I said in the lightning review of The Sport of Baronets that Theresa Romain basically created a series just for me, and the first full-length book just confirms it. She reached into my head and found the references and plot that would make me happiest, and gave those thoughts a beautiful cover and said, “Here!” (Actually she threw out the NetGalley link and ran away and then Elyse and I tussled over it and I … Continue reading A Gentleman’s Game by Theresa Romain →

It’s a big month for new releases here at SBTB, and I know that I had to personally cut down on the list of books I wanted to talk about. It’s also a very front-heavy month, so plan those budgets accordingly. These are just a few of the books we’re excited about for February. What are yours? Which February titles are at the top of your to-buy list?

Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal is $4.99! This is the first book in the Glamourist Histories series and these book are rarely on sale, but throw up some praise for the discount gods because the next three books are also $4.99! This book was also a Nebula nominee and an nominee for the RT Reviewers’ Choice Award in the fantasy category. The book is often compared to Jane Austen, but with fantasy thrown in. Some readers agree with this assessment, while others are affronted by it. For those who have read it, what camp are you in?

Today, we’re unveiling something (sort of) new! Lightning Reviews! For longtime readers of the site, Sarah and Candy would do short reviews of an author’s backlist – Lisa Kleypas, Laura Kinsale, Jennifer Crusie. I discovered these while doing research for a couple Books on Sale posts and thought they were a good way to cover a lot of books in a short amount of time. So we’re dusting them off and bringing sexy back. We … Continue reading Lightning Reviews: Theresa Romain, Kim Harrison, & More! →

RECOMMENDED: Secrets of a Scandalous Heiress by Theresa Roman is $1.99 FOR TODAY ONLY! Redheadedgirl reviewed the book and gave it an A:
I really enjoyed everything about this book. The characters were fascinating and not the standard duke (I don’t have anything against the standard duke, mind, but I like reading about the 99%, too). I loved Joss’ identity issues, and the setting made me so happy. I also really liked that there wasn’t an evil villain in the background twirling his mustache and cackling. This was a delight.

His Mistress by Morning by Elizabeth Boyle is $2.99 right now. This is book 1 of the Marlowe series and has a 3.7-star average on GoodReads. This is a historical with a bit of magic – there’s a magical ring that allows the heroine’s wish to come true for a good portion of the book. Readers who liked it really enjoyed how the heroine grew and evolved during the story.

RECOMMENDED: Season for Surrender by Theresa Romain is $2.99 right now at most if not all vendors. This book was a Sizzling Book Club Pick, and Sarah loved it all kinds of ways. It takes place at a scandalous holiday house party, and features a hero who learns how to be a better person, and a heroine who isn’t taking any crap from anyone. As Sarah wrote when she announced this book as the club selection, “Y’all, they are in the library a great deal, and those are some of the best scenes in the book.” The book is also on sale to promote a Hero v. Hero romance tournament by Kensington, so feel free to vote when it opens February 9th!

There’s been quite a few people asking for non-noble, non-titled heroes, and then Romain gives us a “non-titled, poorish Anglo-Indian” hero who is a little bit snarky and long suffering. This was delightful. Augusta Meredith is the heiress to a beauty products company, and she’s got more than two braincells to rub together, and she uses them to get her company board to do what she wants them to do, all while making them think … Continue reading Secrets of a Scandalous Heiress by Theresa Romain →
