romance Wanderlust: Niagara Falls

Romance Wanderlust - a yellowed and burnt edge map with a compass in the corner, with Romance Wanderlust written across it

In this month’s Romance Wanderlust, we are going to Niagara Falls, New York and Niagara Falls, Ontario. Both towns have been popular honeymoon destinations since the 1800s. They were hit hard by economic recession, but the tourist industry remains as well as, of course, the Falls. As always, this is neither and endorsement nor a review as I’ve never been to the Falls. Help me out, commenters – is this destination worth seeing, or skipping? … Continue reading Romance Wanderlust: Niagara Falls

Romance Wanderlust: ICEHOTEL

Romance Wanderlust - a yellowed and burnt edge map with a compass in the corner, with Romance Wanderlust written across it

I know what you’re thinking. “It’s winter! It’s cold! Carrie is going to take us someplace tropical!” Well NOT SO FAST, Bitches. I’m Googling ice hotels for this month’s Romance Wanderlust, and you’re all Googling with me! Bwah ha ha! But seriously, these places are beautiful. Weird and cold, but beautiful. After careful consideration, I’m focusing on one ice hotel in particular. The not very creatively named ‘ICEHOTEL’’ is located in the village of Jukkasjärvi. … Continue reading Romance Wanderlust: ICEHOTEL

A Short Tour of a Japanese Bookstore

Mango instruction page teaching me how to say Is there a bookstore around here? in Japanese

This is going to be a terribly indulgent post. At the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, I was in Japan with my family. This trip was in part to celebrate my older son’s bar mitzvah and to satisfy our collective enjoyment of really long flights. (As I write this, the 14 hour jet lag is still kicking my ass.) We spent time in Kyoto, Hiroshima, Osaka, and Tokyo, and loved every minute. … Continue reading A Short Tour of a Japanese Bookstore

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.

It’s the day after Christmas! And I figured it was a good time to purge our links of some holiday stuff we’ve seen. If you celebrated the holiday, we hope it was merry and lovely. If you don’t celebrate Christmas, we still hope your day was merry and lovely. … Science has found that alcohol helps you speak a foreign language a bit better. Some of us already had a feeling this was true, but Time has … Continue reading Links: Mostly Christmas Stuff
